A family of nine stayed at this cabin over Thanksgiving and it worked out just fine. The cabin has 4 bedrooms and 2 full baths- both with showers- a large modern kitchen- electric stove- that looks out to a large living room with a wood-burning fireplace. In addition, there is a screened porch off the kitchen and a small deck with a fire pit off of the porch. For two couples or a group as large as nine- this cabin will serve you well.
There's much to do on the mountain including the use of the amenities-for the regular price- of the Wintergreen resort. We especially enjoyed the hiking trails, two of which were literally steps away from the house. Both were parts of the old and new Appalachian Trail and were well marked with parts that posed moderate difficulty. Make sure you hike one day to the nearby falls.
This log cabin was beautiful. It looked old in a personable way, but indoors there was every amenity. I especially liked the layout of the 4 bedrooms for our group. There were two rooms with queen beds and two rooms with two twin beds. This worked well, as there was only one couple, so only two of us otherwise had to share a bed and there was lots of privacy. The kitchen was well-stocked with supplies. The sofas and chairs were comfortable. There was a screened in porch and an outdoor porch with a charcoal grill and log heater. The fireplace inside with supplied wood was very handy and provided warmth and atmosphere. The Wifi was excellent, which came in very handy as I had a little personal business I had to take care of the first day. There was an extra den with a door which someone could use as a spare bedroom if they didn't mind sleeping on the couch if needed.
We had an enjoyable stay at the cabin with our friends and together our two small children. The downstairs area was great for spreading out but also being together, and the open plan made it easy to keep an eye on the kids. The location near the nexus of many trails was also a plus and made it easy to explore the surrounding woods. The fog which hung on the mountain all weekend was a delight, however, not a big deal, but it did make the cabin feel a bit dark even in the middle of the day. Overall a great property.
We've stayed at the cabin during the ski season and love the location - quick to the slopes and an easy walk to hiking trails for the non-skiers and dogs. It's just as wonderful in the summer. Plenty of room, close to hiking trails, and quiet. A perfect place to get away from the craziness of real life for a few days. We love how it's dog-friendly and has enough room for a family. We'll be back!
My friends and I rented the cabin for an extended weekend stay to celebrate my birthday. The space is beautiful and cozy and we had a great time. We enjoyed time at the local resort spa and went to a cidery and brewery in the area. The space was perfect for our group and we had room to spare. I would definitely stay here again.
The cabin is spacious and comfortable. We had 5 people and a dog, and could have easily fit more. Being so close to the Appalachian Trail is a big plus for us, as we love to hike. The area is super secluded, allowing for great stargazing at night. We very much enjoyed our stay!
Wonderful cabin for skiers and non-skiers alike. Steps away from hiking trails, and a short drive to the ski slopes. Great kitchen and plenty of room for an extended family and dogs. An absolute must for a Wintergreen get-away!
We had such a great time here!!! The cabin was clean, large, and perfect for our weekend getaway. It was even nicer than I expected!!! Definitely will be back.
If you want a quiet place close to outdoor activities- this is it! The cabin is well suited for families or friends. There are four bedrooms and two bathrooms. It is well equipped with the essentials. You really never have to go out to eat if you bring your own supplies which is especially important during these Covid times. We give this cabin a five star review.
The cabin was just as the photos depict. Lots of room for the family to spread out and a great screened porch and deck to relax on. Plenty of blankets and linens and the kitchen was fully stocked with everything you need for cooking. The location was top notch if you are a hiker, the Appalachian Trail entrance was literally 100 feet from the front door a long with the Old Appalachian Trail directly across the street. If you are a cyclist you can access the Blue Ridge parkway with a short walk through the woods (trail) to the road (Dripping Rock overlook area). Communication with the owners was easy and their replies were always quick. We highly recommend this cabin and will surely try and make this our annual fall trip.
We came up for a family vacation and loved every minute of it. The cabin was cozy and quaint and in a great location close to hiking trails. You are within walking distance to a few nice trails and within minutes of driving to some of the more commercialized hikes as well as wineries and breweries. Highly recommend staying at this little house.
House was very well stocked and has a beautiful setting. Close to wonderful trails to walk and hike. Very peaceful with nice front porch, wonderful screened in porch and back deck! Definitely will return again.
Positives: great location, plenty of room for 4 adults and 4 kids, plenty of seating in the living room for everyone, fireplace with plenty of wood supplied, downstairs area in good condition, baseboard heat worked great to keep us warm in very cold temps.
Negatives: upstairs needs alot of TLC and updating. Our biggest issue was the cleanliness of the kitchen. We ended up having to wash almost all the dishes and utensils due to finding dried food and residue on them.
We stayed there for new years and the place was great, clean, well equipped, plenty of parking, close to everything and Maureen was always available for any questions we had. Recommended 100%
This a classic cabin in the woods. The cabin had two big living rooms which gives ample space for a board game night after hiking. The two sections let you have two groups doing separate things while staying together. We used the grill on patio and used wood for fire. Wood was nice and dry and easy to burn. Cleaning afterwards was simple also ! Two must visit trials are right outside the cabin (no need to drive). Only problem was when I spotted a tick on my hand after waking up (need pest check). The pillow covers could have used more cleaning .
We loved our stay in this sweet rustic cabin. Loved how the cabin was decorated . Very spacious and well equipped with everything we needed. The fireplace was great for a rainy icy day. What a great getaway and this home made it very relaxing for us. Hope to go back one day.
We had a blast at the log cabin - super convenient, clean and well equipped. We stayed with 2 families with small children for a total of 10. Our lone teenager slept on a comfy couch but it worked beautifully!! We would definitely rent again, thank you!
The whole family loved the cabin! It was very comfortable and spacious. All of the supplies were plentiful and the photos helped us make our final decision to stay there. Glad it is kid & pet friendly (even though we ended up leaving the dog at home).
The owner, Maureen, was extremely helpful & gracious. She was helpful with all of our questions & always returned our calls.
Thank you Maureen & Brad for a great weekend!!
Perfectly situated outside the bustle of the resort area, but a short drive away. We (and our two dogs) loved staying here for a long weekend. While everyone else skied, the dogs and I went walking on the closed Skyline drive - about a 5 minute walk away. Plenty of room for everyone, comfortable furnishings, and a great feeling of being away from it all. My first time at Wintergreen, but we'll be back!
We normally have 20+ people at our home for Thanksgiving. We decided to do something different this year and just have my wife and I and our grown children at the cabin. It was great. Loved the cabin and the proximity to great hiking trails. Thanksgiving dinner with a fire in the big stone fireplace was special. The cabin had all of the comforts of home with rustic feel. Proximity to a variety of micro-brews and wineries was an added feature. We would definitely do it again.
We fell in love with this cabin while living in VA and purchased it for family weekend get-a-ways. We enjoyed 2 years of wonderful weekends skiing, tubing and hiking during the winter months and swimming, golfing, horse back riding, playing tennis and hiking the Appalachian trials in the summer. Wintergreen offers wonderful facilities for families (we have 2 children), couples looking for a romantic weekend, groups looking for a wonderful SPA experience, and/or skiing or golfing weekend get-a ways. When a change in jobs moved us to Upstate NY we just couldn't part with our family's happy place so we decided to list it on the VRBO for others to enjoy. Call us for more details and we will do all we can to make your Wintergreen experience truly memorable!
