Beautiful, lakefront home for all seasons

We try to provide a wonderful rental experience for our guests, and up until this review, our guests have been uniformly pleased with us and our home. We are disappointed and surprised to see this review, and we believe it is unwarranted. We wish you had reached out to us at any point – during or after your stay – to address these purported issues. Curiously, we did not hear from you until this scathing review. Maine is warm in the summer months, and we specifically mentioned to you, prior to your arrival, that we do not have air conditioning (which is also apparent from our VRBO listing). We also made clear that the garage may be buggy and muggy because there are no screens. (But for the record, there are no “bed bugs” in the garage or in our home, which has been confirmed with pest control.) We understand that you disagree with our reaction to the significant damage you left in and around our home (including but not limited to permanent marker scribbled all over our kitchen table (which sadly we are unable to remove), white paint/marker drawn on the leather couch, a toilet seat completely detached from its base, missing items, and trash littered throughout the home and in the lake area). The trash issue in particular demonstrates a clear lack of respect, not only for our home, but for the surrounding environment. I appreciate that you have and will continue to stay at other properties in this region. We hope the way you treated our home was a one-off incident and that you will not treat others this way going forward. We look forward to renting our home to respectful renters who are not inclined to trash our home and our wonderful lakefront. Finally, we did not levy “huge fines” and retained only half of the security deposit. This was more than fair in light of the significant damage you left behind. But of course we would have been pleased to discuss it with you if you had given us the courtesy of a return phone call, email, or VRBO message. We are always open and receptive to guest feedback to ensure positive experiences for our guests.
