A lovely cottage for a peaceful Bailey Island vacation. We had family staying on Orrâs Island so it was also very convenient to go back and forth over the Cribstone Bridge. The beach is a short walk away and the owner and staff were very responsive and friendly.
My family has stayed at this Bailey Island cottage several times. Itâs well located in a quiet area between two beaches. The property is dated but has all the amenities that we need-washer/dryer, large deck and yard, and ample interior space. Itâs not luxurious, but rather gives a Maineâcampâ experience. The cottage has met our multi-generational (ages 6-73) needs well, and we plan to return.
Nice location. Definitely a cottage feel. Warm upstairs on hot days. Had everything we needed. Seems like for the cost of a week it would have had more like a/c, water purifier for the stinky water, mattress pads but we are all campers who make the best of any situation. Nice to visit once but wouldnât go back.
My husband & our 6mo baby stayed here for 3 weeks and loved every aspect of this Cottage! It was quaint, classic and a great location. It was very neat & clean, and very well maintained! It is stocked with everything you could need on vacation, and the property manager was VERY prompt with supplying us with light bulbs when we ran out. (Which was all we ever needed!).
The yard was a perfect evening retreat to play yard games & have a campfire. During the day you're right down the road from Cedar Beach, and a pretty short walk from the crib stone bridge!
We love vacationing on Bailey Island & so glad to have come across this classic gem! We definitely would rent here again!
Cute home, TLC required and lack of owner response aggravating.
Owner very unresponsive when two serious problems arose. Second floor shower leaked into first floor kitchen. ALOT. We called....no response. TV exploded after we turned it on. We sent messages to owner through honeaway website, still no response. We actually left a day early because we were so frustrated that she never responded. Also, The phone number listed on the welcome sheet given to us upon our arrival was a non working number. Won't stay here again. WE have rented many other properties over the past ten years and have never come across an owner this neglectful. Rent with caution. Bailey Island in itself is adorable.
We have vacationed in Maine for 40 years and came to Bailey Island for the first time. The area is beautiful and the cottage very charming. The property was great bordered by trees. The close proximity to the public beach was great and it was never crowded. Wonderful stay for a family.
We spent 10 lovely days at this property in September, with cool breezes and sunny days. The house is classic cabin - exposed beams and old paneling , screened in porch. The neighborhood is wonderful, the big yard with the fabulous fire pit is wonderful, and we had a great time. I hope to return next year.
Rough and rustic but not in a good way. You could see daylight thru the walls. The water smelled like sulfur gas. It was overwhelming! Every morning I had to clean off the counters of mouse droppings. Not one door open properly. You had to throw your hip into it. The bedding and towels were a mish mash of yard sale finds. Not one face towel in the place. I could never recommend this place. It needs a lot of work.
Pros: Proximity to Cedar Beach, firepit, bbq grill.
Cons: The water is drawn from a well and smells like sulfur / rotten eggs. It is unpleasant to shower in and we used bottled water for drinking. Wish we were made aware of that. The property manager was unresponsive leading up to the trip when I had questions. While cute, the house could have been a little more comfortable.
This is the quintessential Maine cottage or camp. No frills-just the basics. If you want spa-like conditions, this isnât the place. However, if you can laugh at yourself, youâll enjoy the quirkiness of Juniper Cottage. This is the second time our family has stayed here, and weâve enjoyed the central location for exploring Harpswell and beyond as well as the lack of crowds. It has met all our needs.
We enjoyed our week so much. Private and quiet setting. Access to cedar beach is a treat for swimming and beach combing. Caught a sunrise and a few sunsets. Owners very responsive to a minor issue that was caused by Mother Nature. Will definitely rent here again!
Bailey Island is beautiful and the cottage is cute and clean. BUT when we arrived, the cottage was not locked. We could not find the well-hidden UNLABELED binder about the cottage -- including the wifi password -- for 2 FULL DAYS. It turned out to be buried beneath books in a stack in a small table. We had no cell coverage from the cottage. WE TRIED FOR 2 DAYS TO REACH MANAGEMENT AND COULD NOT. NO RESPONSE at all from management until Monday. There are small seams in the cottage (kind of like camping-style) so if you have lights on in the house at night, welcome mosquitos and moths. Didn't sit well with my kids at all. No microwave -- although management brought one over by Monday night when they finally. And there was a HUGE sign to beware of using the washing machine as it could ruin clothes. Did we have a good time despite? Yes. Was the cottage cute and nicely decorated? Yes. Would I rent this property again? No.
My family and I had a lovely time staying at this beautiful summer cottage on Bailey Island. The house was clean and had all of the amenities we needed for a week of rest and relaxation. We really enjoyed the larger backyard with fire pit, plenty of room for our bocce games, and great stargazing! You could even hear the ocean waves crash on the rocks at night. The location was great, a short walk to Cedar Beach and a walk/bike ride away from Mackeral Cove and the Giant's Steps. I would definitely stay at this property again and would highly recommend it if you are looking for a quintessentially "Maine" getaway!
My family and I had a wonderful, relaxing time at the Juniper house. We hiked and spent time at the really great sandy beach. The yard is beautiful and Island is a great place to explore. I would love to go back and recommend this as a vacation spot.
The charming cottage had all the amenities that our family needed. We were a few minutes from the gorgeous Cedar Beach with views of the Cribstone Bridge. The cottage grounds were large and lovely with enough space to host barbecues and let the dog explore. The owner and property manager were extremely responsive to our needs and very gracious. We will definitely return to the quaint island for another stay.
This spot was everything we expected and more and perfectly managed! Great outside spaces with a long lawn in front and fire pit where we roasted "Smores" and sang campfire songs. Walking distance to a beach / ocean. Only thing I would say is that I would add sturdier bedside reading lamps in the main bedroom; I missed a CD player. Would LOVE to return.
We loved the water view but the property needed updating. The sump pump was being worked on for two days and it was a very noisy repair that made it hard for the kids to nap. The kitchen was lacking most utensils and we had to borrow a can opener and grill tools from another unit. We were told the property was ours for the week but one day 3 adults and 9 children arrived and took over the beach. We told them it was a private beach but they didn't leave and then someone came to get them in a golf cart which they drove across the lawn! The beds were comfortable but one of the bathrooms was a dump. Over all everyone had a nice time and the property attendant David did his best to meet our needs!
This rental was great for my family of four. We had all of the comforts of home and reasonable driving distance to everything we wanted to see. All of the necessities were provided for us including a washer and dryer! It was very close to Cedar Beach and so peaceful and quiet.
Great place to stay. We were welcomed with beautiful freshly cut and arranged flowers in the rooms. Wood supplied free of charge for the evening fire pit . Fresh breezes from the sea and a wonderful place to relax.
The cottage is just as pictured and described. (There was even radish and kale in season to add to our evening salad!) We were two families with school age boys and a small dog. There was enough room for everyone to relax and spend the evenings. We used this location as a home base between Booth Bay and Portland. It was perfect!

End of Summer Getaway
We rented this warm and lovely summer home for the last week in August and had a relaxing and thoroughly enjoyable stay. The cottage was extremely clean and laid out with every possible amenity. We arrived to find a fridge stocked with the necessities, plenty of towels, kitchenware and extra blankets, and vases filled with freshly cut flowers. Such a nice welcome! The cottage was a just a short walk to a private beach that was the perfect spot to relax with a good book and watch the kids and dogs play in the sand and water. The end of the day we walked down to the Morris' lobster house for freshly caught lobster and homemade blueberry martinis. Eeryone we dealt with was very helpful and friendly as well. Highly recommended!

Beautiful manicured gardens. In the mood for a salad? Pick it fresh from your own vegetable garden. Lots of amenities for all ages, great for families. The house is cozy but free-flowing so you will never get cabin fever. Near Freeport discount stores. We are 3 minutes walk from a sandy beach.
