Cooler weather is a great weather for hiking through the woods! Come for a visit!

SPECIAL DISCOUNT for "long weekend" or longer stays! We have a two-night minimum, but If you stay a third night, we can discount $300 off the total. If you stay a fourth night, we can discount $500. (This must be done manually, so message me your dates, and I can send a custom price for you to accept.)

Patten's Landing is a five-bedroom log home that sleeps 10 (12, if a couple of people sleep on the large sectional sofa) on almost 100 acres of forested land surrounded by the Meramec River and its tributaries, the Huzzah and Courtois Creeks. Built in 1942, the home has been lovingly updated over the last several years, with a fully-furnished modern kitchen, flagstone patio with firepit, and screened porch to watch the birds, butterflies, and occasional deer or wild turkey wander by. Enjoy the peace and quiet as you relax, walk through the woods, or go splash in the river! In the summer, enjoy the wildflower walkways which attract tons of butterflies! We have a swing set and outdoor games for the kids as well, and just added a large TV over the mantel with streaming services, and an electric fireplace insert that can be used year round. (NOTE: While we are mostly surrounded by streams, it is a 5-10 minute walk from the cabin downhill on a wooded path to reach the private beach area, as the cabin sits on a bluff.)

Patten's Landing is also a magical location for a small wedding, holiday celebration, family reunion, or other event! Catering, decor, and set-up can be arranged.

The property is also fantastic in the fall, when the colors change. There are lots of hiking trails in the vicinity, as well as the paths on the property. And it's magical in the winter with snow! (see on YouTube: https://youtu.be/zTn6d8N-pfI)

In warmer weather, there are several outfitters nearby who can provide you with a canoe, raft, or kayak and drive you to a choice of locations to put into the river for a fun adventure! There are also lots of local attractions to see: Onondaga Cave, Maramec Spring, and more! See more information at www.pattenslanding.com.

No camp fires or any other type of open fires are allowed. There is a firepit built into the patio that may be used, and a propane Blackstone on patio
No weapons (pistols, rifles, assault-type weapons, bow-hunting equipment, explosives) are allowed. Small bb guns or bow/arrow sets for fun are ok.
Motorized small vehicles are allowed, but must stay on roads/paths to avoid damaging the area.

The cabin was nice and the property beautiful, but what really stands out is the small thoughtful things the owners leave for their guests. They left drinks and snacks as well as having stocks of first aid, meds, peppermint’s. Only bummer was getting to see a beautiful wildflower path without any blooming wildflowers. We will remedy this next year for our spring trip returning. Thank you for a wonderful experience.

River house weekend with friends

This was one of our top VRBO stays! We had a wonderful long weekend with friends. The house is a short walk to the river (pretty easy) with nice beach and river access. The house had anything and everything you could possibly need - and if you can’t find something, there’s list of it all and where to find it! You can tell the love the owners put into this property. We’ll definitely be back! Lovely stay!!!

Fantastic getaway spot

We had a wonderful long weekend tucked away in this completely decked out cabin. It has everything we needed and more. Everything was well maintained and the house was well stocked with towels, tp, snacks, drinks, cooking supplies, games, and outdoor activity items. We would definately come back again.

River Paradise

The property was great as advertised. We enjoyed spending all day at the river and then heading back to grill up dinner. We topped off the evenings with a fire for smores. The Pattens thought of everything from information needed, supplies you wanted, and the space to enjoy it all. Owners have gone above and beyond in making this rental very special trip for our fathers day.

Perfect Family Get-Away

The cabin and the grounds were perfect for our annual family Thanksgiving trip. Hands-down, definitely the best stay we've had so far. The cabin, interesting with it's history, has been beautifully and functionally updated. Cooked dinner and two breakfasts on the outdoor Blackstone griddle (nice touch!). The fire pit and s'mores were wonderful. Plenty of room for everyone. And, the property and river were so unique. What a great place. Super hosts (thanks Donna!).

Perfect Getaway

This was such a cool property that allowed privacy and comfort. The cabin was beautiful and came fully stocked with snacks, extra hygiene supplies, towels, and all that you would need for a weekend on the river. For a group of 12 guests everyone had plenty of room for sleeping as well as for relaxing. I would highly recommend this property to anyone looking in this area. The hosts were easy to work with and so helpful with anything that was needed. Thank you again!!

The Bells

We were very impressed with all of the extras, like almost fully stocked kitchen to all the toys, games etc! Everyone enjoyed there stay! River access was a little tough but we got thru it. One thing we would really enjoy for future stays would be access to huzzah creek , gravel bars. It was very neat to be on the property reminiscing and telling stories! Lots of stories! Would definitely stay again. Would like to try fall sometime

Relaxing with nature.

The cabin was exactly as described...remote, clean and big. The screened porch was nice but we sat outside by the firepit most of the time, no mosquitos! We watched the yellow finches and multiple hummingbirds fly around. The walk to the beach was shaded and we loved looking for river rocks. Everyone we met on the river were friendly. I enjoy cooking our meals in the large kitchen with new oven and two refrigerators. But the nights were the best, outside around the fire, just visiting with my kids. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Great secluded cabin!

Great secluded property. The cabin is very well stocked with everything you could need. Beds are comfortable. The second fridge in the kitchen is stocked with drinks and snacks provided by the host. Great screened in porch and beach/river access. Host responds quickly if needed. There was a storm that knocked out the power while we were there but we were comfortable. There is a land line phone which helped greatly. The cabin is awesome and beautifully restored. We plan to return in the future!

We had such a fantastic time at Patten’s Landing! This place is truly a hidden gem—a charming and well-kept rustic cabin that feels just like home. The Pattens have done such a wonderful job creating the perfect getaway spot. With a fully equipped kitchen to cook all our meals and laundry facilities, we had everything we needed. The extra fridge with drinks and snacks was such a nice touch and much appreciated. The outdoor patio right off the kitchen was perfect for a fire with smores and plenty of comfortable outdoor furniture. The enclosed porch was a hit with the kids, packed with toys and outdoor gear for us to enjoy! The cabin is cozy yet spacious, making it ideal for our group of 7. Eventhough it rained off and on during our stay, there was still plenty of space and activities to keep the kids entertained. We loved browsing through the books and neat pictures around the cabin. The kids had a blast running around the big yard and exploring the beautiful wildflower paths. A short walk down a wooded path leads you to a large private rock beach right along the Meramac River. The kids found many neat rocks and had so much fun catching minows. It was the perfect spot to cool off in the water or just sit back and enjoy the peaceful river. We can’t wait to come back!

They provide everything you need to have a great nature adventure (with all the comforts of home)! Just bring your groceries, some comfy clothes, and a big smile!

Pourquoi avoir choisi cet hébergement ?

C.M. “Pat” Patten (Bill's grandfather) acquired land and began construction of a six-bedroom house in 1942. The house was intended to provide entertainment for clients with fishing ‘float’ trips on the Meramec River and its tributaries, the Huzzah and Courtois Creeks.

In the late 1940s, one of the bedrooms was converted to a bathroom as indoor plumbing was added. Electrification of this part of Crawford County took place in the early 1950s and the electric generator was no longer needed.

In the 1960s, the U.S. Corps of Engineers began a serious effort at land acquisition (eminent domain) and by the early 1970s, H.D. “Pat” Patten (Bill's father) joined a lawsuit against the Corps of Engineers to halt construction of the Meramec Dam. In 1978, a referendum vote, in the twelve counties of the Meramec River watershed, revealed that voters preferred a free-flowing Meramec River. In 1981, the Dam project was de-authorized. In the mid 1980s, a first remodel was completed by Steve Patten (Bill's brother).

By 2013, the 70-year-old log house was showing its age. Bill and Donna began a reconstruction effort, although slowed by the flood of April 2017, and have restored the cabin to better than its World War II functionality. Now the cabin’s interior has never been in better condition.
