This luxury free-standing house has recently undergone a complete renovation, and offers discerning island visitors a private and breathtakingly beautiful home overlooking the Melrose beach and Atlantic Ocean.

As are all the Coastal Collection properties, the Sweetgum Cottage is, quite frankly, drop-dead beautiful. Decorated by Atlanta designers, every room is a showcase of casual elegance and comfort. There is no space in the house that is not touched with exquisite lighting, artwork, and furnishings.

And the location is sublime! The Sweetgum Cottage is situated on the picturesque Avenue of Oaks with a wooded setting at the front and the Atlantic Ocean at the back. As a free-standing house, guests will enjoy privacy and beauty...and all just steps to the beach.

Concerned about the logistics of coming to a bridge-less island? No need to worry! Guests receive information and assistance from the DRG team, all of whom live on the island and who are available 24/7 for any problems. Team members strive to create a stress-free and enjoyable adventure for their visitors, and to ensure that their Daufuskie experience creates lasting and once-in-a-lifetime memories.

1) Daufuskie Rental Group makes a good faith effort to describe island amenities, including restaurants and pools. However, please note that we are not responsible for the availability of amenities that we do not operate and that are beyond our control. We recommend you contact the vendors for current rates, days and times open.

2) Your rental agreement contract's cancellation policy states that we are not responsible for events that are beyond our control, such as weather related. We strongly encourage our guests to purchase travel insurance, and especially recommend "cancel for any reason" policies. (These must be purchased shortly after your reservation is made.)

3) Please note that because the Melrose Resort is in transition, our Melrose guests may notice a certain level of deterioration in the resort-owned buildings but will also see that renovation efforts are now underway. Our vacation cottages are in well-maintained areas and continue to be extremely popular.
The living area features an open floor plan including comfortable seating areas, a fully equipped kitchen, a large flat-screen TV over the fireplace, and of course the fabulous ocean vista. The adjoining screened-in porch overlooks the ocean, and provides a perfect setting for morning coffee and evening cocktails.

There are four master bedrooms in the house, and one master suite with a seating area and private screened porch. All of the masters have ensuite bathrooms separated by sliding "barn doors." Three of the masters have king beds, the fourth one has two queens. (Perfect for parents who want to share the space with their little ones.) The fifth bedroom has a queen bed and the bathroom is directly across the hall. Coastal artwork, luxury bedding, high end furniture, and elegant ceiling fans in all bedrooms await their fortunate guests.

The cottage features an open floor plan with comfortable seating areas in the dining and living room areas. The fully equipped kitchen, perfect for preparing family meals, easily flows into the living and dining spaces.

A wonderful ocean-front screened porch offers a relaxing setting for morning coffee and evening cocktails. Also included in the house is a full laundry room with washer, dryer, and laundry sink. Outside, you will find a hot and cold water shower and a gas grill. The cottage also comes with 4 beach chairs.
