There's much to recommend the Hobby Horse but the woodland path access to the beautiful rocky beach which we found excellent for swimming on some unusually hot June days can't be beat!
Hobby Horse was a wonderful "home away from home" for the week. The dogs had property to roam, plenty of ammentities in the house to never want to camp again, the the water access was amazing to go down and have coffee in the morning. Close enough for hiking, but out enough that youre not in the commotion of the big cities!Throughly enjoyed our stay!
Nice rustic cottage. Private. Fully equipped. Good WiFi and tv service.
Nice for a small group or family. Fully equipped kitchen. Space heaters for chilly mornings. Plenty of towels, sheets and blankets. Just left nice info package of places to go.
Excellent location, a beautiful property. The kids loved going down to the beach everyday. Close proximity to all the wonderful things Maine has to offer in the area.
My husband and I spent three nights over our anniversary at the cabin and had such a relaxing, fun time. Everything was just as pictured and great location. The cabin is very comfortable and short drive from Bar Harbor and Acadia. Lots to do in the area. We hope to return again.
Little chilly this time of year but space heaters did the trick.
Cozy, rustic little cabin in the woods. We were quite comfortable and the location worked well for us. Liked the windows in the LR and charm/history of the place.
Husband and I stayed here to celebrate our wedding anniversary 30th. The kitchen was well equipped for cooking and had microwave, coffee maker, as well as all the pans and dishes needed. Beach was a short walk away and fun to explore. Cool breeze from ocean was lovely in the evening.
We spent 8 nights at the Hobby Horse and found it more than met our expectations. We loved all of the woodwork, the pictures, the knick knacks and the ambiance. Coupled with modern wiring, a 4k tv, and strong internet it was brought into the modern world nicely!
Such a lovely cabin. The pictures donât show off how cute this place is. The location is perfect. Itâs calm around and Acadia and Bar Harbor arenât that far away. The beach is only a few minute walk from the porch too.
Liberal we loved it would would definitely come back for future Acadia trips!
Such a cute spot to stay. Surry, Maine is a quiet small town and our VRBO was nestled in a small cluster of homes right up against Contention Cove. Two minute walk to the beach, all the necessary amenities will definitely make this a place to come back to!
Even better than the listing! Well appointed with plenty of dishes and linens. Ocean access down the hill was wonderful. Great location for those going to Ellsworth and Acadia.
Very clean, nice location, kitchen was well supplied for cooking family meals.
Overall we enjoyed our stay.
Only drawback was an extremely worn out bed. Woke up to a sore back every day.
Would have given 5 stars overall if not for that.
We were relaxed and at home from the moment we pulled up to the cabin. The location was very convenient--close enough to amenities and activities that you didn't have to be gone for the whole day if you didn't want to, yet far enough from hustle and bustle that you could just enjoy the sounds of nature. Our kids enjoyed the beach and exploring in the woods near the house. It got very cold on a couple of mornings so the whole house was damp, but once we pulled out the space heater it fixed that within an hour or two. There aren't a few modern things (dishwasher, washer and dryer) that we have grown accustomed to having, but we had no problem washing dishes by hand and going to the laundromat only a few miles away when we needed to. Overall, a great time that we all enjoyed.
We loved the cabin during our 7 days staying here. Pictures donât do the place justice, as itâs much more homey and cozy than it looks. Place was perfect for having 2 kids, they got their own room. The cabin itself is like stepping back in time, everything feels vintage in a great way. We were able to walk to the water, and look for shells during low tide. Only a few little things to note when booking. It is a drive to get to Acadia/Bar Harbor (30-45min). We didnât mind, and basically just went out to Acadia once a day, and crashed when we got back. Thereâs no heating or AC. Was not a problem for us, since the weather was perfect for open windows, but something to be aware of. The master bed is very soft, which was fine for me, but terrible for my wife with a bad back. Everything else was perfect and beyond our expectations, especially considering the price. We would definitely stay here again!
Oh, how we loved this cabin! We have stayed at rental cabins all around the U.S. and this is one of the very best and a new favorite! We never met our hosts in person (which is fine), but we felt very well taken care of because the house is so welcoming, clean, and well stocked with everything we could possibly have needed during our week-long stay. We appreciated the super easy check-in/check-out process, the generous supplies provided by the host, and the incredible, private, charming location. The cabin is tucked away in a cute hillside, wooded neighborhood in Contention Cove and was easy to find with GPS. We loved every single detail about the cabin; itâs so charming and homey. We had our dog with us, and enjoyed walking along the quiet gravel roads in the neighborhood and down to the beach. (The path is well-maintained but a little steep for folks who are not so steady on their feet; just take it slow. My 80-year-old mother made it down there, just going very carefully and using a walking stick for extra balance.) It was easy to open up several windows in the cabin for some fresh forest air at night and we did not have any problem sleeping comfortably without air-conditioning. The shower was hot, the beds were comfortable, and the full kitchen was well-stocked. Pretty much, everything was perfect about our stay. The only problem was that we eventually had to leave! :) Thank you kindly to the Caddoo family for sharing this wonderful family summer home with us!
We were looking for a nice rustic cabin with privacy that had water access. The cabin was the perfecr place. Check in process was easy. Great location if you want a place that is private but still commutable to area attractions. The only reason i give it 4 stars instead of 5 was the lack of ceiling fans in the bedrooms and even a window air conditioner would have been great. It was very humid during our stay so nights were a bit uncomfortable. Still loved the place.
Lovely Maine cottage. Quietly peaceful. Walked down to the lake each night to hear the loons. Easy, but busy, drive to Acadia National Park. Thank you.
I was there for a month. The weather was chilly and rainy for my first week and a half so I had to rely on the space heater. The rest of the time the box fans helped with the humidity. A split system AC/ heat pump would be helpful, especially if you have allergies, as I do. The cottage had pretty much all one would need and help was available if needed.
We loved this cabin. It was a rustic, simple, quiet retreat from the hustle and bustle of sightseeing. We would go all day touring and then come back and relax in this quiet atmosphere. It was very clean and accommodating. The host even brought us some farm fresh eggs.
We loved our stay at Hobby Horse and hope to return! Very special and unique place which is what we were hoping for. Thank you for providing such a special place to relax and enjoy!
