Lexington Camp – A Warm, Welcoming Cabin in the Heart of Pine Creek Valley
Lexington Camp blends historic character with modern comfort in a way that reflects the spirit of the Pine Creek Valley. The original portion of the cabin, built in 1901, now serves as the kitchen and dining area and features a beautifully refinished ceiling that exposes the original hand‑cut rafters. In the early 1990s, the cabin was expanded to over 2,000 square feet, creating a spacious layout with generous living areas where guests can unwind after a full day of exploring the gorge.
The cabin offers a large, comfortable living room, a fully equipped kitchen with two full‑size refrigerators, a 55” Smart TV with Roku, high‑speed fiber‑optic internet, and a modern central heating and air‑conditioning system. Upstairs, a wide bunkhouse‑style sleeping area provides multiple beds, perfect for up to 8 guests.
The Pine Creek Rail Trail—named Pennsylvania’s 2026 Trail of the Year—approximately ¾ mile from the cabin at the Rattlesnake Rock Access, gives guests effortless access to one of the most scenic biking, hiking, fishing, and kayaking corridors in the state, including the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon.
Location
The Lexington Camp sits in the heart of Pine Creek Valley, close to the central–southern section of the Pine Creek Rail Trail and surrounded by some of Pennsylvania’s most iconic outdoor destinations. The Blackwell area provides easy access to trailheads, fishing spots, scenic overlooks, and small town charm.
Wildlife
The area around Lexington Camp has a rich and lively wildlife presence. Deer and wild turkeys may wander through the property as part of their daily routines, and smaller wildlife—squirrels, chipmunks, and backyard birds—are common around the trees and yard. Black bears move through this part of the valley, and foxes, raccoons, and opossums occasionally cross the woods and open spaces.
Along Pine Creek, bald eagles and ospreys may be seen gliding overhead or perched in the trees that line the water. Great blue herons, kingfishers, and a variety of songbirds add to the sense of being surrounded by nature, especially in the early morning and late afternoon.
In the evenings, guests may hear coyotes calling from the ridges and Whip‑poor‑wills echoing from the treeline, adding to the valley’s quiet nighttime rhythm. Timber rattlesnakes are part of the broader ecosystem and generally keep to themselves when given space.
These moments of wildlife activity bring a gentle calm to the valley.

It was perfect for us and our pups! Would definitely book again if needed! Only critique would be vacuuming under the beds, as there was some bugs/dead bugs, and the fire pit area could use a little love. But overall it was very nice and we felt right at home.

Very Relaxing
We enjoyed our stay very much. We visited the PA Grandcanyon. Kayaked on a nearby lake and e biked along the trail. The property is calm and relaxing. We saw a rattlesnake crossing the road just a short walk from the cabin and also visited rattlesnake rock. Perfect distance from Wellsboro which is a beautiful town.

Great location!
This is a great location for biking on the rail trail. Its very well kept. It was way bigger than we needed for the 2 of us. We did some hiking & biking in the area. Drove into slate run for dinner at manor one night. And had a camp fire. Even had a bear walk thru the yard while we were sitting by the fire.

Second time renting
This was the second time my family rented this cabin. It felt like we were returning home. The cabin is kept very clean and all amenities that you can think of are taken care of by the owner. Deb was very easy to get in touch with since the internet was also available. We enjoy coming here due to the easy access to the bike trail and Pine Creek. A visit from the local bear was an added bonus. We enjoyed the view from inside the spacious cabin upon his arrival.

Perfect Weekend Getaway!
Our family was looking for a quick weekend getaway near the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon. This property certainly met our needs! It is located near Blackwell in a very backwoods area that is quiet and in the midst of nature! Per the property description, it is very close to the Pine Creek Trail and the water. This property is a wonderful camp, with all the amenities one would need, and more! Plenty of comfortable beds, a huge dining table, a large living space, and fully equipped kitchen with almost anything one would need. We only interacted with the property manager remotely, but she was very accommodating and responsive, with wonderful communication.
Our family did a loop to explore the region. From the camp, we drove to Colton Point SP to hike, then to Wellsboro for lunch and to see the history downtown, and back towards Leonard Harrison SP for the best Pine Creek Gorge view, then back to the cabin. Keep in mind there are limited fuel stations in the mountains here, so be sure to be gassed up! The closest one to the cabin seems to be the one in Slate Run around 11 miles from the property.
A few things to note. The water from the tap comes out brown. Although I am sure it is safe, I would suggest bringing jugs or bottles of water for drinking. I am glad we did, plus we brought a purifier pitcher. There is internet available. It is not all that great (which is generally fine for people looking for a cabin getaway) but if you are expecting to do some work-from-home during the getaway that requires some heavier data transfer rates, it might be tough. I would also suggest writing down or screenshotting messages from the property manager, as you likely will not have phone service at the property.

Lexington Camp
Lexington Camp was a great place for our family. The highlight from our first day was being greeted by a black bear across the road. He made a second appearance the next day as well. The cabin was spotlessly clean. It is a rustic hunting cabin and reminded me of my Dad’s hunting cabin he had when I was young. We appreciated the fire pit and the large back yard. Beds were comfortable. We loved how close we were to the Rail Trail. It is a great place to bring our bikes and kayaks. We rented tubes for tubing down the Pine Creek from Miller’s Store in Blackwell. Debra was a great host and super responsive to our questions. Overall, we had a great experience!
