À propos de cet hébergement
The Cove House: funky, oceanfront home with private rocky beach
Enjoy beach-combing and seaside air 15 minutes from downtown. Furnished 3 bed home nestled on quiet lane. Large living room with ocean views. Wooded pathway to private beach.
Various options possible. Please write a detailed intro message here or to boho at IdeasUnlimited dot ca
WELCOME!
Our home is a 100-year old, 3 bedroom (master, office, loft) cottage perched above the approaches to Halifax's Northwest Arm. It was renovated by an artist in the 1970s so it has an interesting mix of 1930s cottage vibe with mid-century Bohemian (rough-hewn beams, cathedral ceilings).
NEW REGULATIONS: the province of Nova Scotia has recently made the choice to restrict Airbnb in outlying areas in order to drive visitors to the downtown hotels instead. As a consequence, after Sept 30, the app will only allow for bookings of 28 days or longer. if that does not suit your needs, let us know! :-) Boho at Ideas Unlimited dot ca.
INTRODUCTIONS: While we are out, we are opening our home to like-minded people who believe in leaving places in better condition than they find them. Pease write to tell us about yourselves - full names of yourself and your travel companions, who you are, what you do, why you're interested in staying in our home, and whether you’re the kind of people who take pleasure in leaving places better than you found them. If you need ideas, check out my profile, and write me something similar about yourself!
LIVING ROOM: spacious with cathedral ceilings, working wood stove, patio doors opening onto a deck overlooking Northwest Arm and Point Pleasant Park. Lovely tree and sea views. You can also catch glimpses of cruise ships and container ships entering Halifax Harbour and watch the sailboats (and whales!) coming and going. There is a cozy sleeping loft with comfy double bed above the living room. Note that loft stairs do not have an external railing, so it is not suitable for young children (although it is predictably a kid-magnet!)
KITCHEN: fully equipped kitchen (with adjacent full dining room). Refrigerator, electric glass-top range, microwave, cooking utensils, dishes, etc.
DINING ROOM: bright windowed dining room looking onto our currently-under construction yard. Hardwood floors, vintage furnishings. Local pottery.
BEDROOM: Sun-drenched bedroom with brand new Queen bed and new mattress; spectacular views through the trees of the Northwest Arm.
OFFICE/BEDROOM: currently set up as our home office, this super cute room has a brand new patio door looking over our wooded pathways to the sea. It is presently equipped with a double futon sofa bed, but we are aiming to change it to a regular queen bed for our summer visitors.
WATER SUPPLY: the property is on well and septic, so we strive to conserve water.
LAUNDRY: one room in the basement is newly renovated and available for guest use. It’s also where we have the laundry (washing machine, dryer). And, oddly, it is also where we have the piano. So you can play duets with the thunk thunk thunk of the dryer.
PARKING: there is parking for one car at the entrance to the house, and additional parking available on our private lane. The house sits at the top of a small hill.
GROUNDS: the house fronts on the ocean, with a wooded path down to the rocky beach. The path is best for the sure-footed, but my fairly-agile 84 year old mother-in-law can handle it. There are three houses on our property, and all residents share the beach access.
The property was badly damaged during Hurricanes Dorian (before we bought it) and Fiona (after it was 'ours'), and we are still finishing landscape repair work. We are currently building a retaining wall to stabilize the slope, so the yard and beach are ‘under construction’ and machinery and materials may be on site. The beach is accessible, but you may prefer to enjoy the ocean views from the deck.
BEACH: we have over 150 feet of private rocky beach, gently sloping to the ocean. Despite the ongoing landscape work, the beach is accessible via a set of granite steps built into the retaining wall. Swimming is possible, but nicer (and deeper) around the corner in the Cove proper. Unless you have amazingly tough feet, water shoes are necessary - we are gradually assembling a supply.
PAY IT FORWARD: We are working to develop a spirit of collaboration between hosts, guests and the world in general. We believe in the principle of ‘leaving things better than you found them’ and invite you to join us as temporary caretakers of this magical place. Guests of The Cove House leave the house in better shape than they found it, ready for the next arrival. This isn't for everyone but perhaps it is for you? Please let us know when you write your introductory pitch! If you’d prefer we arrange a cleaner for you, please let us know and we can add that to your bill ($150-250 range, depending on the mess!).
