The views were wonderful! We loved having a wood burning fireplace, and the hot tub was the perfect temperature. Short drives to Red River Gorge and Natural Bridge (not walking distance as reported in the listing). Local restaurants, shopping and coffee also a close drive. Would have liked to have had a Kureg available, but there is a small coffee maker and there were plenty of filters.
Reviews had prepared us for the rough trek leading to the cabin once we arrived. The access road was in very poor condition. Erosion eating away at the road was practically unavoidable. Friends had a new car and it wasn't anything they were comfortable with.We discovered 1 table lamp without a light bulb and couldn't find a replacement. The ceiling light in the lower level bathroom did not work. The same bathroom, the door wouldn't close without sticking. Floors squeak throughout the cabin. If one person was awake, everyone was awake. The bedrooms had shear window coverings and provided no privacy, specifically after dark. Cleanliness could have been better. Shower curtain needed replaced and the corners of the bathroom had collected dirt, hair, etc from other stays. Glass picnic table on the deck may not have been addressed in a while. We couldn't find extra trash bags, which we thought odd. Interior looked like the pictures, but the exterior a little rough. Needed some attention. Parking space(s) and turn around was cumbersome, at best. We've stayed in better, but we have also stayed in worse. Check in went very well. First time at Red River Gorge. We would probably consider other options when in the area again.
We had a snowy stay at the cabin. The owner was very flexible - we checked in 4 hours early so we didn't have to drive through a snowstorm that night. They were very accommodating!Everything was clean, the hot tub was hot and ready, the views are spectacular, and you are tucked away in a little nook in the trees. A wonderful stay!
Cabin was perfect for family of four adults with varying interests. Great location for exploring state park and red river gorge. Cabin is very comfortable in fairly secluded location, enough trees to give some privacy especially compared to some other cabins in the area. Cabin was clean, mostly stocked with everything needed. Ping pong in basement is a bonus, and hot tub is very relaxing. Fire pit could use some enhancements, especially in comparison to others and kitchen is a bit dated but works fine. Cabin could use more plates and bowls.
We arrived right after the snow storm that froze pipes at many properties. The rental company bought us dinner and had maintenance working on getting it fixed. The property was lovely and very private. We will go there again.
To summarize my experience, I was not happy the moment I walked in. I felt extremely uncomfortable. There were dead flies all over the floor. We could not find any towels but one washcloth that was really an old yellow rag. The first rattle out of the hat I was sweeping, folding a load of sheets and towels and adding water to the hot tub. Not sounding like a vacation at all, huh. Letâs just talk about the furniture which was something I didnât want to relax on. To sum it up, it was a total fail. Failure on my part for renting it and failure on there part for not having it up to snuff. I felt like I was taken advantage of and the property manager did not help the situation. She was never in the office and refused to deal with problems or conflicts as she put it. Not sure how you do business if you donât handle those things. I hope the owners are aware of who and how these people are running there properties.
Simply Shaker Cabin was excellent! Very clean and nice! In the woods with views of Res River Gorge! Convenient to visit the Gorge and to visit Natural Bridge!
The management team was fantastic - friendly, responsive. And the property had such potential. But, for example, the A/C doesn't reach to the upstairs master, and the ceiling fans weren't all in working order. The master was easily 15 degrees warmer than the first floor. Also, there aren't screens on any of the windows to open for fresh air. The hot tub deck is super slanted which makes the hot tub a little uncomfortable and causes much of the water to slosh out when you get in. The place was furnished on the absolute cheap. Many kitchen/dresser drawers don't open or extremely difficult to open/close, uncomfortable chairs, no streaming capabilities, etc. The king bed was comfortable and so was the couch. And the location was great! I think I just had expectations of higher quality.
The cabin was very nice and comfortable. The back deck was great, enjoyed it in the mornings and evenings. We used the fire pit one evening and cooked on the outside grill twice. The kitchen was very well stocked and everything was nicer than we were even expecting. We took extra dish towels and dish cloths with us which did come in handy. We were pleasantly surprised to only encounter maybe 10 bugs inside and out in 3 days. There were a few things that needed updated or added. The couch definitely needs replaced. If I hadnât brought a throw from home to place on it I wouldnât have sat on it. The dishwasher worked but didnât clean. I ended up hand washing 3 meals of dishes the morning we were trying to pack up to leave. I tried 3 different settings but none got the job done. The freezer keeps ice frozen but definitely not ice cream. The stairs leading upstairs need a handrail. Updating the decor on walls would add so much to this already beautiful cabin.
