At 45 minutes from the el Portal gate, this was a perfect place to stay when all the lodgings closer to Yosemite were full. The house was clean and spacious, with lots of closet space, a hot tub,an exceptional kitchen, and deer in the yard. Better bedding would have made it perfect.
We had a great time at this VRBO home. It was spacious, clean, kitchen was fully stocked, and the wifi worked well. This VRBO home is a 1.5 hour drive from 3 parts of Yosemite National Park - Valley Village, Glacier Point, and Mariposa Grove. During non-peak weekend, it may take less than 1.5 hours. This VRBO home is a 10 min drive from Mariposa which has cute cafes, restaurants, and groceries stores.
Great home in beautiful area. All the comforts! 2 bedrooms each with a bathroom makes an en-suite. Great location & easy to get to Yosemite. WiFi worked with no issues. Hot tub was great after a day in the park! Owners were very responsive when I had a question. Enjoy
This beautiful home was as listed and perfect for our needs. The kitchen was well stocked for our meal prep and the home was very comfy overall. Great location if you are visiting Yosemite!
The home was well appointed, nicely furnished and comfortable, plus wonderful pots and pans for those of us who enjoy cooking. We loved the quiet environment and slept like logs!!
This was a return trip to this property - again, a perfect stay. Great communication with the owner, very comfortable, well appointed mountain home. We enjoyed the hot tub even in the rain, and relaxing by the fire inside, as well as a winter visit to Yosemite (45 min drive away).
Suffice to say, Kathleen, Alex and Sydney went above and beyond to look out for our well-being during an unusually stormy January. Their cabin was the perfect refuge. Would love to stay again.
This was our second time staying here, and it was just as nice as our first. The host Kathleen was very communicative, helpful and accommodating from the beginning. The place is well-kept, stocked with the essentials, and situated in a nice natural area that is perfect for a relaxing family get-away. We hope to return again soon!
Our family stayed in the property as a base for visiting Yosemite. Excellent property and great location to do day trips to the park, which was about an hour to Yosemite Valley. We enjoyed the seclusion of the home but also were able to go into Mariposa to eat at some excellent restaurants. Very friendly and responsive hosts. Highly recommend this property.
Enjoyed the 3-day weekend with my adult kids in this hidden gem in the Sierras. Property is lovely with amazing country roads and ponds. Close to Yosemite and Bass Lake. I could just hang out on the deck all morning!
The property was sparkling clean, and the beds were comfortable. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need to cook a full meal. Kathleen is a wonderful host, and I enjoyed meeting her. I would definitely stay here when I am in the Sierra again.
Awesome place! In the middle of no were but perfect for visiting Yosemite. The kitchen is equipped with most everything, which is what we want - we don't care to eat out while on vacation and hiking. The deck needs some maintenance but other than that it was clean and comfortable. I would stay here again if we are ever in the area.
This is our third stay at this comfortable cabin, in a quiet wooded hillside. One hourâs drive to Yosemite Valley (El Portal entrance). Nice amenities - hot tub, wood burning fireplace (wood stove), kitchen that opens to the dining and living area, high ceilings. Great for a cozy winter stay! Great communication with the host.
Overall this was the perfect home base for a quick weekend trip to Yosemite. Some of the roads in the area are a bit rough, so be ready! We recommend coming in from closer to Mariposa. Otherwise you are in for a steep and windy gravel road.
We LOVED this property!! My kids didnât want to leave. It had everything you could want!! Cozy beds great kitchen! A lot of room!! Very clean! It was great having laundry after long hikes at Yosemite. Yosemite is about a 45 minute drive but it wasnât bad. Grocery store was close. I highly recommend! It was very peaceful!!
Pretty amazing remote place. Quiet. The only questionable aspect of the property was the bedroom.
Difficult to sleep in with a skylight over the bed. Also, the bed had a mattress topper that made it too soft for our liking.Responsive host.
The house is very well located near the small town of Mariposa and near the road to the entrance of Yosemite National Park. The house fits up to six people and we used it in a group of five. One shower and toilet is limited to one room with a sink in the room itself. The other 4 guests need to share one bathroom.
The A/C is perfect. The outside deck needs a little upgrade. Also the ice cube machine was not working but the owner said it will be replaced.
I would always recommend this place even though the master bedroom mattress was far too soft for us. But this is individual taste.
Kathleen and Alex moved to Midpines 21 years ago to enjoy the natural beauty of the area and spend as much time in Yosemite as possible. Kathleen is an Architectural Designer and specializes in Straw Bale Home design. She is also very busy raising twin teenage boys. Alex is a trained Engineer and teaches mathematics at the local public High School.
Our secluded oak retreat is incredible for enjoying sunsets, star gazing, wild flowers and bird watching all from the comfort of the deck, hot tub, or large windows in the living-room. This custom home was designed by a local designer with lots of special details. The open beam ceiling, gable windows and skylights allows the home to feel light and spacious.
