The yurt and the entire experience were everything I seek in a vacation rental and yet rarely findâimmaculate, beautifully arranged, carefully and thoughtfully stocked, everything in excellent repair and in perfectly working order, in a safe, quiet, extremely dog-friendly environment. Everything about the process was flawless; communication with the owner was fabulous, check-in couldn't have been simpler, clear and very reasonable instructions were provided, and we felt completely at ease, comfortable, and at home. The yurt itself is gorgeousâfull of space and light, with lovely fixtures and furnishings. The grounds are also very well keptâa fully fenced-in yard, trimmed lawn, pretty plantings, and a fire pit complete with cozy string lights. It was peaceful and quiet and we loved it. Already looking forward to going back!
The Yurt is even better than the pictures of the property . My dog loved the fenced yard and deck. As a Solo traveler this was just what I needed to balance mind, body, spirit. Julia and Harry are wonderful hosts, very warm and personalble. The Yurt has so many unique features, you can tell that the hosts put a lot of thought into making this an outstanding vacation rental.
Perfect weekend away to relax. The yurt has everything you need for a calm retreat. Close to be parkway. The hosts have everything you might need as a guest. The pup also love the space to run around, and we knew she was safe
We loved being at this beautiful mountain Yurt built lovingly by the hosts with every attention to detail with particular attention to dog friendly couples. Itâs so rare to find such a lovely place so welcoming to caring dog friendly folks. Thanks again Julia and Harry ⊠we will be back!
This was a truly quiet and peaceful haven for the two of us. Just minutes from the Blueridge Parkway. Although it was cold outside, the owner had it cozy and warm for us when we arrived. It was equipped inside with everything you could ever need. The kitchen and bathroom were beautiful and modern. We loved going out into the fenced in backyard and listen to the quiet peace of the woods that surrounded us. At night the absence of light pollutions allowed us to see the most stars we have ever seen. The owners went out of there way to make sure we the best stay and everything we needed.
We have been coming to the area since 2007 and this was the best place we have ever stayed. We will defiantly be going back!
To the owners: Thank You!
My spouse and I had a wonderful time at Julia's yurt. She and her husband have thought of all the things one might need to enjoy their time there. Our pups loved the fenced in yard and we loved sitting by the firepit. We will be back!
Julia & Harry are wonderful host! The yurt was so cozy and clean. Dan of Meadows has so many wonderful things to do. We would highly recommend staying here and visiting primitive coffee, poor farmers market, chateau morrisette winery, Mayberry trading post. We hope to be back one day!
Wow!!! This yurt was amazing and our first time in a yurt. All the comforts of a nice cabin but in a round yurt. The fenced in deck and back yard was great for our fur babies.
The property was amazing and so beautiful! Everything was set up so nice and well maintained. Clean, up to date and ready for when we arrived. The host were AMAZING and look forward to going back again
We enjoyed a weekend away celebrating our 20th anniversary. The yurt was a unique comfortable experience. We enjoyed the peaceful location. There was plenty to do in the area and many great places to eat.
We had a wonderful time escaping the Georgia heat in this outstanding yurt in the Blue Ridge Mountains! I've never seen any other listing for a yurt with all the comforts of home. Harry and Julia really went all out on the design and construction of this home. We had never stayed in a yurt before so, it was fun to have a unique experience. We've probably spoiled ourselves on yurts though, because I doubt any other would measure up to this one. We loved the panoramic views of nature from the living area/kitchen. Our dog loved having a nice level grassy fenced in yard where she could run and play off leash. We also couldn't get over how quiet it was outside at night! I guess in The Meadows of Dan even the wildlife and insects go to bed at sundown. The yurt is close to area attractions like the Blue Ridge Parkway, Rocky Knob Recreation area (and other trails), wineries, Mabry Mill, etc. I highly recommend reading the book in the yurt about the history and people of Rock Castle Gorge and visiting it. The lower part of the Rock Castle Gorge trail can be accessed from CC Camp road off of Hwy 8 if you are like me and are 0% mountain goat and don't want to hike down 1,000 feet from the visitor center. All in all the stars really aligned for us on this vacation experience. It really was the best of both worlds of camping and home! Communication with the host Julia was great and the yurt was tidy and well stocked. Book it! Go! Enjoy!!
The place was a beautiful peaceful getaway. The property was clean and had all basic necessities and more. The book showing the building process was great and the owners were great at communicating with all needed information and any inquiries. The location is about 40 minutes from a pottery (chrysanthemum pottery iirc), a gorgeous trout stream is also down the road, the blueridge parkway is nearby and even a chocolate factory. All in all it was one of the most memorable mountain stays because of location and the beautiful yurt.
The yurt was beautiful... well thought out and has everything you need. The owner was a delight to rent from. And the location was secluded but also had many nearby trails to hike.
The property was absolutely perfect. The fenced in yard for the dogs was secure. They enjoyed being off leash and we did not have to worry. The yurt was so cozy and well equipped with everything we needed. Didn't want to leave and ready to go back!
This was my first time staying in a yurt and in the area of meadows of Dan. The property was great, the owners are very helpful and nice. Everything you need to "glamp" and its nestled beautifully off the Blue Ridge Parkway.
We had a wonderful time at the Yurt. Julia was an amazing host and she answered all of my weird questions even before we arrived. The only complaint I would have is the construction coming up the mountain from Stuart. The yurt is well kept and well stocked with everything! Nice, Quaint little town with cute shops near by. The gas station is bigger than it looks and stocks EVERYTHING (meats, veggies, snacks, everything!). We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!! Although, we did not get to enjoy the firepit....it rained quite a bit while we were there.
We love using vrbo type rentals when we travel. We have stayed in some nice places but Julia's yurt surpasses every places we've stayed. It is spacious, clean, well decorated, has everything you could possibly need. There are frosted mugs in the freezer, a sound machine in the bedroom, the softest towels and sheets. The wrap around deck and fully fenced in property for our dogs was beyond incredible. Waking up with a nice cup of coffee, having the dogs out and watching the sunrise was a highlight of our stay. Julia was also extremely friendly and helpful. She responded quickly and gave great local recommendations. We cannot say enough about this rental. We are already planning our trip back for next year. Do not hesitate on this one. We honestly did not want to leave. If I could give it 10 stars, I would.
I was giddy immediatey upon arrival. The yurt, bult completely by the host/hostess, surpassed what I had imagined even from online descriptions. Tucked away in the hills and surrounded by trees in all directions, it is a place of absolute serenity. Inside the yurt you'll experience near 360 views from windows and doors to the outside. Inside is cozy with gorgeous modern kitchen and bathroom. A fenced in yard allowed space for my pup to run around and enjoy the outdoors along with me, which you will want to take advantage of by sitting on the deck and soaking it all in (the fire pit, too!). The hosts Julia and Harry are nothing short of wonderful; attentive, helpful, quick to respond, accomodating, generous, and so very kind. The appreciation I have for my entire experience is beyond words. Have decided this to be an annual getaway. Check out Mabry Mill (10 minute drive), and Chateau Morisette Winery (20 minutes). Close to downtown Floyd. Minutes to Blue Ridge Parkway. And quaint shops, grocery, gifts, coffee, etc around the corner right in Meadows of Dan. Cannot recommend this rental, or this area enough. Five stars are not enough. Book and enjoy!!!
The Yurt is located in a very quiet and relaxing location. The host Julia has thought of everything down to the frosted mugs, which was used a lot on this stay. Julia also makes sure to communicate everything you need to know about your trip. This trip was for my wife and I to just get away and relax and turn cell phones off. The Yurt has a fenced in yard for your pets. M. Walters
I was looking for a glamping getaway for a golden birthday celebration when I came across the Mountain Waves Yurt. I was connected to the owner thru VRBO; I was anxious pets are not allowed, but to my delight, we can take our grand dog Kira with us. We took the long drive, and were just awed when we arrived by the beauty of the place. It's like staying in a luxurious hotel in the middle of the forest. Julia and her husband are great hosts. They made sure we had everything we needed and took time to prepare stuff to accommodate our dog. The place is spacious and spotlessly clean, and the outside lawn is well-manicured and tended. There is a firepit outside but we opted to sit on the porch with a glass of wine while Kira played in the enclosed yard on our first night. The stores nearby sells locally made products, I loved going to the Farmer's market, the food is delicious and very affordable. The yurt has a fully equiped kitchen, so we made some dinner on our last night. Our stay was very short, but we enjoyed every minute of it. What topped the experience was on our last day, we were awoken by the sound of raindrops on the roof of the Yurt. If you are looking for some solitude and a relaxing destination, I highly recommend this place.
Ps ...as a dog owner, reading Julia's book, Mostly Bob, is profoundly touching.
