Wonderful spot right in the heart of Ouray. Well appointed (nicer cookware than my house for sure!), comfortable, with communicative hosts. It's not if but when I will stay here next time in town.
We all loved this place! It was a great location to explore the town! So much to do. And After a day of adventure, we would come back and relax. We didnât need much, but when we did the host, Molly was great and very helpful! We definitely didnât want to leave!! Wish we could have stayed longer! We will be back again!!
Great 2 night stay, perfect cozy, clean and comfortable accommodations for us and our dog! Hosts were very attentive to answer our questions! We loved being able to walk to town and take part in the many fabulous hikes in the area. Look forward to returning! Thank you!
We loved our stay at the Cabin, it is quaint, cozy and clean.
The modeling is very nicely done and the new bed is really comfortable.
Ryan and Kizzy are great host and very knowledgeable about Ouray. We felt right at home.
Thank you Ryan, we look forward to coming back next year!
The cabin/apartment was very nice and cozy.
It was very clean. It was really nice being able to park our Jeep next to the apartment between the house and the garage. We felt much more secure with it parked there.
The owner was very nice and shared his experience with the trails around us that we were getting ready to explore.
We really liked having the kitchenette so that we could put together our lunches for while we were on the trail. Also saving some money by eating in acouple of nights.
The only complaint that I would have, is that the livingroom futon was not very comfortable after a long day of wheeling the backroads.
But it was all well worth the money spent.
Place was clean, cozy, convenient to all amenties.
Only minus was an electrical heater that must've been warped and would knock off and on during the night. Loud enough to disturb my sleep. But all in all Very Good. Fix it and I'll be back next year!
The pics accurately represented the property. The owner was always responsive to our questions. The cabin and neighborhood is quiet and quaint. Ideal for two people but we had our teenage son who stayed on the futon and it worked out well. We also had our 2 labs, which we appreciated the homeowner being pet friendly. We were able to cook most meals in the cabin and there were enough kitchen items to make that doable. It was clean and had everything we needed. The caretaker was very friendly and accommodating. He checked in a couple times to make sure everything was good. We were fortunate to find this rental during the FJ Summit. It was the perfect spot right in town to do all the things we were there for. Thank you!
Great unit and host! But heads up on the noise next door...
We really loved Ouray. This property is as advertised and the hosts are wonderful to communicate with, thoughtful, and easy going. This is a perfect location to downtown and has easy access to trails.
The only thing to caution future guests about: the property right next door holds outdoor events. There were weddings on both Friday and Saturday nights - loud speakers / DJ / partying guests. Inside the VRBO with windows closed, fan on, sound machine on, and ear plugs in you can still hear every single song blasting into the unit. For how wonderful the host & unit is, itâs too bad the city of Ouray allows such disruptive events in a residential area. I would check to make sure there wonât be events the nights youâre staying or be okay with not being in the unit from about 5-11pm.
Itâs definitely within walking distance. Quiet spot off Main Street. Could be great with a perhaps a couple deck chairs in the secluded grass area in back. Would stay there again.
The cabin is very clean and the bed is genuinely comfortable, great pillows! However, the wifi was only 2 Mbps (Netflix requires 5 Mbps minimum to stream) and it was difficult to maintain connection to the network. The kitchen was poorly supplied, specifically missing measuring cups, a full size cutting board, and a large bowl for serving. The basics of a few plates and small bowls were there though. The host was quick to answer questions and helpful in responses.
The owners are extremely helpful. The kitchen has new ceramic lined pans and corning dishware. It could use a cutting board and colander. The king size bed is very comfortable. Needed instructions on how to operate the shower. My husband is a contractor and have never seen one of these. The sofa in living room is EXTREMELY
uncomfortable to sit on and keeps sliding. Never used as a bed. Two burners on the stove were broken and the oven needs cleaning.
I booked this place for my mom and her husband, wanting clean and affordable lodging for them near the 4J campground, where my husband and I were staying. The cabin was absolutely perfect, and they enjoyed their stay immensely. It is a quick walk to town, the campground, the river, hiking trails, shops, restaurants - everything! The host was super nice. She even contacted me after our trip to let me know she had found a pair of (my mom's) earrings after they had left, and mailed them to my mom, who lives on the East Coast. Very honest and kind.
This place was exactly what we were looking for: a clean, comfortable cabin for my girlfriend and I and our two dogs, that was also walkable to downtown. It's only three blocks from the main drag, meaning you can truly park your car and forget it about until it's time to leave. But it's also tucked away enough that it was quiet and peaceful at night. Ryan is the consummate host and did everything possible to make our stay as good as it could be. She truly went above and beyond. And Ouray speaks for itself; it's an amazing town with so much to do in and around town. We can't wait to come back to the Chalet and Ouray again!
Overall this is a great value. Clean, great location, dog friendly. Just needs a few basic additions. Two coffee cups instead of one. Shampoo. An iron to go with the ironing board in the closet. Otherwise we liked it!
My husband and I stayed in the lower king room of the San Juan Chalet. As others before us have reported, this is a most perfect spot if spending time in Ouray. The room was spotless, comfortable, quiet and a convenient walk to anywhere in town.
We enjoyed several restaurants in town, Brew Pub, Irish Pub, Buen Tiempo and the heartiest breakfast ever at Back Street Cafe!
Our favorite highlight of the stay was walking the entire Perimeter Trail. We suggest starting at the visitor's center for the best views of mountains and town.
We were here over the Easter holiday so the town was very quiet but we thoroughly enjoyed it's peacefulness.
Thank you, Ryan, (and Rebecca), for sharing this lovely space!

Great little cabin right in town. Ryan was so welcoming and helpful, she made us feel right at home. It was great to just park the car in the private drive and leave it. Restaurants, fabulous hiking, beautiful scenery, short walk to the hot springs and a dog friendly place were just what we wanted! We come down once or twice a year and it's so great to find a place that we love and that we can come back to year after year. This place had it all, it was comfortable and reasonably priced!! The cute cabin had everything. A full kitchen, comfy bed, a nice little yard and great shower. We cannot wait to come back.
My husband, two year old daughter, and I stayed in the lower king room in early October for a quick fall color getaway. Being vacation rental owners ourselves, we were pleasantly impressed with the accommodations. The room was nice sized, very clean, tastefully furnished, and the bed was very comfortable! We can't wait to come back and hope to rent the cabin sometime as well! Thanks, Ryan, for a fantastic weekend in Ouray!

Before settling on Ouray in 2001, I worked for the Black Canyon Ntl Park and the USFS around Montrose and Ouray. Since 2004 my husband Clint and I have ran and owned San Juan Mountain Guides, LLC for 10 years. We love Ouray! There is so much to do here, ski, ice climb, hike, jeep, biking, rock climbing, history, art, and more!
