Elderflower Retreat: a modern ranch overlooking the valley with view of Taliesin
This two-story modern ranch was designed by Chicago-based Wheeler Kearns Architects. Guests can enjoy a hike down the driveway to the creek, with a view of Frank Lloyd Wrightâs Taliesin, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Nearby, take in an outdoor show at the American Players Theater.
This unique property is owned by Savanna Institute, a nonprofit laying the groundwork for widespread agroforestry in the Midwest. On the farm, we research and demonstrate silvopasture and managed grazing practices.
Enjoy a spacious great room with floor-to-ceiling windows and sliding glass doors opens to a garden patio with plenty of lawn space and stunning views for indoor-outdoor gatherings and retreats. Elderflower Retreat is home to a "cook's kitchen" where you can find everything you need to put on a delicious dinner for family and friends.
This special gathering space is located in the gorgeous Driftless Region, with it's unique hills and vales which are home to many small family farms, high-quality produce and world-renown cheeses.
The cook's kitchen has a large island and gas stove ideal for prepping and serving large spreads. Dining space seats 12 people indoors and outdoors for family dinners, or small groups.

We are a team of 50 spread out throughout the Midwest region with concentrations in Spring Green and Madison, WI and Champaign Urbana, IL. We are passionate about trees, perennials, farming, local foods, grazing animals and supporting our local communities.
Elderflower Retreat at Hillside Pastures is a gorgeous farm with sweeping views, grazing cattle in silvopasture, oak savannas, creeks and more. We fell in love the with natural beauty of the landscape and want to share it with others. We've hosted poetry readings, perennial dinners with guest chefs, artist in residences and more.
