My family of 4 stayed here for a week during the Bay Area's ski week while our kids were out of school. We hit Bear Valley two times for skiing and explored the area on the off days. The house was perfect for our needs. The pictures don't do it justice for how great the house is - massively high ceilings, great layout - we loved it. The house was also the most equipped kitchen we have ever stayed in!
In terms of the ammenities, the house was really lovely and very high quality. The kitchen was very well stocked with dishes, pans, etc. for any kind of cooking. The wifi was also good.
There was an unusually severe snow storm during our stay and Simon (the host) was really attentive to us. He contacted us to check on what kind of car we had, whether we had chains, kept us up-to-date on local conditions, and texted us frequently to make sure everything was okay. We are not used to snow conditions, and so we really appreciated it.
I came for quiet and relaxation in a secluded, restful environment, near outdoor things to do, and that's exactly what I got! Plus...it was in a wonderful, palatial house and deck that had more comforts, upgrades, and technology than I have at my real home (and at home I lack for nothing.) I could go on, but let me finish with a quick story. I'm the type, as in some Asian and European cultures, to take off my shoes when I enter a house. Then I put on house shoes, slippers, or socks. This house was so clean and the wood floor so nice that I walked around barefoot the whole time. It just felt so good. That little story and in so many other ways is how the stay was beyond my expectations. Simon, the owner, was also great to work with.
This property is a gorgeous house tucked away in the middle of the woods. It is mid-way between Murphys and Arnold, so a short drive to either. The house has a large open-area kitchen/dining room/living room with a back deck and a hiking trail within walking distance. The owner is very responsive and conscientious.
Simon and his home were wonderful. If youâre looking for a secluded space for a few days you wonât go wrong. The home is situated between two small towns with a lot of wineries and restaurants. Simon was great too! Very communicative and friendly. Bare in mind that there is no service.
We have been renting up and down from Murphys to Arnold, and this house is by far our best find. It has all the musts, including an AC, a fantastic patio and a lot of space. We liked privacy, serenity, the space and the closeness to a nearby hike with breathtaking views.
The host is awesome and attentive to details.
I would rent again.
Thank you Simon!
Calaveras County is a gem we want to keep a secret! With most people always going to Tahoe, we decided to reconnect to an area my husband grew up visiting as a child. The purpose of most of our vacations is to slow down and get away from our busy city life hustle and bustle. Murphys offered serenity and recharging that our little family needed. The drive was almost three hours from the East Bay and no traffic at all on the 4.
The architecture of the home is beautiful. The owner has his part of the home that guests cannot enter/use but the two bedrooms and one bathroom for guests is more than enough space for a family of four. If you have little children, this home is perfect because its one story. The open floor plan makes it easy to keep an eye on them when cooking in the kitchen. The kitchen was stocked with all cooking essentials. The bathroom is spacious - especially the huge shower. We enjoyed having some meals on the deck right next to the living room and breathing in all the fresh air! We enjoyed walking down the driveway into the roads that lead to the home for a short walk. For more adventurous hikes the state park is about 10 minute drive from the home. Murphy's main area is filled with wine tasting rooms, restaurants, and shops. It's a quaint town and we loved the slow feel and hospitality from all the places we visited.
Owner left food recommendations and simple house instructions/rules. There is WiFi. But if you have ATT, your cell phone will not work unless you're on WiFi. We appreciated the fast response times in answering our questions before our stay. Such an easy booking process and we look forward to future stays here!
I spent four nights here with my daughter and we both thought this house and property was awesome! Well provisioned, spacious and comfortable, nestled in the tress with easy access to some great hikes. I cannot say enough about what a great value this is and how much we truly enjoyed our stay here!
Wonderful secluded house surrounded by great views. Nights were peaceful with no noise. Simon is a great host, very responsive and our stay was comfortable. Kitchen is well equipped. If you want to ski itâs 45 minutes drive to Bear Valley.
We very much enjoyed our stay. The home is in a very quiet, secluded location, yet very comfortable with a large well-stocked kitchen, open living area, and large deck. Location is close to restaurants in Murphys and Arnold, and lots of outdoor activities. Would definitely recommend.
This is an amazing homeâexpansive, well-appointed, private, and luxurious. I thoroughly enjoyed the large, shaded deck, where I could enjoy breezes and the natural landscape. This home had everything needed for a relaxing getaway, yet was near restaurants, grocery stores, and unique Sierra hikes. I'd gladly come back for another visit!
My husband, 2 kids & I greatly enjoyed our stay! The house is clean and well-appointed. Kitchen was well-stocked with spices, condiments, pots & pans, etc. The sunset views were spectacular & the isolated feel of this home was a welcome respite from the city. Close to White Pines Lake & Big Trees SP - both gorgeous! Communication with owner was excellent & happily answered our questions.
This house was absolutely amazing!! Beautiful inside and out. It has everything you need from pots, pans, to all your shower needs. Beautiful deck with a bbq pit and table to sit and relax the nice view. The house came with all the instructions you will need and the check in was so easy. Overall it was a great experience and I will definitely be going back.
This is a nice property and a wonderful location completely private. The closest house must be quarter to a half a mile away, you canât see any other properties from the house. Live in space is nicely furnished and has everything you need. The only challenge we had was in both of the bedrooms the beds are small, We are used to a king size bed so I think these mustâve been double or queens. We actually slept in separate bedrooms because of this. Other than that the property is really nice, beautiful decks all around surrounded by forest.
The views are stunning, the house was beautiful, and the land was perfect. We can up to play in the snow and we were lucky enough to have a couple inches on the ground at the house saving us from having to drive longer or pay. The pictures donât do the house justice in the inside, it is gorgeous! And the beds are so comfortable. Would love to come in the summer to explore more
This home was perfect for two couples. Itâs spacious, clean and quiet. We had tickets for a concert at Ironstone so we had lunch in Murphys then drove 10 minutes outside of town to this beautiful home. We hung out on the back patio until time for the concert. After the concert it was a quick and easy drive back. The home is extremely comfortable with plenty of clean towels and bedding. The kitchen is well stocked with all the staples. Itâs a beautiful home and communication with the owner was really easy. We highly recommend it and definitely will stay here again.
Lived here 25 years, rebuilt the house 10 years ago with all high class amenities. Been into yoga since I was a kid so this home is my ashram of peace.
The home is on 5 acres giving it space to enjoy the outdoor peace and quiet. It is exquisite inside and out, perfect place to relax, get centered and enjoy life.
Large Decks, High Ceilings, You will say wow when you walk in the front door; surrounded by forested open space on 5 acres, easy walk to Stanislaus valley overlook, 5 minute drive to Murphys shops and ten minutes to Arnold. Quiet and close to town and music, wine tours, and great places to eat. Lots of historic places to see and hike, fish or ski.
