Aww, man, you missed it by a week! This is a very popular lake for fishing. If your visit had been a week earlier you could have docked your boat and avoided pulling it out each day. Guests also have the option to drive down and park by the lake instead of walking. We're glad you enjoyed the cabin and your getaway spending time on a boat with a rod in your hands. :-) We discussed your concern about the water level and options before you booked since the water level is naturally lower in the fall. We discussed that the water level in Sacandaga Lake varies throughout the year, and in the event the water level is not high enough for you to use our dock, we are very fortunate that the boat launch is only 1/4 mile away so that you could launch each day and still enjoy your fishing trip. You were aware of this possibility before you decided to book a fall getaway, and our off-season pricing reflects the same.

Thank you for choosing Our Happy Place for your vacation. We're glad that you and your party enjoyed the Guest House. Thank you very much for your feedback as it gives us great ideas for things we could potentially enhance in the future as we continually strive to ensure guests have everything they need. The Guest House is over 100 feet away from our log cabin, and the deck guests use while outside is on the far side of the Guest House, so that is probably ~150 feet away from our log cabin, offering plenty of room for privacy. We rarely see or hear our guests at all. There is also a fire pit at the Guest House for guest use. We have a lot of land here, so it takes a few minutes to walk down to the lake. We happen to really enjoy the walk because it reminds us to relax and enjoy ~ we’re on vacation. Other than personal items, everything guests need is already down at the lake. We have a wheeled beach carrier that guests can use to bring things down to the lake. Guests also have the option of driving down and parking at the lake, should they wish to do so. There are numerous picnic tables, chairs and benches set up across the property, offering many options for guests to choose their preferred location down at the lake. There is also a storage shed with additional camp chairs, floats, noodles etc for guest use while down at the lake. We are very blessed as our lake access is a private permit with 514' of frontage directly across the street for our family and our guests to enjoy. There are woods on either end of the property providing privacy from our neighbors. I don't think this guest realized everything she walked by on her walk down to the lake is our land for us and our guests to enjoy. Because the dock and surrounding amenities are a visible focal point while down at the lake for guest use, I'm not sure this guest realized the other amenities down at the lake are also part of our property and that we have a totally separate area for our family's use at the other end of our property. Although the dock, beach access ramp and water bouncer are shared, there is ample room for privacy down at the lake.

The water level on the lake varies throughout the year. The water is typically at its highest point in the spring, and then gradually recedes throughout the summer season. As the water recedes during the summer season, it reveals a nice sandy beach, particularly during July, August and later in the year. August is the ideal time to visit for guests seeking a large beach area. There are a number of public parks and beaches around the Great Sacandaga Lake. For example, Northville has a nice beach on Route 30, and the Conklingville Dam is a popular place for folks with children. Each of these options are only 15 minutes away. There are also lots of other activities nearby as reflected in the Guide Book.
