Cozy cabin in wooded neighborhood - perfect Fall location

Welcome to the Scout house! This family friendly chalet in located a residential area in the woods and is just moments from Otsego Lake, downtown dining, two ski resorts, and several golf courses!

The thoughtfully updated chalet is full of nostalgic sleepaway camp vibes to inspire the explorer within you. The large deck wraps around three sides of the cabin and is the perfect place to unwind in the evening. After dinner, gather around the fire pit to roast s'mores and tell wild stories.

Inside, you can warm up by the gas fireplace. We have a cozy living area with plenty of seating and space to curl up with a good book or the remote to the television. The large dining table is great for game nights, and our growing collection of vinyl records add to the fun.

The Scout House has a galley kitchen with a large fridge/freezer, dishwasher, oven/stove, microwave and several small appliances. There are three bedrooms and two bathrooms. The largest bedroom has a queen bed and private bathroom. The other two bedrooms have full size beds. There is a desk in one of the bedrooms for those who need to work or study during the stay. A stacked washer and dryer are also available for your use.

With hiking/biking/snowmobiling trails nearby, several lakes to explore, wildlife viewing from the deck, and numerous outdoor adventures within a one hour drive, The Scout House is your cheerful home base for your Up North getaway!

Great winter retreat

Returned again this year and enjoyed another long weekend up north. Love that we can bring our dog and that there's a place to sled nearby. Always very clean, no artificial air fresheners, well stocked kitchen. Our family enjoyed time together away from school and work. Hoping to return again in the future.

We had a great stay

The house was clean and comfortable. Everything was comfortable, and the gas fireplace was a nice touch. It brought the place up to a comfortable temperature quickly. The roads in the neighborhood are twisty and windy, so be sure to have your phone or a GPS for navigation!

Nice place

We stayed in January 2023 for a weekend. Everything was great except the very hard beds and uncomfortable couch. We were out most of the time and it wasn’t an extended stay so it wasn’t a deal breaker. We’d stay again for a short stay. Everyone is different. If you like a firm mattress, this is the place 4 you..lol

Adequate Accommodations

Furniture is outdated and not very comfortable. House was very clean on the inside. The outside needs some TLC. Nice fenced in yard, however, the yard needs cleaned up. It’s in a beautiful location in Michaywe so that was a positive. We would rent there again provided there were modest upgrades done. Thank you.

Thank you for the feedback. Our property is advertised as a throwback to vintage summer camp and the furniture reflects that. We've had great feedback from guests about the comfort of the furniture and their enjoyment of the property, and appreciate that these aren't your preferences. Fun Family Getaway

What a great place to stay! The owners obviously put much thought and care into decorating and furnishing this little cabin. It has has a fun retro vibe which we all enjoyed. It's not a large home, yet it had everything we needed for a 4 day family getaway. The 3 bedrooms were all adequately sized and the 2 bathrooms worked out well for our family of 5. Michawaye is a lovely wooded community and we enjoyed seeing deer and other wildlife, yet we were close to downtown Gaylord where we found some great locally owned restaurants and shops. We also enjoyed boating and visiting the beach at the Otsego Lake Park, just a short drive from the cabin. We were captivated by the Parks board game, which the owners had available for us to use. We spent several hours playing it and it is definitely on our Christmas wish list. The round dining table was perfect for both games and meals. There are only 4 chairs around the table, but we used one from the desk in one of the bedrooms. If you have 6 people, you'd have a problem though. A folding chair or two would come in handy for that situation. Likewise, the table on the deck only had 4 chairs. Our only real complaints are a shortage of drinking glasses (I think there were 3 small and 3 larger glasses) and a very dull vegetable parer. Other than that, we loved everything about this property and would definitely love to return!

Perfect for us!

We stayed at the Scout House for 4 nights. The owners provided great communication and answered all of my questions promptly. The neighborhood was beautiful. We had a doe in the front yard on the first day and on the second day a group of wild turkeys. We are very happy that we did not choose to stay at a hotel. We loved the home away from home atmosphere. We would definitely stay here again.

Restful Get-Away

This property is just perfect for a restful stay in Northern Michigan. It has plenty of room, things are logically placed, and is clean and bright. Very little traffic on its blacktop road. We had deer visit us every day.

Great winter weekend getaway

We enjoyed the cleanliness of the house and that we could bring our dog with us! The kitchen was well stocked, the bathroom water pressure was great, and the rooms were cozy. We also enjoyed playing in the snow and sledding on a local hill recommended by the owner. Would love to return to the property some day!

Cute, clean, close

Close to Hartwick Pines and trails. Quiet neighborhood. Toasty fire place. Hosts easy to contact. Not deluxe, very nice for the price.
