The Gathering Place is the entire second floor of our Amish Farmhouse. It consists of 3 bedrooms, living room, full bath, and access to the full kitchen, dining room and porches. We are1 mile from Berlin.
Positively, we appreciated the location of the house to the surrounding community. Once the home was fully secured we enjoyed opportunity to relax and spread out. Negatively, the listing of this Vbro has the label "entire house" above the title of "The Gathering Place at Traveler's loft". It would be more accurate to describe this listing as "The Gathering place" is the second floor of a house with access to a SHARED kitchen and dining room space with seperate listing on the first floor. Also, while each bedroom upstairs has a lock for each room the 2nd floor is not able to be locked/blocked from the first floor and you share the entry way. With all of our children under 6, we felt uncomfortable and vulnerable not being able to secure the level. Our alternative was having the children locking themselves in their room with no key to open their rooms if they couldn't turn the lock back. We did immediately reach out to the owner, via a call. At that time she had no renter on the 1st floor but committed to moving them to another building on site if one tried to book. Later via text, she did a 180 turn saying it was our or vrbo's fault for misunderstanding. That we could NOW secure the 1st floor for a discounted rate during our stay. We paid the money for the piece of mind. The added disappointment was the 1st floor wasn't cleaned after the last renter. There were used towels on the bathroom floor and the bed unmade.
To start - I donât think this was an owner issue, but a VRBO issue. I booked this property. I received a message that I would hear from the owner within 24hrs to confirm. Well within the 24hrs I received a message from the owner saying the property was already booked followed shortly by a message saying my booking was confirmed. My card was charged, so I took for granted that everything was good to go. About four days before our trip, I reached out to the owner just to confirm everything, and she said the property was NOT available. I explained my card had been charged and she offered another place on the same property - a barndominium. There were no other VRBO properties available for the number of people I was traveling with, in the area we wanted, so I booked the barndo. The owner was very helpful and charged me the same price that had already been charged to my card for the other property (although the difference was only $10). The barndo was very âwarehouse-yâ but we were only there for one night. Beds were comfy. Heating system was a ceiling mounted, loud industrial heater. One bedroom only, with a second âbedroomâ in the open space (living room, kitchen) partitioned off by several doors connected together to make a wall - but no privacy or quiet since the doors/wall was open above to the ceiling.
The owner was very helpful with the somewhat clunky check-in, and was very responsive to calls. If youâre going for rustic and community living, this is the place for you.
