Lovely rental near Perpignan

A lovely house at the foot of the Pyrenees nearby the sea and mountains, lots of things to visit in the area and a great private pool. Situated at the very end of a winding mountain road means it has a lovely view and calm environment. Even though it was quite warm (30-35°C) the house was cool enough even though there was no air conditioning (keep those shutters closed!

Great views

Stayed in July 2024. Great views and a good location for getting to go to beaches and the foothills. Villa was rustic but clean inside. Would have been nice if the pool and area had been cleaned before our arrival. However there were nets to clean it with and someone came mid week. Overall though a lovely stay

Amazing views of the mountains and sea

We had a very enjoyable week's stay in August 2018 at the villa which was set on the top of a hill up some lovely winding roads with some stunning views of the mountains and sea. The most impressive view was from the lovely balcony with comfy sofas and a table and chairs where we enjoyed our breakfast and other meals each day. There were only 3 of us so we had plenty of space as the villa was set over 2 floors. The villa was well equipped with 2 bathrooms with showers in the main building and a well equipped modern kitchen. There was plenty of seating to chill after a busy day. The pool was great for cooling down from the heat of the day. We did not use the downstairs flat. It was about a 10 minute drive down the winding hill into Laroque Des Alberes which was a nice little town with a selection of restaurants. We tried the pizzeria and the Cafe Des Artistes which was run by an Irish couple. We also visited Ceret which was great for the art gallery and restaurants and Coulliere which was a lovely seaside harbour/beach with lots of cobbled streets full of shops and restaurants. You have to get there early to park though. We also visited the Valley of the Tortoises which was about 20 minutes away and was a nice little Tortoise zoo for a half day trip. We flew to Toulouse and can highly recommend the scenic drive on the D117 recommended by Oliver to Laroque as the views were amazing. It was quite a long drive but we broke it up with photo and refreshment stops. What a great place to visit and a great location.

Sometimes a beautiful view is just not enough....

Sometimes a beautiful view is just not enough to compensate for the deficiencies and discomforts in the accommodation. The view is indeed spectacular, the location is ideal if like us you have dogs and want immediate access to beautiful and quiet walks, and the terrace has very comfortable sofas for enjoying the views. However, this house really is desperately in need of some TLC: - Not enough duvets for the number of beds ( those that were available had blood stains on them and the sheets mildew stains) - panes of glass cracked and taped up with sellotape - main front door lock broken so that the door could not be locked or unlocked from the inside (could only be locked and opened by going outside and using the door key) - broken furniture in bedroom - several light bulbs not working - No satellite or terrestrial TV. In fact TV unusable, despite owners directions about how to stream or cast using an App - broken shelves in the fridge (limiting storage space) - radiator propped up on bricks in the hallway - broken toilet seat in downstairs shower room But worse than any of this is the owner's attitude. We arrived at 9 pm on a Saturday night having picked up provisions on the way, only to find not one single sheet of toilet paper in the entire house. When we finally managed to contact the owner (he had written his mobile phone number down on the house information incorrectly) he was indifferent and seemed to think that it was not a legitimate expectation that there would be any toilet paper because it was a "self catering arrangement". Furthermore, following a fault in the plumbing which resulted in raw sewage flooding the downstairs shower room and hallway, and taking over an hour to clean up (by us), we received a perfunctory apology from the owner and the offer of a cheap bottle of red wine by means of recompense. When he was challenged on his lack of customer service, we were informed that he "just takes the bookings", (omitting to mention that he also takes the money!) and that he would give us our money back if we wanted to leave - this was on the third day of a 10 day holiday! This could be a really wonderful holiday destination and worth a 5 star review if some care and attention were applied not just to the property, but also to the paying customers.

A fabulous place to come and relax!

Our 3rd visit to this wonderful hill top, our 2nd stay at the lovely villa. Villa caters for 1 big family or 2 medium sized families. Plenty of space to spread out and not be on top of each other. We have never been disappointed and we find it so lovely to feel that we are in a real home. This is then enhanced more with great pool, BBQ area, and views to die for!! Will certainly return. A lovely villa with exceptional views, perfect for a relaxing holiday.

We stayed in this lovely villa for two weeks in August 2017 and had a fabulous holiday. We are a family of 6 with three teenage boys and an 8 year old. The house was just how it was described on the website. The downstairs apartment was useful as a place to change for the pool and we used the fridge in there for drinks etc. We had a few lazy days by the pool but most of the time we were out and about. The beaches are lovely and not too busy. The lake at Saint-Jean-Pla-de-Corts was a favourite with the boys with its inflatables on the water, pedalos and zip wire across the lake. The inflatables cost €8 for an hour and are great fun for all ages. Collioure is a lovely place for a day trip but very busy with tourists so an early start is recommended. We enjoyed walking up the driveway from the villa and going out on to the mountainside and went on a few walks. The pathways are signposted and the views are breathtaking. We used the tennis court a couple of times. It is next to the public pool 5 minutes downhill from the villa. The pool looked nice although we didn't use it as the pool at the villa was lovely. The tennis court is free to use, you just need to write your name and villa address on the booking sheet at the court. It was well used in the evenings when it was cooler. We ate in the villa most nights making use of the barbecue and sitting on the terrace or the balcony taking in the amazing views. We ate in the pizzaria in the village one evening which was delicious. All in all we had a very peaceful holiday in Laroque des Alberes especially when our boys were making use of the wifi and we were drinking wine on the balcony watching the sun go down. We hope to return one day.

Second stay just as enjoyable as the first

We vacationed there in July 2016, and enjoyed it so much we returned for a week this year. This is the best way I can recommend this property - it is the first time we have returned to a summer rental.

An excellent villa in the foothills of Mont Albere

We were a party of eight and had a fantastic three week holiday at this villa. Everything in the original description was confirmed with our visit and the pool (good size) just added to our relaxation. Perfect location in the foothills with excellent views to the sea. Good restaurants both locally and at the coast (20 minutes drive). The villa provided excellent value for money and certainly there is so much to do, sightseeing, beaches etc. that even three weeks could be considered as not long enough. Overall a superb holiday for a family of three generations in a well maintained villa.

Fantastic views, great for relaxation and exploration

My friends and I had a lovely time at this house. The view from the balcony is breathtaking! There is plenty to see and do in the area - our highlights were visits to Ceret for the art gallery, Collioure for a glass of banyuls in the harbour, and lunch up at the Chalet de l'Albere. The house is very comfortable with good kitchen and bathrooms. I hope to come back soon!

Very enjoyable week

The view from the terrace is something to die for! Whatever problems we had are more than compensated by the positives: 1. The view, especially the sunrises 2. The pool – size and privacy 3. The modern kitchen 4. The good bed in the master bedroom These are sufficient to make us want to come back, and to recommend it to others. But a few negatives should be noted: there was no TV as promised; instructions were lacking for the Wifi connection, which was intermittent; and we needed more information on the use of the oven and washer.

Exceptional views

At the very top of the domaine, this very comfortable house has the most amazing views. The balcony, complete with comfy sofas, was a lovely place for a glass of wine and the total peace and quiet was just what we needed. We loved the village of Laroque des Alberes and ate in nearly all the restaurants with Lily's probably our favourite, closely followed by Cafes des Artistes (run by an Irish couple). Great food, good prices. If you like total peace, magnificent views and relaxation this is a perfect place and worth the climb to get there. Wouldn't recommend taking the Aston down the house drive tho !!

Great Location and lovely villa

Our family had a lovely vacation at Olivers' villa. It is a really beautiful house, well kept and clean. The view from the veranda is unbeatable. Lots of things to do in this area, both for kids and grownups. The village is also very nice. Elaine was very helpful throughout our stay. Only "problem" was the weather - it was actually a bit too hot in mid-July.

Great week,great place.

The property was very comfortable and relaxed, perfect for a mixed age range from grandparents to toddler. The views from the verandah are fantastic, relax, glass of wine or three, watch the lights coming on below. The pool was toddler proof and the barbecue area a treat. The local village was lovely and friendly, would reccommend the Cafe desArtistes for coffee, snacks, Restaurant La Catalan for first class food. On the coast, good seafood to be had in Colliour and at ArgelesPlage, the latter less expensive, however the beaches have weird sand, very gritty. The large water park near St.Cyprien was enjoyed by the children and younger adults. Further afield VilleFrancheDeConflent is well worth visiting, especially the caves. Our only regret was that we only had a week as their is so much to see in the area.

Interesting area, great villa

This house provided a perfect base for exploring the whole region of Pyrenees Orientales. It sits in the Alberes mountains and has stunning views. We were a group of 8 adults who love walking and I have to say that the fact that the house sits in the Alberes mean that you just have to walk out of the door and there is a myriad of clearly marked paths which allow you to explore the stunning forests that separate France and Spain. One day we climbed to the top and found an ancient chapel and just sat there for hours admiring the views. We also walked higher up in the Pyrenees towards the Canigou which was harder walking but very scenic. My key recommendation to anyone is to take the Train Jeune. It is the best way to leisurely see what is one of the most beautiful areas in France – in an open top train along a narrow gauge train. A great day out and was one of the highlights of the holiday. When we were not walking were exploring and found the villages in the Pyrenees just glorious and so beautifully early medieval. So many ancient monasteries and stunning fortresses – Montesegur was our favourite. On the coast we felt Collioure was amazing and the restaurants there were numerous and very high quality. We also loved Argeles which is bit more of a chips and beer place but the beach was huge and lovely. The sea food restaurants in Port Vendres are lovely as well and for €20 you can get a delicious 3 course meal. All in all a very interesting region of France and I found the villa was just so perfect as it was very lovingly put together and provided the peace and serenity you need for a very relaxing holiday. We will return Mary

Breathtaking views, well furnished, lovely owner

I will never forget this villa. The setting is just outstanding. It sits on top of a group of houses on the side of the hillside and has incredible views across the Alberes to the Med in the distance. The sunsets are incredible and it is just so peaceful. We loved the facilities. The kitchen is brand new and very modern and is perfect for preparing good meals. The barbecue area is great as well and is shaded which is great as lunchtime can be quite a hot time of day. Go to the markets in Ceret and Collioure for superb local produce. The local Carrefour is actually very good as well and very near. You should spend time up in the mountains as well. The area is very historic and medieval and there are some beautiful villages as you go up into the Pyrenees. Try the road that takes you up to Prades. It is a little bit wild but very interesting. Superb beaches very near the villa. The biggest and best is North Argeles which is very big, never crowded and then you just pop into Argeles for lunch and shopping. Very convenient and there are life guards always present. Overall we had a great time. The villa is lovely, very peaceful yet very easy to get places. The region is great as well. We had not been here before but we will be coming back. Many thanks to Elaine, she was very good and really helped us

Just glorious

We stayed for a week last year and I have to say it was just perfect. To begin with Oliver responded to all our questions about the villa and local area very quickly and even recommended which car hire firm we should use and so the preparations was perfect. He really helped us plan our trip and therefore we knew what to do once we got there. We got there and I have to say that the location of this property is simply stunning. You feel as though you are on top of the world with just amazing views down the valley. I spent many a happy afternoon just floating in the swimming pool, staring down the valley and watching the wonderful birdlife of the Alberes. The villa has everything you need for a comfortable stay and Elaine is just so fantastic. We had a problem with the pool and she was up that evening and we had the problem solved very quickly. She is so friendly. I also loved the new kitchen, very modern and with all the mod-cons. Useful when we do not feel like barbecuing. The area is stunning and a little bit undiscovered as there are not the huge amounts of tourists in other areas so I would recommend this place to people who want to chill out a little and like good food and love the mountains and long sandy beaches. Collioure is just amazing and a little bit glamorous with a huge range of high quality restaurants. Argeles has the best beach (actually Le Racou was our favourite) and is great for kids. Have already booked my next trip and I can highly recommend this villa.

It was ok

We have to say that we were dissappointed about this house. The size was good with enough space for the 8 of us - but when we arrived we thought we had ended up at the wrong house. First of all - it smelled like a cellar when we opened the doors upstairs. All the sofa covers were so dirty that we did not sit down in one of the sofas the whole week. We had to remove the sunbed pillows as they were so dirty that none of us would like to lay on these and bought some new covers at Carrefour. The pool are was nice size - but also here we had to clean the whole area around as it was not cleaned for ages. The worst experience however where when the persons in the downstairs apartment should go to bed - the bed linnens were dirty (with hairs on it) - lucily they found some spare ones and were able to put them on before they went to bed. There were also a lot of ants all over on the outsiden + a lot of mosquitos which bit us during the evenings/nights - so bring your protection against these. BTW the internet connection is also barely working. Laroque des Alberes were a fantastic little town and the view vere very nice.

Amazing stay in Laroque

We rented this house for a week and it was just perfect. The house has everything you need for a comfortable stay. During the booking process, Oliver replied quickly at my e-mails and he even called me back so I was assured everything would be ok, when I wired the money to his account. On arrival he just forgot to sent us the welcome e-mail, but when I called him he immediately called me back and told me everything. Overall we had an amazing stay and really loved to sit on the terrace and enjoy the stunning view! We will definitely come back.

Perfect vacation

This Villa was the perfect location for my 60th birthday celebrations. It is spacious, clean, well equipped and well maintained. With 10 adults and 2 small children, there were enough quiet areas were one could read, relax and get a few moments away from the crowd. We had great Barbeques on the back terrace and long, leisurely dinners on the front terrace with the Mediterraean in our view. We spend time around the pool on our slow days. The trails in the mountains were excellent and used by many of the group, even the two and four year olds went to the fountain and cave on an early morning hike. The area has plenty of activities for children as well as sights to seen by the older crowd. The village has excellent restaurants. We would not change a thing about our two weeks at the villa. It is definitelyon our list of places to visit again.

I lived in France for many years in my youth and grew to love the interesting, varied and beautiful country.

Have been running this property for 7 years now and have really developed efficient systems for ensuring guests have a great holiday and enjoy all the benefits of the Languedoc region

Pourquoi avoir choisi cet hébergement ?

The key to this property is the sheer beauty of the location. It sits in the Alberes and is quite high up into these small mountains. The views seem to follow you around as they are present in so many areas of the villa.

There is a lovely private pool with the villa with the aforementioned views and the villa has a total of six comfortable bedrooms and is really perfect for large groups wishing to explore and enjoy this wonderful region of France. It has castles, beaches, endless vineyards, medieval villages, Barcelona and some of the best restaurants in France. You will never be bored in Languedoc.

Quels sont les atouts de cet hébergement ?

It has 5 bedrooms and a private pool which is not overlooked in any way.

The villa has 3 bathrooms and on the lower floor there is a annexed apartment with it private kitchen, bathroom and living areas with Sky TV and so on.

There is a lovely balcony at the property with stunning views and a barbecue area on the rear terrace with lovely views down to the Mediterranean in the distance.

As the property is quite high it is also cooler in the summer months and seem to escape that oppressive summer heat you get on the plain of Rousillon. During the evening you get the 'tramontanes' as the cooler wind from the mountain tops rolls down the mountain side and these can be very refreshing after a hit day at the beach.

All in all this is a lovely, well managed property in a very interesting and beautiful area of France.
