This unique hilltop property is located 5 mins from Frederiksted Town, so you have the easy convenience of being close but far. Commanding 180 degree plus breathtaking views on a private 400 square foot porch overlooking the town of Frederiksted, surrounding hills, Caribbean sea and National Wildlife Refuge at Sandy Point. Quiet and restful. Access to over 20 beaches within 1-2 miles, great snorkeling, close to dive shops, seasonal turtle watching, jet skiing, horseback riding, close to the rainforest and the boating community.

Caribbean Tradewinds blow east to west- the house is positioned in an east-west direction and has glass, screened, louvered windows and doors providing constant airflow- you can feel the breeze in the house- no need for air conditioning. In addition, the vacation unit has 10 ceiling fans-including bathrooms. Benefits are clear: access to cleaner air, better sleep surrounded by nature's sounds.

Got all that you need...and then some

We've been staying in short-term rentals for several decades and this is the best stocked and most livable one we have ever encountered. You get comfort, practicality, and loving homage to the island. The host truly cares and anticipates needs. We look forward to staying here many more times in the future.

Beautiful view and attentive hosts

The hosts were very attentive and responsive. The home itself has a local vibe and reflects the architecture common on of the hillside houses on the island. The views down across the island and out to the ocean was breathtaking. The house itself is a short 6-7 minute ride from the main restaurants in Frederiksted, but you definitely need a car as you are in an area with a lot of privacy. I would stay again if in St Croix.

Fabulous vacation stay

To say that this property was fantastic is an understatement. Not only was it large, well-appointed and extremely comfortable,but the balcony/veranda was wonderful, with a magnificent view of Frederiksted and the Caribbean. We spent a lot of time just relaxing out there, including all our at-home meals, treated to views of the surrounding countryside and wildlife such as egrets, hummingbirds and hawks. Robin and Michael are very responsive hosts as well as fine people, and we felt we made two new friends. Had we been able to do so, we'd still be there. We can't recommend Carmen's Rest highly enough.

Wonderful Island Scuba Diving trip!

My friend and I had the most amazing time in St. Croix and Robin and Michael were amazing hosts! We arrived late in the evening and they were kind enough enough to guide us into the property (online maps are not so great - especially late at night). Beautiful property with everything you can impagine for your stay and so well equipped! Everything about our stay was perfect and the views are just out of this world on the lovely patio. The location is about a 7 minute drive to downtown where our dive shop was located so it was perfect! Thank You Robin and Michael! Can't wait to return! Christine

What a fantastic place to spend a week or two. We chose two weeks and look forward to returning. Robin & Michael are fantastic hosts. They made sure we felt welcome to take full advantage of all the amenities and helpful to find things we needed. The apartment is very well furnished and has great views. The apartment comfortably handles 2 couples plus, but this trip was just my daughter and me. Due to some dietary issues, we cooked a lot of our own meals. (The restaurants we ate at were all fantastic). Getting to grocery stores was not a huge issue, although a car is needed. The kitchen has all the basics you need plus a lot of spices, oils, and other general things you would keep in your own cabinets or refrigerator. I lived on St. Croix for 5 years around 1990 but never spent a lot of time staying in Frederiksted. Now, I am glad I did. I am accustomed to sleeping with the windows opened and being serenaded all night by roosters and dogs. Not so at Carmen's Rest: the nights were very peaceful. Not even any sirens, more common in the Christiansted area. My daughter wanted to do a lot of diving while here. Many of the dive operators now focus on Frederiksted. Getting there was about 10 minutes door to door, including finding parking. Be sure to get the precise directions to the location. While it is easy to locate and easy and safe parking right out front, St. Croix roads are not signed super well and Google maps are currently inaccurate.

A home away from home

A recent trip to St.Croix was especially made pleasant by our host Robin at The Estate La Grange. Her genuinely warm welcome made us instantly feel at home. She is a thoughtful, gracious, and professional hostess, who provided our every need, and went the extra mile to ensure we were comfortable. Our accommodation was spacious, fresh and clean with a breathtaking view of mountains and the ocean. An unforgettable experience I highly recommend.

The property was one of the best places I’ve stayed at. The view was amazing, the host was great and full of information. I was worried because there was no air conditioning, but the house was high on the hill got great air circulation. The house was clean and had plenty of room, and was 5 minutes from the beach. We couldn’t have asked for a better host and the location was just amazing. The house was everything and more.

Robin is a retired educator, and has worked in the public schools here on St. Croix for 10 years. She was a Broadcast Producer for many years as well. Michael has a 20 plus year career in photography and has considerable experience and knowledge in the building and real estate industry. Together they have 3 adult children: 35, 32 and 28.
After raising their children, we were anxious to return to St. Croix to realize building Carmen’s Rest, which is named after our maternal grandmother born here in Frederiksted.

Pourquoi avoir choisi cet hébergement ?

The Joneses like simple lines, a residence which reflects the cultural details of St. Croix. The space is open, airy with 20 windows, and positioned to take advantage of the trade winds keeping the house cool and taking advantage of the views.

Quels sont les atouts de cet hébergement ?


This La Grange property was bought in 1983 to ensure our family would have a homestead to return to in St. Croix. Our earliest ancestors were born here in 1838. This is a new construction, we began in 2015, were severely hit by Hurricane Maria and were able to rebuild from the damage upstairs. The downstairs unit suffered flooding but no damage.

The Tranberg/Browne/Heyliger, and the Durant Families are long-time Frederiksteders. The Browne’s lived on the Prosperity Estate, the Tranberg’s Estate Mount Washington and the Durant’s builders of the well-known Durant Tower- now burnt down to the ground. Together. Robin’s maternal grandparents once owned 11 properties in Frederiksted.
