Our overall stay was exactly what we were looking for- a tiny house for a tiny vacation away from home. The property was well equipped with everything we needed from the toiletries, kitchen, etc. As much as we enjoyed our stay and meeting the family- we didn't realize the spacing between the two cottages on the property.
We just loved our visit to this area, it was so peaceful with such beautiful views! We will echo what many others have said, our hosts were so generous with their time and sharing info about the area, and quickly helped with any issues that came up. As many have said this is an ideal location if you are looking for something off the beaten path. There are hardly any other tourists around - (just what we wanted!), but this does mean few services (only two restaurants that have limited days/hours and 1 small grocery). The cottage is right on the water on a very quiet dirt road, it is beautiful! This is an ideal spot if you have friends that also want to rent the second cottage right next door.
The stay was amazing. It was calm, quiet, & beautiful. The owners were responsive to questions in a timely manner. Questions were anwsered. Very polite and imformative. The place was clean & perfect. It was just what I needed to visit.
This place is near perfect for a nice relaxing vacation. Unfortunately weather was not cooperative with us so we had to leave earlier but otherwise it is a great stay. Tks Imri and Michael.
We had an amazing three day stay at Irmgardâs cottage on the water. The location was fabulous and exactly as advertised. The cabin was clean and comfortable with a gorgeous view that immediately felt so peaceful and relaxing. We saw bald eagles on the island opposite and one even flew over for a personal visit, settling on top of the tree right next to us!! The cabin was off the beaten track, but we appreciated the calm and tranquility and sheer beauty of the place. There was a well stocked general store up the road in Boylston, a must visit, and Guysborough also had a commercial area. We didnât try any local restaurants as we spent some time traveling to other areas of interest: Louisbourg to visit the amazing historical recreated fortress - well worth it but makes for quite a long day and Cape George for beautiful walks and gorgeous coastal views. Irmgard was a delightful person to deal with and went above and beyond to return an item that I had forgotten in the cottage; so very kind. Just a final note, tall people cannot stand up in the bedroom due to the low ceiling but it adds to the charm and cozy feel of the place. I highly endorse and recommend a stay here, you wonât be disappointed.
We loved our stay. So much natural beauty all around. If you want a peaceful stay just steps from the water, we highly recommend this fully equipped and cozy studio cottage. A nice paddle across the bay right into the Guysborough marina and a nice back road for walking or running or just enjoying the water views.
Wonderful hosts. We hope to return again!
We truly enjoyed our 4 night stay at Irmi and Michaelâs studio getaway. You could not ask for a more relaxing setting, sitting on the deck watching the ducks, geese, loons, osprey and even a seal. This was an ideal location as it gave us a chance to spend time with family members who we donât see very often. Looking at the reflection of the full moon on the mirror-like water is magical!!
Cute cabin for two about 20-30 feet from the shoreline. Loft bed was comfortable, breeze from the waters edge and the sound of lapping water on shore will lull you to sleep. Listening to the loons call and enjoying the sunsets will make you forget to pick up your cell phone...or even that you have one.
We rented for 12 days, and not one minute of out stay was lost, even during Ă 36 hours raining streak. The studio is charming and very comfortable. The view on the bay offers an everchanging landscape all day long. We had brought our kayaks, and we did 8 outings exploring the Bay towards Boylston as well as the passage to the larger part of the Chedabucto Bay. We also biked a bit. The whole way to Guysborough on the other side of the Bay is somewhat of an effort. Not necessarily for everyone. Glad to have done it (one way) however. We were lookimg for a quiet place to rest and we were very satisfied with the location for this purpose. We also wanted to have nearby trails and beaches. For that we had to move around a bit and explore the greater Eastern part of Antigonish and Guysborough County. We were flabergasted to end up twice completely alone on two provincial par Beaches. Shoreham is only 15 minutes away by car and has a view on the whole Chedabucto Bay. The beach is very natural, combining sand and rocks. Our favorite was however Torbay provincial beach. Perdect whitesand beach with little seaweed, and just the right balance of wave and safety of depth to have hours of fun !! No shade at all at both locations so plan for sunblock or parasol ! For trails, there are Ă few here and there. We ended up making an hour on the 50KM multimode trail starting in Guysborough. More for fatbike or Mountain bike though, for the path is quite rough. The best options of walking trails seem to have been around Cape George in Antigonish County, with outstanding view on Cape Breton Island. We loved visiting around. The Farmer marketing in Guysborough and the impressive quality of local artiste at the Marina art gallery. The Courthouse Museum with a wide collection attesting of the social fabric and history of Guysborough. We drĂŽle to Canso and discovered Ă vers vibrant community as the geared up for the annual Regata festival. We were there from August 12 to 26, and we were really astounded to get such "exclusivity" on the road as well as almost all places we visited. To conclude, you must visit Hart General Store in Boylston, this place is incomparable, we ended up going nearly everyday !
This was an outstanding summer vacation.
Had a lovely peaceful week here! The water is clear and steps from the door- gorgeous. Cottage is basic but has everything you need for a week. Would have been good to have a few 'things to do and where to go' details but we found them anyway. Plan to eat in- only one place to eat out in Guysborough unfortunately- but there's a good grocery store and liquor store. Check out Hart's store too- great stuff in there. Really recommend the cottage and the area for a quiet week!
This is a wonderful, quiet, small, and comfortable property with unbeatable views. It was perfect for our week of vacation in which we planned to do nothing at all. Michael and Irmi are gentle hosts and I am happy to recommend this place to others.
We thoroughly enjoyed our week at this charming cottage. Very private, quiet and breathtaking views.....Slept like a log listening to the waves lapping the beach. Would definitely stay here again......looking forward to next year that's for sure!!

The owners are wonderful people, kind and very helpful. Beautiful setting. Cottage is small but adequate. Two people max or two with a small child. No laundry or oven.
Our stay in Boylston/Guysborough was terrific. We were virtually incommunicado while there. It was just what the doctor ordered so to speak, but better than any prescribed medication!
The property comes as advertised. It is located on the water in a beautiful cove. When I arrived, the cottage was clean and neat. If you need information or have questions, Irmi and Michael are easy to reach. Across the harbor in Guysborough is a grocery store, restaurants, pharmacy and liquor store, all of which are about 15 minutes away. The cottage is perfect for 1-2 people. I found the location to be quiet and peaceful, making it a great spot to relax and unwind. I would definitely stay there again.
This adorable shingled cottage is small, but it had everything we needed for a wonderful stay. We took several day trips to explore the area, including Cape Breton Island where we drove the Cabot Trail one day and explored the beach at Point Michaud. We also enjoyed several meals in the area, including Big G's and the bakery in Guysborough and Big Mama's in Monastery. We spent lots of time on the deck enjoying the view of the water and the bald eagles that nested on the island in the middle of the bay. It was a great week!
This small cottage provided all a couple could ever want. It was comfortable, quiet and in a marvellous area of Nova Scotia. Being kayakers, it was paradise, since the water was five feet from the front of the cottage, and one could explore all the waterways and paddle for hours. Great place for hiking and biking.
The owners were very friendly and helpful.
Thanks to Irmgard and Michael for the fantastic opportunity to spend time in the cabin. The cabin has everything one needs to have a comfortable stay. We cooked almost every night and the kitchen had everything we needed. Although it doesn't have a stove, the small toaster oven was sufficient. If you are tall you might bang your head in the loft but I was fine. The bed was very comfortable too. The cabin is right on the water so we used the canoe provided and went fishing many times. One day we caught 35 fish, three varieties and had a great fish fry that night. Irmie and Michael were wonderful at getting anything we needed but also respectful of your privacy as well. The view was second lovely and from the loft at night you could see the moon reflecting on the water. Guysborough is a small town but has a great grocery store, pharmacy, Liquor Store, Hardware store, restaurant and bakery. Boylston is the closest hamlet and it also has a lovely little general store that has everything a convenience store has and more. Don't miss the opportunity to stay at this great place. Thanks again! We hope we can come back soon.
Welcoming host, cute, well appointed cottage in a beautiful location right on the water.
Stayed for 3 nights, cottage is perfect for one or two people. Has everything you might need. Loved the quiet location right on the water. Short drive to downtown Guysborough.
