Hello Erica, I’ve got to say that I’m a little shocked to see this sort of response after hearing nothing but pleasant comments during your stay, even following my message checking up on everything. While it may not help you much now, I’ll answer those grievances. The couches have a brown protective covering over the kick panels to protect against wear and complement the house’s color scheme. The mattresses are a middle ground in the “firm to soft” spectrum to accommodate the wide variety of guest preferences we see, so I do apologize if it wasn’t quite to your liking. We use mattress protectors on our beds to help with sanitization between guests, especially as we strive to provide the safest stay possible amidst the pandemic. You’re the first to mention anything about them. The home is equipped with a VHS player for the sake of nostalgia, but it also has a DVD player for your convenience. The TV channels are what’s available in the area via antenna–I do not control them. We’ve been working adamantly with the local internet service provider to have Wi-Fi installed and will be installing a smart TV upon receiving internet service. Having just installed new carpets, new furniture, new beds, and new fixtures earlier this year, I must respectfully disagree that it’s dated. This home is far from any metropolitan area, so it’s equipped with well water. Mind you, it is double filtered with carbon filters for the whole house with additional filtration provided at the kitchen sink for your convenience. The water is also tested (and has passed, of course) as part of the inspection process. I’m happy to hear you found the home quiet enough to hear the water heater; the lake can be quite quiet at night. Our check-in policy on Vrbo states that we do not currently offer self-check-in. The details of such are made clear in the welcome packet sent immediately after booking. Vrbo does not allow us to send it sooner, otherwise I would. If you were uncomfortable with this policy, you were well within the free-cancellation window. Each VRBO rental is a unique business run by unique owners and hosts, so you may notice some differences between them. You know, “unique” is where we thrive. This cozy lakeside cabin comes with amenities, quirks, and character you won’t be able to find anywhere else. Hi Kathryn, I'm glad to hear you had a great time! As is shown on our Vrbo listing, we do not currently offer self-check-in. This policy is in place for a variety of reasons, one of which includes accounting for our guests who (for example) don’t mention they’ve brought a jetski. Guests are free to bring watercraft, of course, but there’s then additional information we have to cover to save you getting a fine from the lake association. If I’m made aware of those things in advance, I can even provide things like buoys to make docking easier. Check-in is an extension of the service I offer, where guests have an opportunity to ask any questions they may have and receive an immediate response. I do my best to accommodate virtually any check-in time and make scheduling as painless as possible. I’m plenty flexible as well, even working around last-minute changes.
