If relaxing indoors is more your speed, spend the day lounging in the 4 season room that overlooks miles and miles of unobstructed views of Lake Superior. Lake Muskallonge is a short walk from the property and boasts terrific inland fishing, boating and much more! Grand Marais, MI is a short drive 18 miles west and is the eastern Gateway to Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. The North Country Trail is accessible from the beach for endless miles of hiking or go fishing in the famous Two Hearted River. Trail maps are available in the house or download AllTrails app. Bring your clubs for golfing at beautiful Newberry Country Club. A stay at Captain's Hideaway will truly refuel your soul and provide unparalleled memories for years to come.

Perfect for a Thanksgiving trip with family

We stayed at Captain's Hideaway for three nights. It was a Thanksgiving trip for our family. The location, with impressive views of Lake Superior, and the house itself are super! It is a comfortable, well-stocked, and remote house. We had a winter snowstorm and some power outages, but with the generator that takes over automatically, we had no problem at all. Communicating with Elyse (the host) was super easy. We hope to come back one day!

wonderful retreat

Captian's Hideaway is in a quiet, somewhat secluded loacation overlooking Lake Superior. The house is spacious, well laid out, clean, and very inviting. The kitchen and bathrooms were very well stocked. We loved the lake view and easy walk to the beach. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Love our stay, the views and setup were amazing. The house has plenty of room, supplies, and parking. The beach views and solitude of the area were perfect. We saw the Northern lights every night and the fire on the beach was the added perfect touch. Would highly recommend going back.

Wonderful beachfront home

We had a wonderful stay with our two adult kids. The house was perfect! Every detail had been thought of and was very clean and comfortable. The views were spectacular-even saw the northern lights over the lake twice! It was our first time staying in the UP and we were able to easily drive to all the places we wanted to visit from this location. We had a fantastic vacation in this home! Thank you for hosting us!

Excellent location

This was a perfect place to unplug. It was quiet and you can't beat the location right on Lake Superior! On nice days we built a fire right on the beach, and the 3 season room was the perfect way to enjoy the lake during a rainy day. Centrally located between many poplar UP sites with Whitefish point and Pictured Rocks only about 1.5 hrs in opposite directions and Tahquamenon Falls only about an hr.

The Captain's Hideaway is a beautiful, spacious property on Lake Superior. We really enjoyed our stay. The host was wonderful, too - there were so many small but unexpected things were included (coffee pods, fully stocked bathrooms, firewood, board games, etc.). We would love to stay here again!

Beautiful home, a little chilly so only a couple walks on the beach. Our favorite room is the enclosed porch. One stormy day to watch all of the waves crashing and two amazing starry nights! No and/or very little cell phone service at the house but a cell phone tower a few miles down the road. Quick response time from Host.

Superior Waterfront

I never imagined it possible to walk the beach of Lake Superior in March but this year’s unusually warm temps allowed us to rent this home at the first of March and actually collect numerous rocks. Because of the time of year it was quiet as we saw only one person on the beach. I imagine the summers being more active with beachcombers and kids but for us the solitude was welcomed. The house had everything you’d need, was clean and very comfortable. I enjoyed just sitting on the front porch doing nothing. Although a 4 bedroom home was a little overkill for the 2 of us it would be great place to return with the grandkids. I’m hoping I can one day make that happen. Elyse was always quick to answer our questions. I would definitely recommend and stay here again.

Very nice place. We found it a great location, as many of the sites we wanted to see were across the whole top half of the UP, and from here we were in the middle. The house is a good size, with a great view of the lake, and the lovely sound of the waves coming in. They had some extras; information on the sites, an extra tank of gas for the grill if needed, wood, flashlights, etc. As mentioned by others, you need to visit the Uglyfish Baking for treats, trust me, you are going to fly by it, as it is not on the map, but it is well worth it. Great fall colors this time of year (Oct 9th) and not a lot of people. Hit up a little spot called Pretty Lake, an easy path to take as it rounds several lakes. Like other spots, be prepared to hit up some dirt roads. But it is worth it to get away from some of the busier sites. Prepare your trips, screen save maps etc. Cell service is very spotty as you travel up here, and we found both our phones GPS to keep up if we didn’t have the area saved.

Lovely home with a great view of Lake Superior. I took my staff of 3 gals for a retreat and it was the perfect spot for that. Beds we’re comfortable and kitchen well stocked. The homeowners were so kind in all communications. I highly recommend this property!

Gorgeous view and comfy beds

Beautiful home up on the bluff overlooking the lake. House was spacious and clean with comfortable beds and furniture. Kitchen was well stocked with plenty of pots/pans/spices. Loved the all season room overlooking the beach, as you can hear and see the waves crashing below. Watched freighters, saw eagles and rock picked ( as the beach has tons of rocks). Neighborhood is very quiet. We visited the Deer Park store and Uglyfish Baking for treats and a little shopping. The house was perfect for our vacation. Our elderly Mother was able to navigate the steps to the beach where there were comfortable chairs to sit and enjoy the peacefulness. We had windy conditions one day and got to enjoy some crashing waves. Only saw a handful of people on the beach all week. Highly recommend this house!! Thank you for sharing your home with us.

Lovely stay

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this property. The beach is wonderful as is the privacy. Even with knee issues, the stairs to the beach were not a hindrance. Being able to hear the waves and feel the lake breeze through open windows was absolutely refreshing for us Tennesseans. Beds were quite comfortable. We cook our meals, and found the grocery in Newberry quite adequate, as was the kitchen at the property. Manager/owner quickly responded to our inquiries. A good place to relax and rejuvenate!

Relaxation to the max!

This house was beautiful and peaceful! The beach was amazing! The lake was a little rough but still was able to rockhound. The uglyfish bakery was amazing! This is a great place to relax and get away from it all. Be prepared to loose your phone and not want to find it at all! Will definitely be back!

Captain’s Hideaway is a dream come true. The UP is amazing for all outdoor activities. From scuba diving to shooting. Close to exciting activities such as Oswald’s Bear Ranch. Walk to Muskallonge State Park, a good place for moose sightings. So many amazing day trips such as Tahquamenon Falls, Pictured Rocks or Mackinac Island. The North Country Trail, the longest in the National Trail System stretching 4,700 miles from North Dakota to Vermont runs along the back of the property. 30 minute drive to Newberry Country Club for golf& dining. You can make a bonfire on the beach at night while searching for agates and Yooperlites. We hope you enjoy this home as much as we do. Do not hesitate to contact any of us with questions.
