The Waterfront: Is it a lake? Is it a river? It's both. Our waterfront home is located at the junction of where the Muskegon River turns into Rogers Pond. The River gets dammed up downstream from us for hydroelectric power creating a slower current and wider area, this portion is known as Rogers Pond. There is always a small current running through the water. Upstream near Big Rapids, you can tube the river but at our waterfront, you can also swim, tube, ski, fish, kayak, etc. It's the best of both worlds. It is about 5ft deep at the end of our dock and can have rocks and sticks near the dock. If you want a sandy beach experience you can kayak upstream to find the local "sandbar". You will know when you find it, it is shallow and sandy. Rivers change with weather and overtime so it may not be the same experience for each guest.
We hear the fish you catch in this water is walleye and bass and more like lake fishing than river fishing near our home. We have not had a chance to test it out yet.
** We have a dock you may use to bring your boat and a boat launch across the pond. Being a river there are deep and shallow areas, unexpected logs etc. Drive your boat with care and check out the area slowly before revving her up.
** Water shoes are recommended. This is a river with logs/sticks etc in the water.
A few things to note:
**You are booking a waterfront home on a hill. There are about 50 steps to the waterfront and dock. You assume all risks associated with booking our home and waterfront activities.
** The lower paved patio does not have a railing around it and leads to a steep hill (please see photos) please watch all children and unstable adults.
**kayaks and life jackets are provided for your enjoyment. You must have a lifejacket with you when using the kayaks.
** Charcoal grill and chiminea for fire are also provided. We try to provide charcoal and wood when we can. Please be prepared to grab some from the local coppertop convenience store in Stanwood.
** This is our second home that we enjoy sharing with others when we are not there. Please respect and be kind to our home and neighbors so we can continue to offer it up to guests in the future.
** Quiet Hours 10 pm- 7 am. After 10 pm, please feel free to still enjoy our patios and firepit, we just ask that you shut down any music and talk in quiet voices.
Before 10 pm, please keep music and noise at a level your grandma would approve of! Remember, sound carries on the water. This is not a home or space for loud and rowdy gatherings. We want you to enjoy yourself and the group you are with, but if you plan to be rowdy and cannot abide by the quiet hours and respect our neighbors we kindly ask that you find another place to stay.
