The first thing we commented on was the very spacious living room with all of the beautiful windows. The space throughout the house was really nice and a little ups and down stairs added a quaint touch. We did have plenty of room to spread out which was great the nice big Back Fence yard was good for our dog and grandson
The âBarronâ is perfect for our family for the week of the 4th of July- we enjoyed Friendly Valley Beach, Cornucopia Beach, Little Girls Point at Saxon Harbor, Copper Falls State Park, Golfing, and The Oredock. Family breakfast and dinners and of course- Frankieâs Pizza! We topped it all off with the festivities of the 4th- the parade and a family reunion at the beach- The band shell for music and the fireworks! It was a Memory Maker for sure and this home is a perfect place for us to make it all happen!
We loved staying at âThe Baronâ. This historic home was a wonderful place for our family, which included six adults and two toddlers, to stay for our vacation to Lake Superior and the Apostle Islands. It is spacious and we had plenty of room to cook, dine and play games together. The bedrooms are quaint, and we having the fenced yard to hang out in was great. Mary was an amazing host! She was easy to communicate with and always immediately responded when we had any questions. We had a great time, and would love to return in the future.
Highly recommend staying here. Large fenced in yard to play in, too. Had everything we needed in kitchen. House itself is beautiful with panoramic windows. Beds were comfortable, quiet neighborhood, within walking distance to Lake Superior and downtown. The only thing I would change is the locking system on the doors. The kitchen door locked on us 3 times without us turning anything. Thankfully we put the spare key outside to get back in. Overall this was a fantastic place to stay!
Came to enjoy the snow mid-week. House was great, clean and well stocked. Location in the center of washburn was very convenient.
Loved having a fire in the fireplace.
We would stay there again.
Perfect for our trip with adult children. Enough space to not feel cramped, but cozy.
Home was well appointed and just as described. Fenced in yard and use of garage a huge bonus! Great communication from our host. The area is so lovely with many things to do and see.
We look forward to staying again.
Perfect place for our mini vacation. Lots of activities to close to this house. Kitchen had the basics and there were plenty of towels for the bathrooms. Host was very accommodating and easy to work with. We would return to this house if we vacation in the area again.
It was my son and I and 5 of his friends to celebrate my son's birthday. There was room for all of us. Check-in was easy. Place was clean and more than comfortable. Nice big backyard. Guys had fun playing spike ball. Would recommend this place to any heading up to visit Apostle Islands.
Wonderful, roomy house with more than sufficient, comfortable space for the 7 of us. Mary was wonderful. We would love to come back and stay again. Extremely clean AND with 2 1/2 baths! Thanks, Mary.
Unique older home; clean with updated kitchen and bathrooms. Right on ATV route in Washburn which was great for using our side by side. Host Mary was friendly and easy to reach. Definitely recommend.
The house worked well for our "Core Four" family: Mom, Dad, and two adult daughters. Each of us had our own space, and the dining room was a lovely place to have a couple of family meals. We especially loved the outdoor fireplace area where we roasted hot dogs, made s'mores, and had a singalong around the fire. Our border collie loved the big yard!
The house is a beautiful old home that has a combination of old charm and modern conveniences. The interior was very comfortable and the backyard was great for a family cookout and volleyball game. The location is in a wonderful small town close to many activities. We picked blueberries, went to the County Fair, hiked Houghton Falls, saw a show at the Big Top, disc golfed in Ashland, took a ferry to Madeline Island, spent afternoons on the beach with the unbelievably clear water of Lake Superior and enjoyed the shops and restaurants in Bayfield. Mary was responsive and helpful when we had questions.
Beautiful historic home in the equally historic city of Washburn WI on the shores of Lake Superior. From the timeless brick fireplaces in the main living room and the primary bedroom to the quiet reading space at the rear of the house to the modern appointments and amenities of the remodeled kitchen, this home was the perfect long weekend get away for us! There is also a wonderful outdoor gathering space with a fire pit, though the weather during our visit did not allow for itâs use. The location is close to dining establishments and the outdoor activities this area has to offer. Looking forward to staying here again.
We absolutely loved staying here! The house is even more beautiful than the pictures, with hardwood floors, high ceilings, and a wonderful great room with a working, cozy fireplace stocked with wood. There was plenty of room for 3 couples and two singletons. Kitchen is well-stocked, and Mary was a dream to work with. Although we came to ski, Houghton Falls hiking trail, South Shore Brewery, and The Snug with live music were all minutes away. Oh yeah, and that one lake. Yard is fenced in for our dogs! What a bonus! Couldn't ask for a better place to stay.
We were the first official overnight guests. We stayed 2 nights and did the Book Across the Bay from Ashland and the Bike Across the Bay from Washburn as well as watching the sled dog race in Iron River. The house was awesome and we enjoyed wood fires both evenings. Made breakfasts in the kitchen. Nice to have refrigerator, coffee maker, dishwasher, microwave and stove. Awesome house and experience and location. Only other comments would be that beds were hard and that there should be wastebaskets and in the bathrooms. Thanks!
Tim is a local building contractor who grew up in Washburn. He says he always admired this house growing up. Mary grew up in Minneapolis and has a penchant for older, well built and charming houses. They live 3 miles away (in another historic home,) so can be available for questions or any urgent needs.
This home will captivate you when you walk in the front door. You are greeted by a grand stairway with traditional formal dining room to the left and a spacious living room to the right. The living area is perfect for sitting by the fire, building a jig saw puzzle or watching your favorite football team win on a Sunday afternoon. Kitchen was remodeled in 2022. Upstairs you will find an elegant owners' suite with a queen sized bed. Bedroom 2 with a queen and bedroom 3 has a twin. Additional bedroom with a queen bed on the mezzanine level off of the kitchen area. There is a full bath with laundry up, and a half bath with shower down, and a powder room off the kitchen. There is a very large back entry which can be used for recreational gear, drinks overlooking the backyard, or morning yoga.
This property is the best of both worlds. Close enough to the water, and snowmobile trails, but with a quiet, neighborhood feel. Located just a couple blocks from Bayfield Street, there is a newly updated, family friendly playground and tennis courts. There is a Cultural Center and bookstore steps away. Washburn has some of the best fine art galleries in the area, the the Great Lakes Visitors Center is 6 miles away, and the Town of Bayfield just a 12 minute drive.
