Great stay. Thank you so much for sharing your location for travelers. On a side note, we had a late arrival so the person that mustâve been taking that downstairs area kind of hogged the right side of the driveway. We were able to get our two cars in the left side of the driveway, but it was tight.
The location was wonderful. Having to walk up so many outside steps wasnât so great. I would suggest to guests to leave the outside motion sensor light switch on, buy a toaster for the kitchen, and put a double shower curtain on the shower, one on the side by the toilet and one for the end by the sink.
The bedroom walls were peeling. There was a lot of garbage out by the garage. The tree by the back/side entrance smacked you in the head every time you walked inâŠthe carpet was rancid with a dog pee smell! Just awful, couldnât sit on floor and we paid 150.00 for our small 3 pound dog that we kept crated. It was all in allAWFUL! Bathroom walls peeling too-NEVER AGAIN
Accommodations good butt no TOASTER, backyard too much dog poop, the yard was unkept, need screen for fire pit and clean chairs for fire pit. Otherwise a fun stay loved the privacy.
My husband and I enjoyed a weekend in Grand Haven. The house is perfect location, a quick easy 10 minute walk to downtown shops, restaurants, breweries, Grand Haven State Park and Chinook Pier. We walked everywhere! Loved the upper apartment, it was perfect for the two of us.
We enjoyed our stay in this upstairs apartment. We used the fire pit in the back yard and spent a rainy day "Netflix and chill" nice shops and beaches nearby too. You MUST see the singing fountains light show in town! And get a Pronto dog too! Could use some more yard lighting at night. Lots of stairs to navigate.
We were so excited to find a place in downtown Grand Haven at such a great price. We originally scheduled the stay for one day but decided to stay one more day. The communication with Jonathan before we arrived in grand Haven was quick and very helpful. When we got to the house we fell in love with the house, location, and fenced in yard. It was very clean inside and the setup was perfect for our family.
Overall we enjoyed our stay here! It was about a 15 minute walk to the downtown area and we didnât have to drive all weekend! We were able to walk to where ever we wanted to go. The check in process was very easy with a lock pad on the door and we were just given the code.Pros:- location location location! - more affordable than other places in the area- just enough space for my husband, myself, and our pup - check in process- communication with host- we had a question about our dog and they were quick to get back to us. Cons:- the bed is SO squeaky! Every time my husband or I moved an inch the bed would squeak very loudly. It made for some restless nights because we both would wake up often. My husband moved to the couch a couple nights. This could easily be fixed with a new bed frame - lack of privacy. The entryway door is glass. It made us uncomfortable because there were people staying in the downstairs unit so whenever they were in the backyard (shared space) they could see right in if they wanted. This could easily be fixed with hanging a curtain. There is also no door between the main bedroom and living room so anyone staying with more than 2 people would also lack privacy. Could be fixed with a curtain :)- the backyard isnât completely fenced in so we still had to keep our dog on a leash - the shower is very small because of how the layout is. If your over 5â 6â itâs going to be hard We would stay again, but there is some room for improvement!
We had to reset the circuit breaker upon check-in, but that was relatively minor and everything else was as it was listed. It's a nice place for one or two people, and in a good location that's close to a lot of restaurants and not far from the beach.
Visited Grand Haven for the weekend for Soccer in the Sand. This upstairs unit was perfect for my family of four. It was quite small but it fit our needs since we really only spent time there to sleep. Good location- 5 minute drive or so from the State Park. Owners were very responsive. I had not received the welcome text or email with the key code but it was just a quick call and I had all the info I needed.
Nice location, apartment was clean and tidy.
Note- must climb approx 20 narrow stairs to reach entrance.
Would be nice if there was a sidewalk/clear path to stairs.
Kitchen was decent, we improvised microwave and stovetop combination to "toast" some frozen waffles since we couldn't locate a toaster.
It would be nice to have sheets available for pullout in living room (to be fair, we didn't contact host to request them)
A curtain to create privacy in the bedroom would be useful too.
Overall, it was a great location for my family's weekend at the beach. Next time we will bring bikes and not bother trying to park downtown!
The place was newly renovated and sparkling clean! The location is convenient with easy provided parking. Our check out time changed after our booking was confirmed from 11 am to 10 am, so that didnât seem right to me. The property is not fenced in, which I was under the impression it was. A full length mirror on the bathroom door would be helpful, as the small one in the bathroom is the only mirror the quaint space. The place was as neat as a pin !
Owner responded quickly to clarify door of entry. 6 ants over the course of the stay were on the wall to be killed. Listing was fir 4 people, but only 2 bsth towels in bathroom. After a 20 linute shower, drain took 10 minutes to empty tub. AC worked well, but pilliws were
My mom and two teenage daughters and me were traveling and this was a good place to stop on our journey. The double bed and pillows were comfortable. The futon/pullout was not really meant for sleeping. There were not linens for the futon or pillow cases for the extra pillows. The double bed did have pillowcases and sheets. The keyless entry was smooth and worked as expected. The kitchen was small but adequate. It was not a full size fridge. But was a full size oven. It satisfied our needs for the evening and morning. The bathroom was really tight. We did not use the tub/shower due to it being so small. There were only towels for 2 people. Overall, we were happy with our stay, though very small, but a great use of an upstairs unit. The air conditioners worked well. It really is meant for only a single or couple to sleep in the bed.
Pros- for the most part clean. Towels and linens smelled fresh and clean.
Cons- location on busy road and not easy getting in and out. Needs some bush and tree trimming so you donât have to duck and weave getting to the stairs. The AC which is a portable unit in the small living space and a window unit in the bedroom. Neither of which was on when we arrived and it was hot out. Took a while for them to catch up. This is an attic made livable so it gets warm fast. The small refrigerator generates a lot heat so the kitchen remained pretty warm. The bedroom is tiny and the roof lines invade what space you do have. The bathroom is a closet with a shower toilet and sink jammed in it. Roof line also invaded the shower. If youâre over 5â5â youâre going to be doing yoga in there. Itâs a pretty good trek to get anywhere walking especially if youâre a little older. There are about 6 bikes in the garage which we were looking forward to. However, it took us a half hour of airing tires to find a couple of them that would hold air. We rode them down by the water and it was a nice little ride. Overall- would never stay here again.
When we arrived at 4pm, the house had not been cleaned yet. We had to leave and returned close to two hours later for it to be cleaned. We were offered nothing for our inconvenience.
During the evening the fuse blew while I was asleep and the kids thought the power went out and werent able to charge phone, watch TV and had no A/C. It wasn't until I woke up that I realized what happened.
We put on the reservation we had 4 guests. We were only supplied 2 towels and two wash cloths. We ended up having to use the beach towels we brought.
They charge a lofty cleaning fee but expect you to wash the dishes and load the dishwasher, remove bed linens and towels and put them in the laundry basket, along with taking the trash to the trash cans. I don't mind cleaning up after ourselves, but to be charge $90 and it wasn't even clean when we arrived.....
Michelle responded promptly by text (not by phone although I called twice) regarding the housekeeping issue. Jonathon responded about the towels at 8am to be dropped off that morning, but by that time we were all showered.
Weâve used Vrbo many times in the last decade and never had a problem with a reservation until this one. Upon arrival, we entered the property to find no linens and an unmade bed. When the property manager returned my call, he offered to put us in the lower unit of the premises, but said he needed to check his bookings to see if weâd need to move again. And we did. Both units occupy a refurbished home that is at least 100 years old, so there is only so much lipstick you can put on a pig. The floors are uneven, the window blinds are a wreck, there are electrical outlets that donât work, and there was no sink stopper for the bathroom sink. The bedroom is so small that you have to shuffle around the end of the bed to get from one side to the other. For all these deficiencies, however, the location of this property is its biggest issue. We lived in Grand Haven for thirty years before retiring, and Jackson Avenue is not a street you want to be located on during the summer months. Traffic will be unreal, with noise levels appropriate for the road every beach visitor from out of town will be using to get to the lake. If youâre looking for a relaxing vacation in a comfortable venue, this ainât it.
This review is for upper unit.
PROS:
1) Walking distance to downtown.
2) Reasonable price for Coast Guard week.
3) Room to park multiple vehicles.
4) Good size backyard.
CONS:
1) Living room furniture is not comfortable. You can feel the frames through the cushions.
2) Shower is on slanted roof line and very uncomfortable if you're over 5'5".
3) Bedroom is open to living room/no door or curtain
4) A/C units dont reach kitchen very well and it gets very warm. Definitely avoid using oven in summer.
5) It took 30 minutes to clean the filthy grill before we could even use it.
6) You have to walk over grass through a dark backyard to get to the unit at night.
7) Entry door is full glass, so no privacy and sun/heat blasts in.
8) Insufficient amount of hangers for a week stay.
9) Dingy towels, and one WHITE washcloth was almost completely dirt stained.
10) "Toys and games" consisted of a partial deck of cards, one matchbox car, and one partial box of 12 dominoes.
11) A/C units are very loud making it necessary to either blast TV or turn off the unit in the living room.
12) Pull out couch bed was very uncomfortable. Definitely would not recommend for anyone over 7 years old.
LISTING INACCURACIES:
1) Kitchen dining is for 2, not 4.
2) Only 3 sides of yard are fenced, not 4.
3) No kitchen island.
4) No dishwasher.
