We loved the peace and quiet. The arcade room was a big hit with my daughter and I. We canât wait to stay at the ladybug again. Will highly recommend the ladybug to all my friends and family. Dave was a great host, answered all my questions in a timely manner and simple for us to understand.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this place. Listing was exactly as described and pictured. Great location, close to the cute downtown area of Cape Charles, Kiptopeke state park, and the many natural preserves in the area.
We had a great visit. The host is very responsive and the house is very clean. The new arcade was a hit with the family. We give the location high marks in everything!
Check in was smooth, with the app for door entry working with no problems. Very well appointed kitchen, featuring coffee and espresso machines, an awesome array of cocktail bitters, and a great induction stovetop. Arcade and Infinity game board were a blast. We nerded out on the vinyl records. Multiple game consoles. 3 minutes from nature preserve trails. Excellent communication throughout. Highly enjoyable stay!
First time visit to Cape Charles to celebrate my mother-in-laws birthday. We all loved the farmhouse. It was very clean and everything was modern and new. Beautiful game room and kitchen! Hosts were very welcoming and responsive. The whole family had a wonderful stay and we'd love to come back someday.
This house is very, very nice. It is very clean and comfortable. It has been updated so everything is new while still retaining an old farm house appeal. David was an excellent host!
Amazing place! Host - responsive, quick to reply, made sure we were situated and had what we needed.Home - Old farmhome restored with modern amentities. Lots of upgrades, but kept the old charm. Kitchen had all the utensils, quality pans and knives that actually cut! Everything felt very clean. Induction cooktop and stove that worked great. Main suite bed was super comfy with quality linens. Amenities - I think my husband liked the arcades more than my kids! Play station, xboxes, digital board games kept them entertained for a bit. We enjoyed walking the property with the dogs. Very peaceful setting. I'm an artist and I could see this being a really nice retreat for a writer or an artist. Gorgeous light coming through the dining room windows with great views of the sunrise and sunset. Easy access to main road to downtown Cape Charles in 15 minutes and local state park. Would for sure go back again!
House is beautiful. This rental is stocked with everything one needs. There are books to read and records to listen to. The game room is fun. Everything was very clean. It is pet friendly. We highly recommend this getaway to spend your vacation time in Cape Charles.
The ladybug is set up with everything you need for home away from home. Lots of things there to entertain all ages. The arcade room was a huge hit! Kitchen was well equipped for cooking and serving meals. The exercise room on the third floor was amazing and complete with a peloton. Itâs a quiet, peaceful setting, but itâs also an easy drive to several beaches, including Norfolk, Virginia Beach, and the local Cape Charles Beach.
We had a wonderful stay here! It was so nice to visit Cape Charles and then be able to drive back to our farmhouse for wide open space. Dave was very helpful! The house was set-up well. The beds were comfortable! We loved watching the sunset from the quiet of our front yard. This farmhouse is a gem and just what you are looking for if you need to get away, but still be close to the beach, shopping and restaurants!
We stayed at the Ladybug for our first trip to Cape Charles. The house is fantastic and has all the amenities that you could need! The area was beautiful and serene. There was so much for our family to do just in the house and the kiddos LOVED the arcade room! Our hosts were very friendly and super helpful and communicative with suggestions for what to do and where to eat in the area. We truly felt that they cared about making our stay the best it could be! Our only regret was that the sweet potato biscuits were sold out when we went to Sting Rays to try them. We highly recommended Cape Charles and The Ladybug!
This property was just what we needed. We needed a get away and this was perfect! Dave was a great host. His home was beautiful. We had everything we needed. The cape nearby was a great place to lay on the beach. The kids loved being able to get in the water with no waves. The home was in the country, but a close drive to the beach. The nearby State Park was also fantastic with only a $7 fee to enter. I would highly recommend this property and Dave as a host. Thanks again!
Thanks so much for the kind words đ Weâre happy to hear your family enjoyed many of the things we also love about the house and the surrounding area. Kiptopeke State Park is indeed a gem at $7 a day.
My spouse, our two dogs, and I stayed here for a little under a week and had a lovely time. We cooked most of our meals here and the kitchen was well stocked and had everything we needed. The rest of the house was exactly as pictured with plenty of TVs and board games to keep us entertained. We also took advantage of the chairs outside to enjoy the breeze and quiet. The bed was comfortable and the bathrooms were clean with plenty of towels and included body wash and shampoo if needed.
The house is "away" from busy areas, but a very short drive to the beach or parks. We really enjoyed our stay here and the dogs loved the surrounding area with wildlife wandering around.
Although very remote, the house is beautifully decorated and very comfortable for an age range of 4 to 84. Plenty of room for everyone! The nature hikes near the house provide spectacular views. The game room was a very big hit with everyone -- even our 4-year-old grandson. The only critique I have is that the kitchen is so well stocked, there's not much room to store the provision we brought with us. It was not a particular hardship, though. Just an observation. We hope to come back again sometime. Like I said, VERY comfortable accomodations, extremely clean, beautiful views near the house.
We stayed at this charming modernized farmhouse for 2 weeks. The house is between a stand of trees and farmland, and you can see the big open sky, which was great at sunset. No road noise. The house comes fully teched (âhey Googleâ) with fast wifi, and was very clean. Little touches â high quality bedding, a gameroom, a record collection, a workspace, were all welcome. The house is close to 3 nature areas â Magothy, where the trail winds ends up on the wide open coast, the Refuge which has some great features, and Kiptopeke with its bayside trail (Brown Pelican). Thereâs also a path nearby. We had bikes dropped off/picked up (Poseidon Watersports). Cape Charles is 10 mins up the highway, with some good restaurants (the hosts were fantastic with their recommendations), a lovely bayside beach â never a problem parking adjacent to the beach, or finding a spot on the beach, regardless of the day or time. You can go for the whole day or an hour. Farther up you've got Onancock with some restaurants (and awesome bakery), Island House Restaurant on the coast-side and other finds. And youâre really close to the Chesapeake Bay Bridge where you enjoy the views for 20 minutes and end up in Virginia Beach where you can do the boardwalk, Trader Joes, etc. and when youâre all done you get to go back to peace and quiet. I miss it already. The hosts were great with us, answered many questions and really wanted us to have a good vacation. I wish them well. Wonderful stay.
Dave has a longtime passion for the Eastern Shore of Virginia. He's explored the area waters on his fishing kayak for the better part of the last two decades. He's a longtime art director within the video game industry, and brings his love of games and interior design to the house as well. He's exceptionally proud of The Ladybug and looks forward to sharing this little slice of Virginia Eastern Shore heaven with you.
Located on Virginiaâs Eastern Shore on the coastal seaside of Cape Charles, The Ladybug farmhouse was originally built in 1908. It was lovingly restored and updated in 2018, featuring numerous modern amenities. It sits smack dab in the midst of scenic farmland, and in sight of the hiking-trail entrance for Magothy Bay Natural Preserve which is open daily to the public. This 445-acre preserve offers visitors two hiking trail options, including a 2-mile loop trail that meanders through shrub habitat (a former agricultural field restored to songbird habitat) and maritime forest. The trail then emerges onto a dike overlooking an extensive salt marsh and seaside lagoon with views of Smith and Mockhorn Islands. There is also a scenic view of the Cape Charles Lighthouse located on Smith Island.
10 minutes to the north of The Ladybug is downtown Cape Charles which Southern Living calls "The Best Little Beach Town In Virginia" and Baltimore Magazine proclaims is a "Best-Kept-Secret Beach Getaway". Visitors enjoy eclectic gourmet restaurants, a craft brewery, cidery and distillery, ice cream parlors, boutique shops, art galleries, an old-fashioned chocolatier and candy store, and more. Families love Cape Charlesâ spacious public beach, as the waters of the Chesapeake Bay are calm and shallow at this vast stretch of shoreline. And on top of all of that thereâs plenty of free parking for easy beach access.
Have dinner and drinks at the Shanty, voted a âBest Beach Bar in Americaâ by Menâs Journal, where you can enjoy local oysters and watch the sunset from the deck next to the Cape Charles harbor. A little farther north in Cape Charles, The Oyster Farm Seafood Eatery is a spacious, family-friendly restaurant with a casual vibe. Cape Charles Brewing Company also features local beers with outdoor games and picnic tables available.
And this is just scratching the surface as there's so much more we can't fit in under VRBO's 2000 word limit :-)
