The Space:
This primitive build has a natural way of connecting its guests to the simple pleasures of simpler times. Enjoy first-hand the awe-inspiring vistas, sunrises and long lingering sunsets, relaxation, and unpretentious hospitality of this cabin retreat.
This cabin was crafted by local polar explorer Lonnie Dupre and us, the owners.
At just over 300 sq ft this the cabin is both quaint and spacious boasting an open floor plan and cathedral ceiling.
Built for travelers seeking a retreat in a sustainable stay, we designed this cabin to offer all the necessities one would need in thoughtfulness of nature: wood-fired sauna, solar power for lighting and charging electronics, gas fireplace and stove, A-frame outhouse, rain barrels for wash water.
The inspiration for Great Northern Campo came from our time spent living in Argentina, which is where our story together began. Our hope is that travelers can enjoy the same serenity from nature in this rustic refuge that our journeyâs brought us.
The interior has been thoughtfully curated with unique decor from Patagonia, Argentina and local Grand Marais artists.

To Our Canadian Friends, Grand Marais has always been a place where communities come together, and for years, Canadians have been an essential part of this townâs heart and spirit. Your presence, your stories, and your love for the North Shore make this place even more special.
As a small way of showing our gratitude, weâre offering a discount to our Canadian guests. We know times arenât easy, and we want to make it a little lighter for you to visit a place that has felt like home for so many.
Weâd love to welcome you backâwhether itâs for a quiet retreat, an adventure in the woods, or just time to breathe in the lake air.
Social Handle: GreatNorthernCabins
Cook County Rental License: VR21-021
Guest Access:
Guests have access to the entire cabin, grill, fire pit, deck, private parking, and large wooded yard backing the Superior National Forest.
The recreational activities: beach combing, hiking, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing, fatbiking, snowmobile...
FAQ:
Is this cabin for everyone? â Not exactly⊠We want to be clear that this is an off-grid cabin that was meant to be used as a rustic retreat.
Is the bed upstairs? â Yes. The bed is located in the high loft which can only be accessed by a steep ladder. Guests use at their own risk.
Is there Wifi or cell network service? â There is some cell signal. Verizon tends to have much better reception than At&t or T-Mobile.
There is no wifi⊠some say for an even better connection :)
What is a âdryâ cabin? â This means you will be completely off-grid: solar-powered lighting & charging, plumbing free, outhouse, etc.
What about water? â We provide drinking water in larger jugs May-October. Guests will need to bring any drinking or wash water November - April. We have rain barrels in summer months for collecting wash water. In winter snow can be melted for wash water.
What is your bathroom situation? â We have an A-frame outhouse just next to the cabin. There is also an outdoor bucket shower May-Oct (see in photo gallery). Guests who would prefer a little more water pressure can consider visiting the Grand Marais Rec park for a $4 shower, or buy a $10 day-pass to the Grand Marais YMCA to take advantage of the gym, workout facility, showers, hot tub, sauna, and pool.
Do you have a coffee maker? â We have a pour over and filters for your use.
Do you have a grill or fire pit? â Yes, May through Oct. We have a charcoal BBQ. There is also a fire pit. Wood bundles can be bought in town. Guests are free to use fire pit year round but are responsible for snow removal to use it if they wish to do so.
How remote is the cabin? â The cabin is easily accessed (approx. 300 ft) just off Hwy 61 on a maintained driveway. Your views are woods, nature & Lake Superior. While this cabin is completely private, there are neighbors several hundred feet through the woods. However, just as most cabins close to Lake Superior, you could have some road noise.
Winter Conditions:
We recommend AWD/4WD vehicle from Nov 1 to April 30. 2 wheel drive vehicles are free to use the parking at the bottom of the driveway (300ft from cabin). Due to plowing shortages we cannot guarantee that the road will be plowed on a daily basis.
We have 2 parking spots available at the bottom of the driveway in the case that guests are uncomfortable with driving the steep hill or that the conditions are unfavorable to do so. It is approximately a 300ft walk up to the cabin from the bottom of the driveway.
Petsâš:
* Only one well-behaved and trained dog per cabin reservation is permitted, subject to an additional nightly fee. The dog must be over 12 months old and fully trainedâno exceptions.
If your dog is likely to bark excessively or cause damage, we request that you leave them at home to help us continue offering dog-friendly accommodations. The credit card used for the reservation will be charged for any damages. If your dog exhibits excessive barking, disruptive behavior, we may ask you to leave without a refund and will not be allowed for future reservations.âš
* Ensure your dog is included in the reservation and that the pet fee is paid before arrival. Bringing a dog that is not listed on your reservation will result in a $250 fine in addition to the nightly pet rate.
* Dogs cannot be left alone in the cabin or on the property under any circumstances. We have wildlife in the area that is dangerous to dogs and can be fatal if left alone. If youâre unsure about your dog's behavior, please arrange for a pet sitter. Pet fees are non-refundable.
* Dogs are not allowed in lofted areas, beds, or furniture. Please remember to pack your dogâs cozy bed for their stay!
* Owners must clean up after their dogs and dispose of waste properly. Failure to do so will incur an additional fee.
* Clean your petâs paws before entering the cabin.
* Dogs must be leashed at all times on the propertyâno exceptions. Keep your dogs under strict control at all times around the site and nearby in woods which has lots of wildlife.
* Any damage must be reported within 1 hour of arrival; otherwise, you will be held responsible. Items chewed on or destroyed will be replaced entirely at the guestâs expense.
* Weâre pet friendly but also cleaner friendly! If cleaners have to clean pet waste, rid of strong odors or stains are left behind requiring an excessive amount of time, we will compensate them for their time at your expense.
Regarding Service Dogs and Emotional Support Animals: Emotional Support Animals differ from trained and registered service animals. Emotional Support Animals must comply with our pet rules and the pet fee must be paid. Service dogs are welcome without an additional fee. You will be asked two questions permitted by the ADA:
1. Is the dog a service animal required because of a disability?
2. What work or task has the dog been trained to perform?
Service animals must be harnessed, leashed, or tethered unless these devices interfere with the animalâs work or the disability prevents their use. In such cases, the animal must be under control through voice, signal, or other effective means and never left alone.
If a pet is misrepresented as a service animal, we may seek financial restitution, report fraudulent claims, and evict the guest without further notice, with no refund for the remaining stay.
Note that, as of 2022, both vacation rentals and airlines no longer recognize Emotional Support Animals as service animals. If you have an ESA, please book a pet-friendly property and pay the applicable fees.

Qui vous reçoit ?
Vous ĂȘtes reçu par Stevie Plummer

Stevie was born in Texas and traveled all over the world until she moved to Argentina to cross over 1,000 miles of Patagonia solo with her 2 horses and dog.
Juani was a restaurant owner from Buenos Aires, Argentina when the two met in Patagonia. Life eventually brought the two back to The States permanently.
Stevie always told Juani about this beautiful little town Called Grand Marais and her idea to build, design and share a unique off-grid cabin.
So we decided to move to GM and we start our project called Patagonia Cabin, not only because Patagonia is where everything started for us, but more importantly because for us it is not to share a cabin, its to share this place called home, the history of every element, and this beautiful journey that we started as a family.
We host and manage various properties for our clients located mostly on The North Shore.
Co-Hosting Background:
*Professional STR management for clients, achieving 5-star ratings (over 500 reviews) and Superhost Status for 16 consecutive quarters in some of the top grossing listings in the area.
*Properties under my management have booking rates of over 95%.
*Bilingual: English (Native) & Spanish (Fluent).
*Scheduled staff shifts including cleaners and maintenance for all properties.
