Skylarking cottage is at the end of a rolling stone path that takes you through the tropical hardwood forest. Quiet and secluded, with floor to ceiling aqua blue water views. Complete with spacious deck, hardwood floors and a stone and wood outdoor shower. 100% off grid and in tune with nature, you are immersed in the natural beauty of The Bahamas. Explore the coastline on gin clear waters with the included paddle boards and kayak. Get underwater to meet the local marine life by snorkeling the rocky shoreline. Lots of beaches nearby as well as Surfers Beach for those that want to hang ten. The property consists of a main residence on the top of the hill and the cottage down by the water. The cottage is not visible from the main residence and the main residence is not visible from the cottage.
Due to a flight cancellation we were able to only stay one night at Skylarking. Other than a very bumpy, rocky and steep access road, the villa was fine for us. A great view and a nice swimming hole below. Nicely equipped inside. The access path through the trees is a bit rough, especially for a roller bag.
This cottage is the best place we have ever stayed at. If you think what you see is amazing, the pictures don't accurately depict the beauty of this place. It is SO MUCH MORE!!! If you are considering staying here, do yourself a favor and just book it. You will not regret it. Aside from the amazing opportunities this cottage has to offer, there is so much to see and do at the nearby towns, beaches, and restaurants. Don't think, just book.
For our first trip to Eleuthera, this property set the bar high. Absolutely the most relaxing experience. From the amazing view to the outdoor shower, loved everything about Skylarking cottage! Thank you Petagay for sharing your little piece of island paradise.
What a wonderful property that is as secluded as you could ever hope for, very lovely and with a private bay, only with the occasional boat that drops anchor. Just make sure you get an SUV to make it up the gravel hill, glad we saw the reviews with that recommendation.
Great place to get refueled. It is quiet beyond comprehension, beautiful scenery, peaceful. Wonder views. Youâll want to rent a vehicle with high ground clearance and traction. Sections of the access road can be a bit daunting. But overall it was a wonderful experience.
We had an ideal stay at Skylarking Cottage. The host is wonderful. The cottage itself is amazing complete with huge deck, with screened full length door...so you can hear the lapping of the sea, and catch the breeze while you sleep. There is also a outdoor, "Jungle Shower," it has rock walls on sides, so very private. There is also a place to grill with a picnic table, and a private rock slab beach area with two nice beach chairs with pads and an umbrella. You also have access to paddle boards, and a kayak. You may want to bring your own beach towels. We brought our own. One review we had read said they were provided, but we didn't find any. This is the perfect place for you if you are looking for a romantic getaway, or some place quiet and serene. Our two favorite restaurants were The Glass Window bar and grill and Daddy Joe's. Both are near where you are staying. There is not a TV or microwave, but wifi works great, so you can stream shows on your own device. There is quite a bit of walking on the paths to get to the cottage, and down to the beach. Also, rent an SUV, or get an SUV taxi, as the terrain/road in is rough. Totally worth it, though.
Skylarking is such a unique place to stay- it feels like you are in a tree house with the best view imaginable! As advertised, the views are stunning from all areas of the cottage; you can even see the beautiful blues of the Caribbean as you shower! The water is so very clear you can see turtles and rays swimming by while up on the large comfortable deck, which is like another room. The cottage was super clean, the bed firm but very comfy, there is a good amount of storage space, and Petegay was a wonderful hostess! She was easy to get in touch with, quick to respond to any questions, and gave us space but was there if we needed her. The outdoor shower was lovely; it has great water pressure and hot water is not an issue at all! As someone with allergies, I was worried about the resident cat but we found that once we made it clear she was not wanted, she did not show up again. The one thing that renters should know is that there is a stone walkway a little over 100 yards long that leads to the cottage which could be challenging for anyone with mobility issues. Book this place now and you will not be disappointed! It is amazing! Do not let the off the grid status fool you- you will be quite comfortable in this simple yet elegantly designed little oasis! see turtles
This is the perfect spot to get away from it all. The view is phenomenal and will recharge your soul within minutes. There are paddle boards and a kayak to explore the scenic shoreline. We saw sea turtles, rays, starfish, and multiple species of tropical fish. The driveway will require an SUV and you need to take it slow which is not a big deal. You will need water shoes or sturdy footwear for the stone paths and rocky portions of the waters edge. The cabin is off the grid so you wonât be able to use a hairdryer and there is no microwave but this was not an issue for usâŠ.we came to chill out and enjoy the natural surroundings. The AC was more than ample and the outdoor shower was perfect for this private location. Petagay, our host, was very responsive and super helpful. Canât wait to go back, sit on the deck and gaze out over the oceanâŠ..
Extreme privacy in a jungle setting- CHECK
Incredible water with abundant marine life- CHECK
Comfortable off grid living on the most beautiful island in the Bahamas- Double CHECK!
Do your research and learn how to access Twin Coves Beach- itâs well worth the journey. Consider somewhat limited eating options and expensive and limited grocery items. We highly recommend taking dry goods with you.
Absolutely our favorite place to visit- if you like some adventure this is the place!
Absolutely stunning! The view, the water, complete solitude. I echo what others have said, definitely rent an SUV, I donât think a car could clear the ruts in the road leading up to the cottage. If you arenât a fan of nature, bugs, crabs in the outdoor shower this is not for you.
But it is so beautiful, take the SUP or kayaks to the beach to the right, or just float in your own bay. One day we had high winds and it was very wavy and the water was high, the other clear skies and clear water and calm seas so we could just float on our backs. Water shoes are helpful just to get in and out but when we were there they had a bucket full of them so you may not need to bring them yourselves.
As wasteful Americans we do like a cold room and with the air conditioning on the economy setting and the ceiling fan on high we were every comfortable sleeping at night even though it was very hot outside.
There are some left over sunscreen and bug sprays, and a few spices and coffee in the kitchen. I would recommend bringing a beach towel. There are some smaller Turkish towels but itâs nice to have a little more.
We were there in May and not all restaurants are open when they say they will be as itâs shoulder season. I believe you can always count on the cove restaurant at the hotel just down the road to be open, although it is pricey.
Canât wait to go back.
My wife and I booked the cottage to celebrate my birthday and our anniversary. It was an amazing place to stay and we both enjoyed our time here. The view from the porch can't be beat. The ocean access here was nice and you are only a short drive from some really amazing beaches. I was a little hesitant at first about the cottage being off the grid, but I'm thankful that it was as we had power and water the whole time, while Gregory Town was without power for a few days during our trip. I can't recommend this place enough. If you are thinking about staying here, then go ahead and book it, you won't regret it. The road to the cottage is a little rough in spots so I would recommend an SUV over a sedan (at one point we were driving a Subaru and made it just fine).
Property is beautiful and secluded. As people before have said, it is best to have a higher SUV type vehicle, the hill before the parking spot is a pretty good hill. House is perfect, off grid, quiet and had everything we needed. We didnt use the AC but had no issues with anything being off grid. Water access was easy for swimming, paddleboarding, kayaking and snorkeling (go right from the stairs for shallow water and left for deeper water and more fish/coral). If you are looking for a laid back vacation this is the place for you, if you are looking for resort type living pick another island. Thank you Petagay for everything and we hope to be back soon!
Skylarking Cottage is in an extraordinarily beautiful location with unmatched privacy and quiet. I stayed a full week and enjoyed every minute. The view is spectacular with sunsets and morning rainbows over the bay that feel like being in heaven. Petagay is a gracious host and made certain that everything was comfortable.
Skylarking is a very special property, and our time went by much too fast. The location is ideal from the perspective of convenience to groceries, restaurants, beaches and ELH. Regardless of where you stay always rent some type of SUV. You'll definitely need one here. The property is beautiful. It feels like the stone path is leading you into the jungle until you arrive at the house and experience the view of the Caribbean below. The views from this house are breathtaking. The house is essentially one large room. There is a tiny, but well-laid-out and functional kitchen at the back. The main room is airy and spacious. We spent most of the week with the floor-to-ceiling glass doors open, so the large deck felt like an extension of the living space. I slept like a baby the entire week between the fresh air and the sound of the Carribean below. The bathroom is quite large and there's space to store empty luggage under the vanity. The only shower is just outside, and other than the occasional bird or hermit crab, it is completely private. For an off-grid property, the water pressure and temperature were the best we've experienced on the island. While we loved the house, we also spent a lot of time on the little beach and in the water. We realized we could have stayed put for the entire week and have never been bored between snorkeling and paddling. If you're looking for a hotel, Skylarking is not for you, but if you're looking for unplugged time in paradise, it's perfection.
If you want a beautiful place to get away from the worldâŠ.. this is your place !
I felt like we were on a deserted island, but we drove to restaurants when we needed to get outâŠ.
Already booked a second stay! The beauty of this location is unbelievable. Everything we needed was available. We cooked all of our meals in the home. The outside shower was just the right added touch!
Located on the ocean with an amazing view of the crystal clear Bahamian water. Stunning sunsets with great kayaking, paddle boarding and snorkeling. Large private deck with chairs and comfy sofa.
