The occasion of your stay & this review are disagreeable from our perspective. "Hi Serena, would love to stay at your property. Any chance it is available starting today (1/1)? Trying to avoid driving in the snow tmw. System was not letting me book starting today. Happy to pay from 1/2-1/6 thru the system. Pls let me know ASAP. xxx-xxx-xxxx." We let you know our cleaner was not up to the task of driving to the lake in a snow storm that day because it had not been cleaned from previous guests. "Understood. I don’t want to make this an emergency for you. I have booked your place nonetheless. We will leave early tmw AM and hope for the best regarding snow. If we can have an early check-in, I would appreciate it. THANK YOU." Our cleaners drove up to the cottage to clean & clear snow for your arrival. Before your arrival you were advised the side street that was slippery. This street allows access to our carport and EV charger. This is the responsibility of the county to clear and can be accessed with a vehicle equipped to handle snow. The front parking space was cleared; a shovel, and additional ice melt was left out for your use. As there was an active snow storm, by the time you arrived the front parking space had some snow that had fallen recently. The photos you shared with myself and VRBO showed some snow, some asphalt, our shovel and the ice melt that was available in the parking space that was accessible which is why they advised we did not have to refund you at all since you decided to leave and did not cancel. However, we sent a refund for your stay less the amount for the first evening, 14% tax, and $5/per evening of your planned stay, as well as a fraction of a normal cleaning cost. We typically do not charge a cleaning fee because guests stay a minimum number of evenings to cover this. As you entered the property upon arrival, and used the facilities, we had the cleaner clean for the next guest after your stay expired. We refunded $1,064.59 from the reservation and VRBO charged you a service fee of $165.00. In the future, with businesses such as these, you should cancel your stay. The home was available during your entire booking. We wholeheartedly believe in providing a great home and service to our guests and it is unfortunate that you did not want to stay at our home.
