Very nice cottage that is well equipped for large groups and has a large open lawn. Host insisted on communicating outside the VRBO platform and had a large list of rules and additional contracts for the rental and the hottub.
My partner, children, their spouses and 11 grandchildren had an amazing stay at Paradise Palace. A very large piece of property for outdoor games, etc, very private, great canoeing, fishing, clear river that can swim in if donât mind a bit of water wildlife, large private fire pit area. Inside open concept, very bright and roomy, large kitchen, pool table was a hit, close to Bobcaygeon. The owner was very helpful and quick at responding to any questions. Definitely recrecommend
Lovely grounds on the river
Cottage needs some TLC
Need dishcloths and a potatoe masher.
Dishwasher needs to be attached to a wall
A hazard unloading dishes
Comfy beds
Lots of room for a crowd
Unimpressed is an understatement, donât trust the property manager.
I asked prior to booking if an earlier check in time would be possible since 5pm is quite late and we were travelling from Toronto with a baby and a dog. We were told between 3-4pm shouldnât be a problem. The day of, after we had already left to make the two hour drive, we were informed by Tom that there was a power outage and not to travel until that was resolved. We were already in townâŠAround 3:30pm I reach out to Tom asking if we are able to head over to the property to at least sit outside. Tom ignored my question about being in the backyard, so we decided to head over to the property to at least be able to park our cars. Tom then drives by the property and sees weâre there so he FINALLY said we could wait outside. The cleaner (who was lovely and more informative and helpful) came out to check on us and did her best to get us inside as soon as possible. We could hear Tom inside fixing something with a power tool. Why this wasnât started until we were already there is beyond me. Tom comes out and says the least he can do it offer us firewood and fire colour changing stuff. The cleaner said to us we should be getting a bit of a refund. We finally get in after 5:30pm. The hot tub had been drained (the cleaner came back the next day to refill it). It wasnât useable until the last day. One canoe had a crack in ir. Not all bedrooms and bathrooms were cleaned. The couch was visibly stained. I asked Tom for a partial refund for all of this and he offered only $60. Not happy.
Tom and his crew took excellent care to make sure our stay was perfect. Everything was as advertised and they stayed in touch with us throughout the duration of our stay to ensure there were no issues.
Beautiful waterfront property, great for a large family group.
Our group enjoyed many features of Paradise Palace. The shallow waterfront was great for the young children in our group. Pool table was also a popular item. Location is convenient.
The place is massive with enough rooms to comfortably house 20+
Property is very large and has a lot of amenities to keep everyone busy all day. Jumping from the bridge into the water was the highlight for our boys. Will be back again
We brought a group of 20 friends together for the May long weekend to celebrate some life milestones. The cottage definitely was what we needed! There were tons of things to do for folks who had various interests, inside and outside. Paddling, volleyball, a fire. We brought lots of lawn games and the space could have multiple set up at one time. There's also a great communal space where we could eat and be together. Tom was incredibly communicative and collaborative, and was easy going when we needed more information or clarification. The property seems used mostly for rentals, so while it had all the basic fixings, things were not dainty or spotless so you felt comfortable being yourself and sinking into the cottage life in this rental. An FYI if the hot tub is a priority, there is a $500 e-transfer deposit but if you take care of it during your stay you'll be fine. We are a down to earth crew who are used to cottage life- so this hit the mark on that!
Visited as a large group of adult friends and Paradise Palace was great. We visited in the fall, which limits your outdoor activities generally, but there was plenty to do inside to make up the difference. Lots of seating, table space, beds, etc. I would strongly recommend it for larger groups. The arcade cabinet and emulator combination is a real nostalgia trip.
A clean, comfortable place with some disadvantages
Major advantages:
âą Large enough to comfortably accommodate a family reunion of 20 people.
âą spacious outdoor area with things for kids to do and places for people to congregate in good weather (which, unfortunately, we didnât have in mid-October).
âą Well-equipped games room
For these advantages, we would consider renting again. But there were some negatives as well.
âą Advertises for 20 people, but the kitchen is not really equipped for that many, with shortages of coffee cups, glasses, kitchen towels, cooking utensils, and basic silverware. (There were a dozen tongs, but we never did find a second dish towel and had to mash potatoes with a table fork.) We were there to celebrate Thanksgiving, so the kitchen mattered.
âą The secondary refrigerator wasnât working. (We barely rescued our Thanksgiving turkey.) When we pointed this out, the owner shrugged it off. âItâs just an extra refrigerator.â Perhaps, but if itâs there, it should work.
âą Although there are 3 bathrooms, one is ensuite in a room for two, so really there are just two bathrooms for potentially 18 people.
âą Most of the house rules are reasonable enough, but they are presented in an off-putting, military tone including the cost of replacement or service costs for virtually every major item or possible malfunction.
âą Itâs the first place weâve rented that requires you to cart your own garbage to the dump, with a hefty charge for any bags left behind.
Incredible stay - Spacious clean and lots of amenities
We had a great time especially with the hottub. Tommy was a very responsive host. Pictures dont do its justice. Cottage was very spacious which makes it very ideal for larger groups. Also having a pool table inside a cottage (which requires a lot of space) was a very nice addition. There was so much to do inside the cottage on a rainy day.
Such a beautiful and big cottage. Has everything we needed
Such an amazing place. The pool table, fooseball table, and 4 player arcade kept the kids entertained for days. The cottage was big enough for our group of 15, noone felt cramped at all. The bedrooms were all very big. Lots of space outside for the kids to run around. Kids had an amazing time swimming in the warm water. Adults had an amazing time canoeing with the provided canoes. Shallow sandy entry way from the shoreline. Quite a private cottage. Highly recommended for big groups.
This place is big and spacious, enough to fit our group of 20, including kids. The property has a dock that leads to a river that you can swim, paddleboard, and do other water activities. There is something for everyone to do. Whenever we had questions, Tommy responded very quickly and communication with him was very easy. Would recommend his place for other groups as well!
