Cozy, Comfortable authentic adobe house with Mountain Views in Big Bend Country!
Cozy, comfortable authentic adobe house perfect for up to 2 couples and a child or 2 with an extra fold out couch. Nice front porch for lounging or private back yard with grilling area and high deck with beautiful Mountain Views! House has large eat in kitchen and living room with tv and internet. This location is close to the entrance to Big Bend National Park in the nice, little town of Marathon!
The pros are:1) Itâs cool and relaxing; 2) Shower works great; 3) It seems to be a very private VRBO. The cons: 1) Several broken windows; 2) Found flying ants and wasps inside when we arrived; 3) No lighting in one of the bedrooms. Took a light bulb from one of the two lamps in the living room to place in the bedroom. Refrigerator worked fine but was so unlevel, it was tough to get the door closed/open. It could possibly be dangerous for families with small children. Fire ants covered the entire yard.Since there was a music festival, there werenât any different options in Marathon so we opted to try and make it work. In fairness to the property manager, we didn't try to make contact. Since there were cracked windows, there wasnât much they could do regarding the flying insects that kept getting inside the property.
This place was perfect for our visit to Big Bend. It was clean, comfortable and well apportioned. Driving into the neighborhood, I initially felt some concerns because of the myriad properties close by with rundown homes and littered yards. We never felt unsafe, it just catches you off guard at first if you are from the suburbs of a big city. Itâs also worth highlighting. that there are lots of deer that wander through the property, which we found really fun!
The property owner was great to work with, and everything about the property itself was as advertised. I loved how they had remodeled the place, but retained some features and styles that were true to the old Southwest.
The Casita is very nicely appointed and comfortable. Plenty of room, very tastefully and âwestern-lyâ decorated. Fully equipped kitchen and a complete set of bath and bedroom amenities. (Please note that the broiler is in the drawer at the bottom of the range. Took us forever to figure that outâŠ)Since it was December we very much appreciated the gas-fired heaters in every room. And the crowâs nest and fire pit in the back yard are a real treat. (One suggestion: Always take your shoes off before going back into the house. This is West Texas, home of loads of stickers and burrs and you donât want to track them inside. Your feet will thank you.)We walked Marathon, drove to the smallest Buc-Eeâs in the world (look it upâŠ) and spent two days in Big Bend National Park (a one-hour drive), including an across the border walk into Mexico. We were also very fortunate that the weather cleared on the night we drove to the McDonald Observatory for the Star Party (an hour in the other direction), stopping to check out Fort Davis and its National Historic Site on the way.All in all we had a wonderful time and definitely recommend The Casita if youâre planning a trip to this lovely area of Texas.
