Whether looking to relax or outdoor activities for the entire family, this is an amazing property to visit for a long weekend! 10/10 recommended and would love to come back in the future!
We had the best time at the cabin! It was a beautiful cabin with all the amenities you would need. The outdoor setting and firepit was gorgeous and the view of the open field was so serene. The trek down to the river bank was fine but going back up was challenging. Having some sort of offroad atv would have been perfect for the road to the river, and id love to go again with one. The host was very responsive and helpful. Couldn't have had a better time.
Property was very clean, host was wonderful, and the location was perfect. We greatly enjoyed the deck overlooking the valley, and having coffee out there each morning to the sounds of wild Turkey, squirrel, hawks and more. Would definitely stay again.
We loved our stay at Whippoorwill Cabin! Very quiet area with pretty views to enjoy from the back deck. The cabin was clean and well kept. Our host, Emily, was responsive and very helpful. Would definitely recommend for anyone looking for a nice getaway. We hope to stay again in the future.
Secluded cabin, with an easy drive for any vehicle. Communication with the host was easy and responsive. Cabin had wifi which was awesome. The back deck is amazing. A gate to keep kids and dogs from wandering. The bed swing was so relaxing. Nice fire pit set up and plenty of wood. Gas grill was convenient. The road down to the river access was not to terrible but definitely need AWD or 4x4 to get up and down. It would be a long walk and probably very rough going back up. Well stocked kitchen and plenty of extra supplies if needed. Spices and condiments if you needed them in a pinch. Had dog bowls and blankets. Movies. Books. My only complaint was mice droppings. But you will have that in a cabin this secluded. We just wiped things down and washed any dishes we wanted to use before hand. Would suggest that the owners do a walk through the day before someone comes to stay just to make sure everything is in order. The pictures are outdated on the listing. They have a new couch and added the bed swing to the porch and the gate on the deck. No view of the river from the cabin, firepit or deck.
Just what my doctor ordered, wished we could stay longer, definatelly going next fall, so clean ,im a tree lover, rock collector I'm a 40 year business farmer row crop, livestock, loved the different scenery. Loved fireplace!đ
The private river access was great. We drove our jeep down to the private river access every day: walked the river, fished, or just relaxed. The cabin is nice and private, you canât see any neighbors. We really liked this location and would visit again if we come back to the area.
We wanted a weekday flat on the Meramec river so we stayed at the Wippoorwill cabin. This is my second stay. The location is close to everything you need yet remote. We didn't see anybody. Everything about the cabin is excellent. We hope to get back soon.
Emily was a wonderful hostess as she made sure we had everything we needed before and after we arrived. Her property is in an ideal location with short drives to Meramec Springs, Cuba, Steelville, etc. And the views from the back of her place during the sunset are breathtaking. We would certainly like to come back to visit!
Booked this cabin for a getaway weekend with my boyfriend. This cabin was perfect. Fireplace in the living room to sit in front of, a great view from the deck to sit and drink coffee overlooking the river. Close to good hiking. Would definitely come back :)
Cabin is super cute! Back deck was our favorite place. Nice and private. Beautiful view, giant fire pit. As others mentioned, need 4wd to go down to river but how nice it was to have a private gravel bar area to relax at! Very pet friendly - our pups loved it! Emily was super responsive to my pre-arrival questions. Would definitely recommend!
My family enjoyed our stay. The cabin was very clean and had a very well stocked kitchen. Loved the covered deck. We went to the river and had a wonderful time. Very peaceful and clean. I definitely recommend this place. Wish I had it one for myself, we would be there all the time đ
We enjoyed our stay at the Whippoorwill Cabin on the Upper Meramec River. Our stay was very quiet and peaceful. The rock gravel bar access was really nice to hang out on and enjoy the day. The inside had everything we needed to have an enjoyable stay.
We hike quite a bit so the walk up and down the rock gravel road to the river access was acceptable. I can see where it could be a challenge for some. The back deck is very relaxing.
Emilyâs place was very clean and updated. It was easy to locate. The views and fire pit were amazing! The hike to the river is a bit farther than I thought and steep but it was extremely secluded and the water areas were great for swimming. The porches made it great to hang out outside even in the rain or the heat. We really enjoyed our stay! The cabin had everything we needed and more.
A very awesome property and private. The cabin is set up nice with plenty of room, the back deck view is beautiful. Private road to the gravel bar is something I wish we utilized more. Its only about 20 min from Steelville and 30 min from major floating outfitters, and some that are smaller and closer but offer less river floats. The owner was very prompt with communication and made everything very welcoming and easy. We will be going back for sure!
This place was absolutely perfect for us! We love floating but also love peace and quiet. The cabin was clean, beds amazingly comfortable, gorgeous scenery and floating options down the road. The host had fast communication with thorough instructions. Thank you for sharing your place with us. It was a wonderful weekend. Will definitely be staying here again!
A 5 star cabin with everything a cabin getaway needs
I was impressed with how clean it was and how the owner checked in to see how we were doing. Five minutes away from The Maramac River, but still close enough to town and restaurants. So many things were provided for cooking. No need to bring a spice rack with you. Itâs mostly here.
My mom, cousin, aunt, friend, dog, and I piled in for a delightful weekend of yummy food, sitting by the river, and sitting on the porch. The directions were super helpful and the cabin was very well equipped. My dog was so so happy to be a country pooch for a weekend, roaming all over and chasing sticks and fish in the river. Be advised that the walk down to the river is no joke (more accurately, the walk back UP is no joke), but our small 4WD SUVs did just fine on the mostly dry gravel. Bring serious tick prevention, it is the woods after all. I would definitely stay here again!
Quiet, clean, and very comfortable. Of Course thereâs no Wi-Fi. However, there are plenty of videos to choose from and our AT&T service was adequate enough to stay in communication. It is recommended that you have four-wheel-drive for the short drive to the river. Once at the river, itâs beautiful and the fishing is decent. Iâm sure weâll visit again
Itâs a good property to be near fishing but there arenât any interesting towns nearby that are exciting to visit. Bring supplies with you as far as food and notions. Cabin has paper supplies to meet needs and a fire pit with firewood as well as a wood stove. Beds and kitchenware are basic. I guess thatâs really what the property is for is a fishing cabin! No hiking trails per se. We enjoyed just getting away from the city for a couple days and are glad our dogs were welcome. Owner seems very nice.
I hope I can return to the Whippoorwill Cabin soon. The cabin is extremely nice. The kitchen is well equipped with a full size fridge, nice stove and microwave, everything you need. The AC worked great and internet was flawless. A big porch in front and out back are really nice especially the view off the back. There is also a very nice lower level that I didn't need as it was just myself and a dog. There is a road out back that goes to the river about 3/10th mile. You probably need a 4wheeler to drive this and the walk is less than 10 minutes. I came in from St. Louis so the location is a little over an hour or about 15 minutes from Cuba MO. Steelville and St. James aren't much further. We drove over to Maramec Springs Trout park a couple times to just walk around and it is about 15 minutes away and highly recommended. I feel this stretch of the upper Meremec is the best as for as access, river quality, fishing and recreation. That's the Trout park to Scott's Ford access about 9 miles. If the dog and I hadn't gone to the trout park a couple times I wouldn't have see another person for 3 days, so very private yet close if you need anything. Also, Emily, the host is amazing.
The house and location were fine but was disappointed with things such as Wi-Fi, shower soap, and water not being on when we arrived. There is no cell phone service so without Wi-Fi, you are truly disconnected from the outside world. I think the cost should be 1/3 of what I paid. If youâre looking for good river access and no distractions, this is your spot. The cabin comfortably sleeps 3 so it was rough having 4 grown men trying to shower and get ready in the morning. The upstairs shower was smaller than the average RV shower. Thereâs no privacy whatsoever, one main room upstairs with bed, kitchen, disgusting futon with stains and a small coffee table. basement with 2 beds. Please get new sheets for the futon, there are bleach stains and who knows what else all over it.
