Driftwood Beach House-Horizon Suite: Oceanfront Luxury on the Sunshine Coast
Escape to the Horizon Suite, an oceanfront retreat where all you hear is the sound of the waves. Just a 35-minute ferry ride from Vancouver, this coastal getaway offers the perfect blend of comfort, space, and serenity.
Your Space: With approximately 2,400 square feet of open, light-filled living space, the Horizon Suite sleeps 8 with 3 bedrooms, 4 beds, and 3.5 bathrooms—plenty of room to gather, relax, and unwind. Enjoy our spacious living room, a large ocean-view deck, and everything you need for a perfect getaway
Outdoor living is effortless with a natural gas firepit, Broil-King barbecue and two infrared patio heaters for year-round enjoyment. Inside, a fully equipped kitchen awaits, complete with a blender, food processor, slow cooker, microwave, mixer, and every pot and pan you could need for family dinners or sunset happy hours.
Suite Setup: The Horizon Suite occupies the entire upper level and an extra bedroom and bathroom on the lower floor of our Driftwood Beach House. In order to comply with the Provincial and Municipal Short-term Rental laws, we have divided the home into 2 suites; the Horizon Suite (upper - 3 bedrooms, 3.5 baths) and the Breakwater Suite (lower - 2 bedroom, 2 bath). The Horizon Suite is a short-term rental unit and the Breakwater Suite is occupied long-term by our host tenant, which is required by the Sechelt Short-term Rental bylaws. Each suite is legal, has its own heating, plumbing, hot water and electrical with sound barriers. They are separated by a secured lock-off between the suites.
Guests staying in the Horizon Suite have exclusive use of the living room, dining room, kitchen, and the 3 bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms, the laundry room, the upper deck, the fire table, the barbecue and the waterfront amenities (firepit, chairs and chaise lounges by the water's edge). There are no shared areas with the tenant except the driveway, parking and the walkway to the tenant's suite. The tenant has their own patio for their own separate use.
Set at the end of a private 200-foot driveway with 100 feet of south-facing waterfront, the Horizon Suite is one of the Sunshine Coast’s rare oceanfront properties with no highway noise—just peace, nature, and ocean air. Watch sea otters, seals, bald eagles, and whales from the enormous glass-front deck or stroll down to your own rocky Pacific Northwest beach to go kayaking or paddleboarding (we do not supply any sports equipment). As evening falls, gather by the firepit and take in a breathtaking Sunshine Coast sunset.
Outdoor adventures are endless: hiking, cycling, kayaking, paddleboarding, swimming in the summer and snowshoeing or cross-country skiing at Dakota Ridge, in the winter. The town of Sechelt is an easy 5-minute drive for restaurants, shops, and essentials.
We are constructing a cabin near the road on the upper portion of the property; it will be on weekdays and standard construction hours. Because the Horizon Suite is located close to the water while the cabin site is near the road, we do not expect much disruption; however, guests may still experience some construction noise.
This listing was previously for our whole Driftwood Beach House (6 bedrooms, slept 14) but we had to undergo significant renovations in 2025 to divide the house into 2 suites after the Province of BC radically changed their short-term rental laws.

Extra Fees, charges and discounts: All fees, taxes and rules are subject to change at any time, even after booking. All prices are set in $CDN but may appear in your country's currency in your quote.
Cancellation Policy: We offer a more generous cancellation policy than described on VRBO. If the guest cancels and we are able to secure a replacement reservation, the guest will receive a refund of up to 90% of the amount paid by the guest or up to 90% of the amount received for the replacement reservation, whichever is less. If we do not receive a replacement reservation, we cannot provide any refund. The VRBO fees and applicable taxes paid by the guest will not be refunded if the guest cancels, but cleaning fee and any additional person fees will be refunded. No refunds or discounts will be provided if a traveler is unable to travel for whatever reason, whether due to illness, border restrictions, ferry disruptions, weather hazards or any other circumstances. It is advisable for all travelers to purchase travel cancelation insurance.
Terms of Reservation:
The Guest who booked the property shall return the completed and signed rental contract plus a photocopy of government-issues photo ID to the Homeowner within 7 days. Groups of young people (under 30) are not permitted but we do welcome children travelling with parents or grandparents. Maximum occupancy is 8. This is a residential home and some defects to the property, equipment, electronics, plumbing or amenities may arise. We make our best efforts to resolve any such defects as soon as possible with minimal disruption to our guests. However, delays beyond our control are to be expected in receiving replacement parts or scheduling repairs. No discounts or refunds will be provided for any such defects at the property.
The property has many ledges, slopes, rocks and hazards, particularly for small children. All members of the Rental Party must exercise caution when outdoors and watch all children carefully to prevent injury. At night, use a headlamp or flashlight. In the winter, the driveway and walkways can be icy and slippery; wear appropriate footwear and exercise extreme caution.
The Guest remains liable to pay for any fees, fines, charges, damage, costs, or liability arising during the Rental Period that are not covered by the VRBO Security Deposit.
RENTAL RULES - The Guest shall accept all the Rental Rules and shall ensure that all persons in the Rental Party abide by them.
1. The Homeowner reserves the right to evict any Guest or member of the Rental Party if there has been any breach of any of the Rental Rules. No refunds will be granted if an eviction is made. 2. No smoking on the property. 3. No additional guests other than those listed in the Rental Party in the rental contract are allowed at the property at all unless written authorization has been obtained from the Homeowner. This is not a party house. 4. Do not move any beds or furniture. Beds break if they are moved. 5. Do not unplug any cords for any electronics except so as to reboot as required in which case plug back in. Do not change the settings on any TVs, or Sonos music system. 6. No Pets. Immediate eviction with no refund plus fines if any pet is at the property. 7. No noise between 10:00pm and 8:00am. Be considerate of the neighbours. This is a residential neighbourhood. We reserve the right to evict any guest and/or group about whom we have received a noise complaint. 8. Parking. It is imperative that ALL parking must be on the premises; no street parking is allowed. Towing may occur. 9. Do not flush anything other than toilet paper. Do not flush tampons or disposable wipes; we have a septic system and these will clog it. 10. Garbage. Sort all garbage and recycling and put in the bins provided in the garage. Do not leave garbage outside by the house as it attracts wildlife (bears) and rodents. 11. Campfires are permitted by the beach unless a campfire ban is in place; the guest is responsible to check for a ban. We do not supply firewood; please bring your own. Never leave a fire unattended; extinguish all embers. Guests can use our propane firepit by the waterfront. but we do not supply propane - fill at Rona or the gas station. 12. Water restrictions. Sechelt experiences severe water shortages in the summer. Please reduce shower times and laundry. Using the exterior hoses may be prohibited in the dry summer months. Check the link provided at the house for any water restrictions. 13. Swimming and Waterfront. The property is located on the Pacific Ocean. Never leave a child unattended at the water and use all appropriate life-saving equipment if entering the water. There is no lifeguard. Water shoes are recommended as it's a rocky beach. Enter the water at your own risk. 14. Umbrellas. Close and tie shut the patio umbrellas when not in use or in windy conditions. If an umbrella breaks, the Guest will be responsible to cover all costs. 15. Wildlife. There are bears, coyotes, cougars and other wildlife are present in the Sunshine Coast area. Inform yourself of safety precautions and avoid these animals. Do not leave any garbage or food items outside at any time as this will attract wildlife. 16. Check Out Procedure: The Guest shall leave the house as they found it:
a) clean the dishes, pots/pans, cutlery and all other cooking utensils used and put away in proper places; b) clean any spills on the stovetop and oven; c) wash and dry any beach towels and put away; d) sort the garbage and put in cans in the garage; e) put on the dishwasher with the final load of dishes before departing.
18. Administration Fees:
$200 per item damaged or broken $200 for reprogramming of electronics required $200 to return any items left at the property by the Rental Party $750 for each broken umbrella $100 for each extra hour of hour of cleaning or sorting of garbage required beyond 12 hours $100 for each extra bag of garbage or recycling.
19. Fines: The following fines apply for breaches of the rental rules:
$1000 for violation of no smoking rule or no pets rule $300 for any violation of any other rental rule
No persons other than those in the rental party can attend at the property unless prior written permission is granted by the owners.
No outside noise after 10pm. No outdoor music after 10pm. Respect our neighbours as this house is in a residential neighbourhood.
Do not move any furnishings or beds or unplug or modify any TVs, sound systems or electronics. Fines and charges will apply.

Our beach front is a typical westcoast beach with rocks as can be seen from the photos and description in our listing. Children play at the beach all the time. We recommend water shoes as it is rocky.

So Perfect
We had our whole family staying .. plenty of room for all. Although the weather wasn't the greatest (so really couldn't take full enjoyment from the fabulous outdoor spaces) we were totally fine with inside games/ space and comfort.
Being right on the water, sipping a cup of coffee or a glass of wine and just enjoying the view (and seals, eagles, hawks, hummingbirds) was a vacation in itself! Highly recommend!

The Driftwood Beach House
This was a wonderful place to gather our family, consisting of my wife and I, our 3 children, their spouses and our 5 grandchildren. The house is absolutely great, with an entertaining contemporary Pop Art decor. The kitchen is super well stocked. The game room was very popular. The electronics are up to date and in good working order. The views, the beach, the fire pit....all worked to make this location ideal. The pictures cannot do it justice.

It is very unfortunate that a smoke alarm went off in the middle of the night. Every person who owns a home knows that smoke alarms sometimes beep in when the batteries are low, which is why we only use 10-year lithium ones. They were all installed just3 years ago and we check them several times per year. However, they also malfunction at times and we have no control over that. There is nothing we could have done to avoid this.

Birthday getaway
I rented this property for my family (6 adults and 2 young children) to celebrate a milestone birthday. The pictures are very accurate, the house was clean and everything was very clearly organized/labelled. There was more than enough space for us all. The hosts are very quick to respond to any questions. By the end of the week, nobody wanted to leave and go home. We already miss sitting on the deck watching the boats, eagles and seals. Please note that the hosts make it clear that the house is not childproof. We had no issues with it, the biggest concern was the stairs but they are easy to see from multiple sitting areas. Hope to return one day!

We were really excited about our upcoming stay, sadly didn’t find the beach access child friendly, and had issues with tv which we don’t think we would have been so disappointed with had their been some compensation (better customer service as we paid for it) and better communication. We paid a lot to stay there and after an accidental break of a fridge part, but not up to standard with what was offered in the cost of the rental. I sadly would not stay here again.

During this guest's stay, one of 7 TVs in the house stopped working due to a Telus box malfunction. We were on email and on the phone with this guest immediately and repeatedly trying to fix the problem. We always respond to any guest concerns immediately as we did with this guest; we have 3 people monitoring our email at all times. Once it was determined that it was a Telus problem, we immediately ordered a new box from Telus, but Telus did not deliver it until after this guest's short 4-day stay. The other 6 TVs in the house all worked throughout their stay. For a minor inconvenience such as this, we do not offer compensation as it does not interfere with the use of the house. The beach at the Driftwood Beach House is exactly as shown in our photos and as described in our listing; it is a Pacific Northwest beach with rocks. Small children play on the beach all the time as they love foraging for starfish, swimming, finding crabs and rummaging through the rocks.

the only thing missing were the Killer Whales!!
What more could anyone ask for- sea ,sun, blue sky and a beautiful house within a stones throw from the ocean!
The house and furnishings were superb and the beds and bedrooms enormous with ample space for our party of 11 adults whether dining,playing cards or just relaxing, either indoors or outdoors on the deck or patio or in the hot tub!!

Family fun in the sun
We absolutely love sechelt. And this property was one of the best. The location was perfect with its own parcel of a rocky beach. We were close to the town but far enough to have peace and quiet. The house was more than well equipped with everything we needed. Enough room for 4 families and enough things to do for all the kids. I definitely recommend staying at driftwood.

A lovely house all around. Well-decorated and the X-mas tree was a nice touch. Kitchen was well stocked with equipment and the labels on the light switches made life a bit easier!! Proved to be more than enough room for our party (8 adults, 2 kids). Heavy snow made the last bit of road a challenge and driveway unusuable..sure that's not a problem in the summer :). Greatly appreciate the owner reaching out in advance to warn about the conditions and quickly responded when we had issues with the controller of some of baseboard heaters. Highly recommended property all-around with views that are hard to beat!

Escape to the sunshine coast
We had a great stay. Although there are a lot of rules they were easy to follow and having everything labelled made it easy to find. The rooms are beautiful. And waking up to that view was really special. We would definitely stay again.
