Joan and Jim guided us in to a beautiful country cottage on a quiet rural road. On arrival, Jim checked us in quickly and showed us around. As 2 couples, the property was perfect as we had 2 bedrooms with private bathroom or ensuite shower. The cottage has the most fantastic front garden with a proper cottage garden which saw a lot of late evening use with a glass or two and nibbles đ
There is a public footpath which takes you past some very friendly animals and along to the working brickworks.
You do need to drive to anything but we didn't find this an issue as we self catered a lot and made full use of the kitchen. The washing machine was also useful when we got caught in a proper Cumbrian shower!!!
We soon discovered that Coniston and Windermere were really quite local, nearer than we thought in fact. Ulverston is a great town with everything you could want. We would recommend the fishmonger for the seafood platter, which we picked up on our way to Cartmel races which was also very close.
We played 3 rounds of golf, Dunnerholme, Grange Fell and Furness GC which were all very friendly and challenging.
Thanks for a great stay and we hope to return soon.
Beautiful cottage in a lovely, tranquil location. Cottage has everything you need and more and the owners, Joan and Jim were friendly and helpful. Will definitely recommend Tom's Cottage and hope to return one day. Thanks Joan and Jim x
Absolutely perfect, we had everything we needed for our week. Beautiful and quiet and Joan and Jim are lovely and couldn't have been more helpful.

jederzeit wieder.
Ruhige Lage, sauber, urgemĂŒtlich, Vögel, Natur pur, idealer Ausgangspunkt fĂŒr Unternehmungen im Lake District. Vermieter sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend. Schnuckeliges Cottage mit viel RĂ€umen.
We stayed at this cottage as we had heard from some friends that it would be just right for us. And this was so true! Peace and quiet, but easy access to shops, pubs and many places of interest. The cottage was warm and very well equipped- dishwasher, fridge, freezer, washer etc and a wide range of kitchen equipment. 2 bathrooms, a super sun room/conservatory. free WiFi, a large Samsung Smart TV, and TV's in both double bedrooms. a downstairs loo, - very handy! Garden furniture in the both front garden and rear courtyard garden. BBQ.
The owners were very helpful and friendly, but were not 'in your face'.
We would certainly go again.
This is Jim's family home. He came here when he was six years old, with his parents, Tom and Hazel. They used the end part of the house as a granny flat for Tom's parents, and that part is now a holiday cottage named Nell's Cottage, after his Grandmother. Jim left when he married, and then Jim and Joan moved into the house when Tom died, in 1996. Joan took early retirement at the same time, having worked as a trained nurse all her working life, finally becoming the Community Nurse Manager.Jim extended the house, and they did B&B for 11 years, in the middle part of the house and they lived in the new extension. They were an award winning B&B, having won a 4* rating and a Silver Award from the tourist board. In 2012, they retired from B&B. As many of the B&B guests had enjoyed staying at Park Cottage, and loved the area, Jim converted that part of the house into a second holiday cottage, calling that part Tom's Cottage, after Jim's Dad.
This property was the home of Jim, his two sisters and their parents. Jim loves the place, and would never sell it. He says he will only leave the place when he is in his coffin!
Peace and tranquility. No noisy traffic - we are up a private road. We partially overlook a large trout lake, and fishing permits are available.and we have some lovely views of the lake district fells -Scafell, Coniston Old Man, etc. The bird life is prolific, 34 types in and around our 3.5 acre grounds,(mainly steep woodland) and a further 32 types at the lake and the nearby farm. The farm breeds horses, and rescues older horses, and they roam freely outside our grounds. Many of them are huge shire horses. One of the Queen's drum horses was retired here, called 'Chocolate Box'.
