South of Grand Carriage House- minutes from downtown Des Moines
Large, airy 2 bedroom apartment Carriage House is above a garage in a quiet, residential area. It's close to Drake University and Downtown Des Moines. There is a kitchen, large living area and pool table/ping pong for a fun quiet space to gather.
The carriage house was a pleasant place to stay for three of us. We especially enjoyed the row of windows all along the back of the house looking out over a beautiful woodland hill -- like being in a tree house. One note -- the wifi is not great.
We stayed in the carriage house for 3 nights while in town for a baseball tournament. For our family this property was cheaper than getting an extended stay hotel w kitchenette. The only drawback was no laundry but it was so nice to have a quiet night of sleep as opposed to staying a team hotel w kids running up and down constantly. My favorite part of the house is the living room area which feels as though you are in a tree house. Full of windows with treetops and visiting birds. This would probably not be a good choice for crawling babies as there is some chippy old paint, heat registers, and a steep staircase. Mattresses are VERY firm so if you prefer a soft bed you may not sleep well here. Very quick and easy access to 235.
This was our second stay at this property. Itâs reliably clean and comfortable, very convenient for our purposes, and the hosts are responsive and welcoming.
The property was perfect for what we needed. We were in town for an athletic tournament and the kitchen allowed us to cook for our group. All of the basic cooking utensils and pots/pans were available. The host was responsive to requests and incredibly friendly. Would definitely recommend
We came into town with our girls for a swim meet and enjoyed the carriage house. Multiple fun activities with the pool/ping pong table and dart board. Spacious family room area was good for us, and beds were comfortable.
Our stay at the Carriage House was lovely. It was comfortable and clean and the neighborhood was beautiful. We were just a short walk to the wedding we were in town for, and the Des Moines Art Center.
The carriage house was a beautiful property, each room was very spacious and my kids really enjoyed the ping pong table set up. All of the rooms had huge windows, and the character and charm of the place was really neat. The owner texted me on the morning before to see if I needed anything and let me know she was available if I did. We would definitely stay here again any time.
This is a very spacious and beautiful apartment. We loved the architecture and mature trees surrounding one side. It was a bonus the kids learned to play pool! I enjoyed hearing the church bells chime regularly through the day. This neighborhood is home for me, so it was delightful to walk to familiar places like Greenwood Park, which has the DSM Art Center, pond, playground, splashpad, swimming pool and wooded bike trails. The hosts are delightful and helpful.
The Carriage House was an absolute hit for us. Set in a quaint neighborhood filled with lots of history, trees, and in walking/riding distances to bike and running paths. The hosts were friendly and made sure we had what we needed. It rained one day and our college aged sons along with us, loved playing pool, ping pong, and darts. The beds were comfortable. It had everything we needed, and we will stay again when we visit our son that attends Drake. Thank you!
Listing is accurate. Nice amenities like the pool table made this home fun for the kids and adults. House is on the same property as the owners who were available but not intrusive. Actually it was great that Sarah was around to help with questions or provide extra amenities as needed. What a lovely host. Only complaint is that the property is above the car garage which was noticeable when it was being operated . This was not a huge deal for us though in light of all the positives. Great quiet walkable and safe neighborhood.
Very cute unit however it was not clean. Sheets were stained and dirty, pillow dirty, stained and very old. Inside of the refrigerator was not wiped down. Floors were not clean. Bathtub was not clean. Dish soap was watered down. We ran out of hand soap in the bathroom. The closet door with extra bath towels would not open. It's a beautiful property in a nice neighborhood. The owners were prompt to try address the issues.
I and several college freinds got together for a weekend of board games and catching up. The property was great, in a beautiful location, and perfectly sized for us. The hosts were gracious and nothing but helping.
