La Villa Calista est nichée entre une oliveraie isolée dans les contreforts des Lefka Ori (Montagnes Blanches) dans la région ouest de Crète - le Apokoronos.

La Villa Calista est une villa individuelle de deux étages, meublée confortablement, de deux chambres, avec une piscine, de beaux jardins en terrasses et verger, située dans le petit hameau historique de Aspro. La villa est entourée d'oliviers, avec une vue superbe sur les montagnes et la mer de Crète bleu cristal.

À seulement 25 km de la ville historique de La Canée et à seulement 2 km de la plage et du village touristique populaire de Almyrida, Villa Calista est parfait pour une retraite tranquille au milieu de la beauté naturelle de l'ouest de Crète.

Isolée et paisible, mais pas loin, la Villa est une excellente base pour explorer la riche diversité de Crète ou tout simplement profiter des vacances de détente au calme dans une villa confortable complètement équipée.

Beautiful villa

An awesome place to explore Crete from.

We had a fantastic stay and I had stayed in numerous Villas and this is by far the best.

We were after a quiet relaxing holiday and this is exactly what we had and more. The facilities far exceeded what you would normally expect in a Villa which made us feel very well looked after and catered for. The management of the property during our stay was excellent. We would definitely book to stay again in the future as the location was magnificent, Alp like scenery to the South and fantastic sea views to the North. It’s perfectly positioned for getting to all the main attractions and we certainly made use of them during our stay. Thank you so much for a lovely holiday and you have an amazing Villa. The perfect villa!

This villa has it all. Situated on the top of a hill, yet only 2km from the beach and 3km form the highway, is the ideal base for daytrips to the Cretean "must see" sites. Well equipped, beautiful mediterrenean style house with plenty seating areas. This villa does not have "a" view, rather it has views. Ranges of mountains to the South, roling hills and a ravine towards the west and the Souda bay to the North. All to be enjoyed from the fabulously landscaped garden. A real gem!

A lovely well equipped villa with a great view and beautiful grounds!

Our family of 3 had a lovely stay at Villa Calista at the end of July. The house was well taken care of and perfect for our needs! My son spent hours in the pool, and all meals were taken at the lovely outside seating area (many having being cooked on the BBQ). The view across the bay is fantastic and can be viewed from the many outdoor seating areas. The house was also well equipped with washing machine, coffee maker, dishwasher and air con. We enjoyed many days out to the local beaches and great seafood lunches by the sea. Communication with the owner was very efficient and the directions made it easy to find! All in all a very relaxing holiday - thank you!! Rachel, Neil & Josh Targett

Beautiful Villa, stunning scenery

We’ve had a really lovely week at Villa Calista, the Villa is beautiful and the views of the mountains and bay are stunning. Nancy was fabulous, she responded to emails quickly and was able to accommodate last minute changes and requests which made a big difference to us. It was very hot so we didn’t do much more than hang around the Villa and go to some beaches and Tavernas but that was perfect for a relaxing holiday. The little road up to the Villa is quite narrow and steep but you get the hang of it quite quickly. We recommend the lovely taverna 5 mins north in Gavalochori (Gavalianos Kafenes) and shop opposite. Go easy in the heat!

Beautiful retreat

A beautiful villa, more than well equipped with nice added extras. The location is handy for local taverns and walking explorations. I would advise not to hire a really small car as the road to the property is a bit bumpy and the under carriage of the car scraped at times. The gardens and grounds are more than tranquil with hidden areas and you can seek shade quite easily. The only negative we have is that there is intermitant building work on the neighbouring villa of which we were not informed. We were however very satisfied with our stay and the pool man cleaner and gardens were full of information on areas to visit. Thank you Nancy and Bob. 🤠

A stunning home, perfect for a couple or small family seeking a luxurious get-away

We found the property to be excellently presented and very clean. The facilities are exceptional, both in the villa and around the garden. Great attention to detail is paid to everything, from the well equipped kitchen, to a comfortable lounge, the outdoor areas and the bedrooms. The pool is modest in size, perfect for a dip to cool off. The rest of the gardens are stunningly presented and abound with beautiful flowers. There is a fabulous little BBQ and space to dry towels and washing. The bedrooms are comfortable, with loads of hanging space. The screen for the shower in the bath leaked a bit (probably needs replacing - a simple enough job), but the rest of the facilities were faultless, including the highly efficient aircon. Overall, we enjoyed a fabulous 9 night stay at this wonderful property and would highly recommend it to anyone. Nancy and Bob really went the extra mile, along with the property manager Jackie to make our stay a comfortable and memorable experience. Thank you to all.

Great views, quiet, well appointed with all the necessities for a self contained property

Property exactly as described and shown on website. Excellent details on how to get there, how to operate all equipment on property. WiFi excellent. Beautiful views both of mountains and the sea. Away but close enough to nearby town of Almirida, where most restaurants and supermarkets located. Pool and outdoor areas fantastic for parents and our young girls. Indoors appointed well and comfortable. Surrounded by olive trees and only the goats would visit, so very private and quiet. Highly recommend this property, we really enjoyed our time here. What could be improved, only minor stuff. Softer pillows would have been nice. We were also read the rules from the housekeeper and made to sign that we had understood them, kind of made us feel like school kids. Gardeners even though they were polite, came around from side passageway , straight into kitchen area to tell us they would be in garden - they should have knocked front door. But these are only minor points for what is an excellent property and I am sure anyone who stays here will be extremely happy.

Holiday Paradise

Villa Calista is a beautiful vacation rental!! From the moment you reach the beautifully manicured property and catch a glimpse of the scenic harbour from the pool deck, you know you have made a great choice. The owners spend their winters at the villa, so there is nothing that you need that isn't provided- a BBQ with full propane tank, utensils, plates, useful kitchen appliances and even salt and pepper! Upon arrival, we easily picked up our keys on site. The owners have arranged for all guests to receive a welcome basket, containing olive oil from their own olive trees and everything you need to get you through the first day/night. They also included a beach bag which came in very handy! The rooms each had towels laid out, and a pool towel for our use. There is satellite TV, two spacious rooms, and a good sized bathroom. The bedrooms and full bath are upstairs and they each step out onto the comfortable balcony- a perfect spot to enjoy your morning coffee (which is also included in the welcome basket!) and enjoy the view of the military and cruise ships coming in and out of the harbour. The location of the villa is very central, allowing for easy exploring of Chania (1/2 hour) and Heraklion (45 mins), or there is a perfectly lovely beach at the bottom of the hill in Almyrida. The owners, Bob and Nancy, have also placed a book of all the beaches and tavernas to visit to make decisions easy. We would highly recommend a visit to Margarite for pottery, a boatride from Kissimos to Balos beach, and the old town in Chania. The best part of the trip was arriving home after a long day of exploring and sitting out on the patio with a glass of wine and watching the sun set over the nearby mountain- complete relaxation!! We have already decided to come back to Villa Calista on a regular basis. Thanks Bob and Nancy for sharing your villa with us. It was an amazing vacation!

Ruhige Unterkunft die keine Wünsche offen lässt.

Wir hatten einen tollen Aufenthalt in der sehr liebevoll eingerichteten Villa Calista. Bei Ankunft erwartete uns bereits frisches Obst, Wasser, Marmelade, Honig und ein frisches Brot. Obwohl wir nur eine Woche dort waren, erfolgte nach vier Tagen eine Zwischenreinigung (neue Handtücher, etc.) und eine Pool-Reinigung. Die Villa ist oberhalb der Küste auf einem Berg sehr ruhig gelegen und man ist dort völlig ungestört. Man braucht jedoch ein Auto, wenn man den Urlaub nicht ausschließlich am eigenen Pool verbringen möchte. Der nächste Ort mit Einkauftsmöglichkeiten, Restaurants und einem kleinen Strand ist wenige Fahrminuten entfernt. Ebenfalls gut und innerhalb von max. einer Stunde Fahrtzeit zu erreichen sind Chania und Rethymno. Wir waren nach der Woche sehr zufrieden und gut erholt. Danke an Nancy und Bob für die tolle Gastfreundschaft!

How lovely Villa Calista!

Fabulous outdoor space, beautiful gardens with sea and mountain views. Home from home villa! Nothing this little gem doesn't have so there's no need to stock up with anything...except your own food and wine! Welcome basket was great. Candles galore making the use of the outside space at night so pretty... I would recommend a car due to the incline and uneven road to the villa. Jackie the villa manager and her husband the pool cleaner were so friendly and couldn't do enough for you. Lovely holiday had by all!!! Ohh and we do miss the little kittens...Zena and Hercules 😀😀😀

Wonderful Villa

Stay at Villa Calista

We had a really great holiday at the villa. Right from the start with the fantastic directions from the airport (better than our Sat Nav!) there has clearly been a lot of thought that has gone into making a stay here relaxing. All the small bits and pieces that you may need are there. The property and pool were clean and well maintained and the area beyond the pool into the olive grove is a real plus. We really liked the outdoor covered area where we could relax in the shade. The view's from the property are fantastic. The local village has some really good restaurants, plenty of activities on the beach and is very clean. The snorkelling from the side of the beach was excellent. A great place to go.

Amazing and beautiful home away from home.

This is the first time we had booked a holiday villa independently, and I have to say the whole thing was seamless from start to finish. We took a lot of care in choosing and were heavily influenced by the reviews from previous holiday makers. It turned out to be a very good choice. As soon as we had booked we were contacted by the owners who are clearly passionate about Crete and their beautiful villa, and also about ensuring that we had a great time. They were extremely helpful and informative and responded very quickly to emails. Having signed up to the Villa Calista facebook page, by the time we arrived we felt as if we already knew both the villa and the area well. I have to say that the villa and its grounds are incredible. The villa is so comfortable and cosy, and well equipped, and the grounds are so beautifully tended providing sunny and shaded areas throughout the day. The pool is fabulous, and the covered Alvi is perfect for sitting in the shade while looking out over the pool at the amazing views. The thing that really strikes you about Villa Calista is how well maintained it is, how clean it is, and how every detail has been thought through so carefully. This is Bob and Nancy's home during the winter, and the place has all the signs of being loved and having everything you could possibly need, whilst at the same time not making you feel as if you are intruding on someone elses space. Its the details which you almost take for granted that make the place special, like the endless storm lanterns and copious supply of candles for the Alvi which creates a beautiful atmosphere in the evening; the hammock in the orchard; the beautiful cushions that decorate all the seating areas; the great range of kitchen equipment; and the thoughtful goodies basket that is there when you arrive. The villa is in a lovely part of Crete, and while we were much lazier than we usually are on holiday (due to the intense heat, and the fact that the villa itself makes it easy for you to lounge about and be lazy), there is plenty to do and see within a short drive; and then there is that pool to jump into when you get back! If you like traditional greek food then this is the place for you. There are traditional tavernas at every turn, and they far out number the touristy haunts. We have no negative comments to make. We would recommend Villa Calista. I have no doubt that we will be back to this home away from home in the sun.

A perfect week in a piece of paradise.

House, gardens and views were fantastic. We had everything in the house we needed and more. Perfect place to spend quite time or visit Crete. We did both. The gardens and pool are really nice, you can get away from it all in the lower levels of the garden. The pool was refreshing and clean. I would highly recommend this Villa.

We hope you enjoy your stay at our home in Aspro, Crete and come to love the island as much as we do.

We live on the east coast of Canada, but spend most of the winter in our beloved Crete. We are both avid history buffs (Nancy is a former archaeologist), travellers, and animal lovers.

We are having the time of our lives exploring all Crete has to offer and we know you will too.

We chose this property for our retirement home, as it has everything we were looking for - quiet privacy, comfort, and close to the amenities in the towns and villages. We love the peaceful setting of the sleepy old village of Aspro, but we also love the lively villages and towns of Almyrida and Kalyves close by. When we need a taste of nightlife or shopping, the city of Chania is less than a half hour away.

Our villa is perfect for those seeking a private home to stay while exploring the wonders of Crete. It's a great base for gentle hiking, cycling and exploring. Enjoy our views of the Cretan Sea or the mountains from the gardens and balcony. Wander through our orchard garden, snooze in the hammock among the wildflowers, or plan your excursions from the comfort of our outdoor terrace. A Blue Flag beach is only 2 minutes away, with many others within a short drive. Shops, cafes, dining, bank ATMs, nightlife are all to be had close by. From the villa, you can visit fascinating archaeological ruins, enjoy your pick of great tavernas and cafes, explore charming historic villages, or access some of the most famous beaches in Europe. Winery tours, cooking classes, sailing, biking, hiking, caving - are all options to consider when staying here. Then again, it's hard to resist lounging by our private pool!

When our guests enter Villa Calista, they are immediately drawn to the "avli" or covered terrace just off the kitchen, with its views of the private pool, our gardens below, and the magnificent mountains in the distance. The avli is sheltered from the strong Cretan sun and is always kept cool by mountain breezes. It features large lounging areas along with a dining set for meals al fresco. The avli leads to our private pool and terrace with comfortable chairs, sunbeds, and umbrellas. Imagine yourself relaxing here with a cool drink after a full day of sight seeing! At night, lighting and candles make this a romantic, atmospheric retreat.

Follow the stone path down to the lower gardens and olive orchard, where you'll find stunning sea and mountain views - our apricot, orange, mandarin and other trees, along with fragrant lavender, roses, jasmine, and rosemary bushes. Depending on the season, there is an ever-changing assortment of colourful flowers. We've tucked the hammock down among the shady olive trees - a perfect place to steal a nap or read a book on a lazy afternoon! A table and chairs are in the shady orchard as well - great for a cool picnic on site, or for an afternoon of chess on our garden-sized board!

Hikers and cyclists will love the many lanes and pathways in the area and our little village of Aspro itself is worth exploring for its fascinating remnants of Turkish architecture. Check out our many local guide books for suggested routes and excursions.

We love the location of the Villa Calista as it is perfect for making day-trips to the many wonderful historic villages and towns in the region - just 25 minutes from Chania; 45 minutes from Rethymnon; and about an hour and a half to the larger city of Heraklion and the amazing archaeological site of Knossos just beyond.
