Our family of 5 (with teenagers) had a wonderful stay. The property was exactly as expected from the photos and description - the home, mountain setting and Watauga Lake were all spectacular! The 3 bedrooms are each on a separate floor, so fairly private if needed. Tom responded quickly and completely to all of our inquiries.
We're boaters so the slip was perfect. There is a walk to the water as noted in the listing; the return walk is uphill & might be a little strenuous for some, but can be driven if really needed. Small boats can be launched right there, although trailering in the neighborhood would be tricky due to inclines and limited space, so we launched & parked the trailer at nearby Cove Ridge marina. Most importantly, the lake is clean, warm, not crowded and gorgeous. The kids LOVED the nearby rope swing.
The location is remote, which was great for us. We saw only occasional neighbors driving through and at the slips, but it was very quiet other than nature’s sounds and those of the indoor and outdoor fountains/waterfalls. Note that other than very basic provisions, a real grocery selection is 30+ minutes away in Elizabethton or Mountain City - remember to include charcoal if grilling at the house, which we did most nights. There are only a couple good restaurants within 20 minutes also; Captain’s Table has great views of the lake, and La Cucina toward Mtn City was charming and delicious (cash only, BYO wine, and reservations usually necessary). Shirley’s looked interesting also but didn’t get a chance to try it.
Overall excellent experience - highly recommended!
So great that you enjoyed your stay. Our favorite place on earth. Beautiful, quaint and relaxing just like we like it :)
Awesome cabin, amazing host, and spectacular views!
This cabin is awesome! Tom was an amazing host, the views are spectacular and the lake is so fun!! Driveway was a bit difficult but once we figured it out we had no problems.
Jacquie & Yakov - So glad you enjoyed our home and the lake. Thank you for the kind words. RE the driveway, we just had some bad storms that washed away the bottom section of the driveway and have new stone arriving in early August. That will be put done and the driveway graded. We look forward to having you back.
A true paradise to relax and rejuvenate (and marvel at!), even for the little ones!!
From the moment you walk into this peaceful paradise, you see all the care and attention to detail that went into creating and maintaining this home... What an impressive work of art - inside is like living amongst the trees in the forest, literally with trunks winding up through the ceiling, complete with a trickling pond inside! Everything was prepared and stocked with all the amenities, so we just unloaded our luggage and moved right in! We were with a 2-yr old and twin 6-yr olds, and the gates to the stairways and all the fun nooks made it such a safe and fun house to be in! The owners really thought of everything- comfort, safety and beauty when designing the house! Within an hour we were able to get to the nearby ski resorts, Tweetsie Train station, all that we needed. There’s such a peace and quiet to the whole area, we were able to recharge and rejuvenate our souls there- even with the chatter of the little ones. This place is not to be missed!! Wished we were back there already~ We hope to be back again, esp so that we can finally see some snowfall next time around!
Mai & family. We are so happy that you were able to relax & rejuvenate at Whispering Pines. Thank you for being great guests and taking such good care of our home. See you next time.
A beautiful mountain getaway
This was a great getaway for all three of our families! The house was perfect and there was a lot of attention to detail. It is a great place for younger and older children alike. We loved spending time on the beautiful porch and by the fire pit in the evenings. The views are beautiful and there were lots of outdoor activities to take advantage of. It would be an amazing place to stay at in the summer and we plan to come back.
Truly appreciate your comments Brittney. We take a lot of pride in Whispering Pines and constantly invest in improvements to make it great for our guests every time they stay. See you in the summer.
