Absolutely perfect cabin in a PRIME location!!! Escape to our peaceful cabin located in a nature dense and secluded part of Carp Lake just minutes away from public access, marina where boats can be rented, a local favorite bar, and a yummy lakeside restaurant that are all walking distance away. This cute little cabin is 2 bedrooms and one bathroom with a spacious living area and kitchen for the whole family to enjoy! Also has a fire pit for those cozy nights under the stars and sâmores!
*This home does not have direct access to the lake - Please do not book unless you have read and understand that the public access is down the road!*
Older cottage but kept well. Would have been nice if bedroom doors closed easier, they dragged across floor making loud noise in night. Extremely pet friendly (which was great) Kitchen was nice and seemed to have all the basics needed. Loved having the campfire at night before bed. Overall, comfortable enough for a couple nights stay.
Great location, cozy cabin. There are two cabins on the property. Know which one you are supposed to be in. We had an issue where the guests from the other cabin mistakenly settled into ours before we arrived. We were a bigger group and couldnât take the smaller cabin. Host was very apologetic and offered to send cleaners out, which we declined as it was late & they had only been there a couple of hours. Cabin does only sleep 4 comfortably & there is not a washer as listed. Had a small issue with one of the beds, again, host was responsive & offered to send maintenance, which we declined as we got something figured out. A few issues, but overall a good stay and great that I could bring my cat along.
My husband & I were not impressed at all with this property. The cabin was not taken care of inside or outside. When we arrived on our first day there was lots of garbage on the side of the house. They only had a shower & it took 5-10 minutes to regulate the temp of the water. They said it has a washer & dryer*******NO didnât have either one. The kitchen didnât even have a can opener, the hand held type. One kitchen towel to dry dishes for the 7 nights we were there. They had silverware but no sharp knife. When I first arrived at the cabin we were unloading our suitcases into the cabin and I fell because the entranceway that led to the living room wasnât level. They definitely should have a hand rail there or watch your step sign. I am 69 years and I could have broken an arm or leg because there wasnât anything there. After my fall I knew then to step up or down by the entrance way. I donât want someone else to fall and get hurt! For the money we had to pay for our week stay this place wasnât worth it. The only good thing I have to say about this place is itâs close to Mackinaw City.
I really struggled trying to decide if I should leave a review, but I feel like I spent too much money for the condition of the cottage. I want to warn future potential renters what theyâre renting. You need to love the smell of dogs, rock hard dirty mattresses with no mattress pads, ill equipped kitchen (no sharp knife, no can opener, no cutting boardâŠ) bedroom doors that donât shut, overflowing trash outside and a view of abandon cars at the bonfire pit to enjoy your stay. Also there is no way that 6 people could sleep here. There are 2 beds, a love seat (not a sofa bed) and a chair. The location is good.
I have to start by saying this review was difficult to write. While there were a few positives, there were also several issues that really impacted our stay. The positives:The location of the property was perfect â just a 12-minute drive to downtown Mackinaw. We really appreciated how secluded and quiet it was.Unfortunately, the negatives outweighed the positives:âąInaccurate listing: The biggest issue is that the listing is misleading. It claims to sleep 6, but there are only two queen beds â no pullout couch, no full-size couch, no cot. If you have more than 4 people, you simply wonât have proper sleeping arrangements. This needs to be made clear to future guests.âąCleanliness & maintenance: When we arrived, the outdoor trash can was overflowing, and it stayed that way throughout our 2-night stay. It was unpleasant to see and smell that right next to the house.âąComfort & furnishings: The mattresses were very uncomfortable. Bedroom doors didnât close properly unless lifted into place. One of the bed comforters had a strong smell of animal urine, and one of the bedrooms was caked in visible dust.âąKitchen & amenities: The kitchen lacked basic cookware, and what was there had residue on it. We also only found 4 bath towels â 2 were adult size, and the other 2 were toddler-sized.Overall, while we loved the location, we would not stay here again. There are too many issues that need to be addressed, specially for the price and based on how the property was advertised.
Nice cabin in quiet wooded area. Cabin was clean and would comfortably accommodate 4 adults. Location is close to Mackinaw City, Tunnel of trees and Wilderness State Park, yet far enough from the crowds if thatâs your style. Not much is provided for kitchen utensils, furnace is rather loud when itâs running, and less than a full roll of toilet paper was provided. For the rental fee I expected a bit better in those areas. We ended up purchasing some T.P. and a few utensils to get by.
Very clean but not true to pics. Not much for chairs for relaxing other than sofa. Beds took up most of bedroom. Shows fireplace but non working. Communication was great. Thank you
This place was perfect for our needs of having a dog-friendly place to stay between our trips to Mackinaw City & Mackinac Islandâgreat location (~12 minute drive to Mackinaw), comfortable amenities, and quiet. Would love to come back and explore more of the area!
I thought long and hard about leaving this review, but I felt if I were renting this property for the first time, I would want to know. This is truly a cabin. There was an odor of pet urine when we walked into the cabin. There was only one rug in the cabin and it was in the kitchen hiding some mismatched flooring. It was raining the weekend we were there so the rug situation was less than favorable. The beds were uncomfortable. The floors were dirty. There werenât enough bath towels, the shower leaked out onto the bathroom floor. The grounds needed some attention. We were disappointed especially for how much we paid.
A very small and comfortable cabin. We were 2 families of 3 people each. Everything was provided as mentioned in the website. I would advise to reach the place before it gets dark at least while you are checking in. The kids also enjoyed the stay. It was within 10 min of driving distance from the Mackinaw Is Ferry day parking lots!
This property doesn't have direct lake access, but it is nearby lots of quaint beach heads and ferries to the island. Reasonable amenities, reasonable hosts that aren't weirdos, very quiet area.
Beds were absurdly comfortable. Everybody slept great!
My husband and I drove from Madison through the UP along Hwy 2 . It was a gorgeous drive with lots of views of Lake Michigan and many parks for our energetic dog to chase balls. The Mackinac Bridge and ferry to Mackinac Island were just 10 minutes from our cabin. My dog and I walked about a mile into Carp Lake proper. It was very quiet this time of the year... Harbor Lights Grille has a nice view of Paradise Lake. We had a beautiful motorcycle ride through the Tunnel of Trees... Harbor Springs has good restaurants and shops/Trillium Woods serves delicious coffee. Highly recommend checking out the Dark Skies Trails along Lake Michigan. This cabin is a great location. It was plenty big for 2 adults and a dog. The beds were very comfortable. Kuerig coffee was delicious. Photos represent this quirky, old cabin adequately. We had a great 4 nights.... could have stayed longer as there is so much to explore
We loved our stay at this cabin! Only about a 10 minute drive to Mackinaw City, and quiet and peaceful allowing privacy. We brought our dogs with us and they did great! The house was very clean. We will definitely go back. :)
So this cabin is ok. We VRBO a fair amount and have had few disappointments over the years. It would be next to imposable to house six people here and if so they would need to VERY close. There was barley enough pots and pans to prepare meals for three of us, if there were more of us it would not have been posable.
Someone last year mentioned the fact that there were only two coffee cups. This is still the case. There is not a table that is functional enough to comfortably eat your food. There is barely enough seating for three people so bring your camping chairs if you have more . No instructions on what to do with your garbage at check out. Dog hair all over rugs so I am not sure why we were charged a $100 cleaning fee in advance. Bring Keerug cups with you as that is your coffee preparations. Carpenter ants were found throughout the cabin, and it was said to a previous occupant "your up North in a cabin its to be expected". This is not a reasonable response. We lived in the woods in Northern Michigan for 25 years so I would know. It is about a mile to the local pub so it is walkable but its a bit of a hike. Sorry for the less than glowing review but you need to up your "game" a bit and be a little clearer on what you are renting out.
The cabin was clean, a little hard to find as it sat back on a long drive. After we found it it was easy. Very comfortable, would have been better for 4 people but we made it work just fine.
My husband and I had six days with no children so we booked this property near MacKinaw City. The location was great. Close to a rails to trails bike paths and MacKinaw City. It is a quiet, wooded area that feels very secluded. We enjoyed hiking, biking and exploring the area. Harbor Lights Grille gave a lovely view of Carp Lake. The host was amazing with communication. Responding to emails very quickly. You should know that the property is very old and shows signs of that age. There were a few issues that we had with the property and the host has assured us that those issues will be resolved for future visitors. Given how responsive she was to our needs and requests, I trust that she will follow up on those promises and that this property will provide travelers with a welcome, rustic experience.
Cozy private cabin in close proximity to Mackinac City and Ferry to island. The lot has one other cabin, but they are spaced far enough apart that you have ample privacy .Was a little smaller than we would have preferred for 4 nights (bedrooms and bath are quite small). However there is ample storage space in kitchens, bedrooms and bath for clothes, food, toiletries. The owners are new to VRBO so are still purchasing a few kitchen items, so if you want to know if they have a particular kitchen tool, ask in advance. They were very responsive to suggestions of items to buy to meet guests' needs. There is a nice beach area within a few miles off of Wilderness Park Drive nearby, a state park with good hiking trails, and a self guided history tour (free, outside) at McGulpin Point lighthouse. We did not do the Dark Sky viewing area at night but it looks fantastic! Also a couple casual but good restaurants very nearby un addition to Mackinaw City and the Island.
