Pawleys Island has been a vacation destination for over 250 years, yet continues retains its charm and casual character. Generations of families have come to this area for the refreshing sea air. The saltmarshes threaded with winding creeks and thrumming with the activity of sea birds, fish, and other local wildlife provide endless hours of enjoyment for photographers, boaters and fishers alike.

The Pawleys Island/Litchfield Beach area is known locally as the Waccamaw Neck. Pawleys Island, known for its “arrogantly shabby” character, encompasses Litchfield but has its own beach – and island – where it splits away from the south end of Litchfield Beach. The relaxing ebb and flow of the tide sets the pace of our Lowcountry coastal region of South Carolina where getting on Island Time comes naturally.

Only a few miles north is Brookgreen Gardens. It is also home to the only accredited zoo on the Carolina coast, where you will see rescued native animals in their natural habitats.

Myrtle Beach, only 20 miles north, and Charleston, 75 miles south, make great day trips. And for those who truly want to get away from it all, simply stake out a spot of your own on the beautiful Pawleys Island beach!
