Avoid the mob of tourists
We had a great time for 5 nights in this sizeable condo off the beaten path. It's great advantage is that it is south of the all-inclusives that attract hordes of people during the Christmas break. The pool and beach never felt crowded, we secured beach chairs and tiki umbrellas at either the pool or beach at any time of day. The rooftop deck, which spans the building and faces both the lagoon and the ocean, was awesome. There is shade up there, so we went up for morning coffee and afternoon drinks every day. My daughter had her own balcony facing the lagoon and hung out there constantly. Air-conditioners and appliances were in perfect working order. Communication with the host was very fast, like within 15 minutes using the VRBO app.
Is the building getting a little old? Sure. The elevator was out once or twice, but not for long. Was the furniture well-used? Sure. But we weren't expecting the Ritz Carlton. And there are 3 local restaurants (very non-touristy) and a convenience store that we frequented a very short walk down the street.
It's a also great time to learn how to use the bus. Walk out to the street, wait for any bus, jump on and hand the guy $1 per person. Yell when you want to get off. We rolled up town to both grocery stores, the shopping center, and a couple of (crowded) tourist spots. Then we went back to our comfortable, uncrowded condo to enjoy the sunrises on the beach, and the sunsets on the roof deck.
The only amenities we missed, and also couldn't find while out shopping, were ice cube trays (we used the shot glasses for ice) and a couple cheap beach chairs and maybe an umbrella (no big deal since we got chaise chairs every day anyway).
We had a perfect, quick beach trip at this awesome low-key property, without the Las Vegas-like humanity you get on the main Cancun drag. We would definitely stay here again.
