My family, including my five siblings (along with our mother and father) lived and grew up three miles down the road. Growing up on the farm was tough and meant we all had chores to do, typically in the morning before and then again after school. Growing up on a farm was full of duties and hard work, which left little time for fun or family vacations.
My father got up at 5 am, had breakfast and worked on the farm until 2:30 pm each day. Heâd then stop, rush home and just in the shower, have a cup of instant Nescafe coffee with a half dozen pecan sandies cookies, dipping most in the coffee and then jumping in his car to drive the 35 minutes to his normal job that started at 4 pm. Dad worked at Westinghouse making light bulbs from 4 pm until midnight at which time heâd drive back home to start the process all over again.
Once in a while, heâd go to work early and stop at the Milbrook Bread store, which had some shelves with day old bread and other items. This was the only time we had âname brandâ products brought home. Most times it was always the ABC type food products and with 8 people in the family to feed and cloth and house, my parents did the best they could do. My father had a sweet tooth and he loved Malted Milk Balls and Circus Peanuts and all types of cookies but his favorite was elderberry pie. I guess he liked that because it required a pound of sugar to even eat. Plus, where he grew up right here on this parcel that is now âOne More Roundâ, there were two large elderberry trees up by the barn. My father would always eat his desert first when we would go to a family function, church dinner or the sometimes splurged upon trip to, âPonderosa Steak Houseâ. Someone asked him once why he did that. The answer was pretty simple. He said, âdesert is the best part of dinner, if I eat it first, Iâll always have roomâ. Such is the wisdom of a 2nd generation farmer in New York State.

Pourquoi avoir choisi cet hébergement ?
Now on to this cabin and how it is named. Right behind the cabin are several hay fields that we farmed hay from each year. During the summer, thatâs all we did, make hay. Sometimes 10,000 small square hay bales, other years, as much as 15,000 bales. One day we were in the field behind this cabin where the large double electric poles are. It was in July or August and it was extremely hot and towards the end of the day. Just below those two electric poles the hill gets pretty steep. We are on Italy Hill you know! Anyway, the wagon was full and had met normal capacity of about 7 or 8 rows high of stacked hay. My father thought he could get what was left on the field to fit in this one already full wagon. So as kids, we kept going higher and stacking more hay and yelling for Dad to stop and head home. He would motion back to us with his arm going in a circle and would yell âOne More Roundâ.
Quels sont les atouts de cet hébergement ?
This cabin really is unique with lots of custom craftsmanship. The interior of One More Round (except for the ceiling) is made from Spruce logs harvested off the back of the property where you see woods beyond the electric poles and lines. We had the spruce logs sawed in to boards and then âplanedâ to make them smooth. We think everything came out spectacular. Then we had a custom made kitchen table out of Walnut, as well as the sitting table in the 2nd bedroom. All benches are made out of ceder, as well as the railing at the top of the spiral staircase. We know you'll appreciate and enjoy your stay in this outstanding newly remodeled cabin.
