We just love it here! The camp is perfect for us and lets us bring our dog. There's plenty of outdoor activities to do: swimming, kayaking, hiking, etc. Or just relaxing by the lake.
The camp was perfect for our family with 2 bedrooms, big gathering spaces and beautiful spacious lake front to enjoy! We enjoyed kayaking and swimming during the day and campfires in the fireplace at night.
Perfect location on the lake! We loved the big yard and access to the kayak! The place was immaculately clean and well appointed. We had such a great time there!
This is our second time staying at Shakey Jakes. It is a simple and clean place to stay in, with the most wonderful view. The owners are a delight and what a magical place to visit. The view is amazing!
Awesome vacation and we have the best spot on Willoughby lake. We enjoyed your placed and everything were wonderful and will will come back next year.
Thank you,
Minh&Guy Best
Shakey Jakes is an absolute gem. The private back yard was awesome. The cottage is very cozy and clean. Thank you for sharing your beautiful spot with us. Can't wait to come back next year!
The cottage is as neat as a pin. It is small but plays large with a good size living room. It has all the amenities you need. The views of the lake and mountains are spectacular. We will be back.
This lake cottage was charming in every way! My family and I were so lucky to spend two glorious weeks here. Despite some serious flooding in vermont before and during our stay, we were comfortable and happy the entire time.
Lake Willoughby is so beautiful, and the lakefront this property offered was private and spacious!
We had a few days a heavy rain so we ventured to the museum of everyday life and then to Parker pie in Glover for lunch- both shouldnât be missed!
Devaneyâs Produce stand and vintage shop is also a must do- we went there a few times for donut peaches, fresh strawberries, and vintage treasures. If youâd like a tour of the lake on a pontoon boat, give Fran a call (you can find her on Facebook). We had a delightful 90 minute boat tour around the lake which we all enjoyed.
But mostly, we hung at the cottage, swimming, paddle boarding, and kayaking.
The owners were kind and responsive to requests. We hope to return next year!!
Our family really enjoyed staying at your house. It is right on the lake and has beautiful views. I loved seeing the Loons and their babies every morning. Would highly recommend this property to stay at

What a fantastic place we discovered by booking this cottage! The cottage itself was roomier than expected and the yard and lot was superb! We spent mornings on the sun porch playing cards and drinking coffee and evenings in the backyard by the fire overlooking the lake. And Lake Willoughy itself was also wonderful - so clean and beautiful with mountains surrounding. This was our first trip to Vermont - we all loved it! Cannot wait to return. Especially loved the kayaks and paddle boards being onsite already. Hope to return to this exact cottage!
Shakey Jakes is a delightful retreat on the shore of Vermont's most beautiful lake. The cabin is clean and well-maintained and, although conveniently located on Route 5A, set far back enough from the road that noise from passing vehicles is unnoticeable. Others have described is many charms so I will focus on things I believe make it truly unique.
There's plenty of room. Between the large living room and bright, cheery sun room, both bedrooms have ample space unlike the closet-like quarters of typical cabins. Having that kind of indoor space is welcome when Willoughby's fickle weather throws a sudden, pop-up thunderstorm your way. The yard is SPECTACULAR. If a larger lot exists on the lake shore, I've never seen it. As I mentioned, the big front yard provides a great buffer from Route 5A. The back yard is expansive and flat, with an outdoor fireplace and an amazingly wide waterfront, resulting in a level of privacy unique to this popular lake. With the large boathouse, it takes about 30 seconds to launch your kayaks (we brought our own) on a whim.
Finally, Shakey Jakes is on a particularly warm part of the lake, making swimming more practical there than in some other parts of Willoughby's notoriously arctic waters :-)
Great experience, we'll be returning.
Stunning lake. Fall colors had started! Didn't have to go far for great hikes. Pisgah, Bald and Burke Mtn trails are incredible. Brownington Village is cool, too. About a mile from the cabin the Gas Pub and Grill was the place to be.
Mid Sept we had chilly evenings/mornings and the gas stove as wonderful as it is didn't heat the bedroom great. I didn't mind, I love sleeping in socks and a stocking cap if necessary but wanted to mention it for others. Next time I wanna come to Willoughby in July!!
Our stay was amazing, the property sits on a beautiful lot right on the water and is very private. We lucked out and everyday was perfect weather for fishing, boat rides and just hanging in the back yard taking in the lake and mountains. Couldn't have asked for anything to make it better ~ Thanks for sharing Darlene & Craig Ladabouche
Shakey Jake's is a marvelous place to stay on beautiful Lake Willoughby. The reservation process was seamless and the communication from Molly, the owner was so informative, we knew exactly what to expect when we arrived. But the camp exceeded our already high expectations.
The cottage is very spacious and was immaculate, well kept and well stocked with any food prep and household supplies we needed. What really blew us away was the property-more land than we have at home. The large back yard with its beautiful view makes it very private and quiet-very unique for Willoughby, which gets busy in the summer. There are two great bonus extras; are a cozy outdoor fireplace which is an inviting place to find Zen like relaxation and reflection in the cool of the evenings. There's also terrific boat house, which makes launching kayaks a snap. We paddled swam every day (the lake was warmer than we ever remember in our 16 years of visiting Willoughby). The exercise was important considering we visited a personal favorite, The Parker (pizza) Pie Company and the Lake store for ice cream.
We highly recommend Shakey Jakes and would love to make it our regular Willoughby destination.
