Quiet and away from hubub
Quiet place, clean, safe, quirky. Directly on the water, and a large deck off the kitchen area makes for both great views and a quiet place to retreat to. Comfortable furniture. No wifi-not a big issue-nice to be away from it actually....Owner supplies a great collection/variety of DVD's and books-only issue was the only DVD player was in the bedroom-if we wanted to watch a movie my brother and I would have to pile into bed together, or move one of the easy chairs into the bedroom. No response from owner when I asked about this. Not a deal breaker-but admittedly frustrating....its a nice place and a refuge from the stress of funeral planning. The water at the cottage is well water, and when we were there, it stank to high heaven of sulfur. I live on a lake in a small cabin, with well water, so let this water run for awhile to clear the pipes, cycle the supply through- but it still stank-to the point where showering was a bit overwhelming....there is a filter on the sink for drinking water, and that helped a great deal and is very thoughtful. Something in the refrigerator was leaking water in the main compartment (these things happen)-we only used it for 12 pack of beer and soda-we had to clean that water up several times-I let owner know on the checklist you are required to complete on checking out....Small pet peeve-why no dish soap? There is a for sale sign on the property, and funnily, while we were there, a man approached me and asked if he could come in and look around....I politely refused....long and short-an economical place, quite clean, beautiful location, quiet, restful....and a little quirky.....not for anyone seeking glamorous surroundings, but a good place for those of us who prefer a stay in the country and don't mind things slightly rough around the edges....lots of smaller roads for walking, did a wee bit of biking, and seems a great place for those explorations as well- bring a kayak if you have one-I missed having mine. System won't let me give 3.5 stars, and I'd readily give it four stars except for that well water....
Total Overstatement. We made the best of it.
The photo may be of lake Webster, but it's not the view you'll wake up to. The dock to park our boat was in about 1-1/2 feet of dense, weed filled, backwater channel and also the view you'll look out on to from the deck. The outdoor garbage can hadn't been emptied, so we had to put garbage out on the deck, which the animals of course tore up every night. There are no curtains or blinds in the living room, so forget about being "comfy", since the neighbors can look right in. All of the closets were pad locked closed so don't worry about hanging your clothes. The cookware is in very poor shape and needs replacing. They say there is a Keurig coffee maker, but there isn't. If asked if we would spend our vacation here again, we would say no.
Now that I've ragged on about the things we didn't like, I'll give a few positives. The place is redone, the paint is relatively fresh and it was clean. The bed in the master was comfortable, the carpet was nice. There are air conditioners in the living room and both bedrooms.
Great cottage right on the lake.
The house was very clean upon arrival. It was everything we needed for a weekend stay. I do have a couple suggestions. The railing around the wrap around deck is very wobbly and needs replaced. Also it would be nice to have outdoor lights for playing cornhole at night. Lastly, we noticed one side of the house had tall piles of scrap wood and boards laying around the yard. Cleaning that up would make it look better. That would be a nice touch to draw people out for activities on the property. Overall we had a great stay.
We stayed at the cottage during a short visit to Indiana for a family reunion. The rooms were clean. The beds were comfortable and the kitchen was equipped with the necessary utensils. The mornings on the deck with a cup of coffee were my favorite times.
Very cozy, quiet cottage beside the lake
Certainly much more of a spring, summer, or fall destination but suited our need nicely for or son’s basketball tournament. Owner accommodations were well appreciated. Well insulated from the cold. May need an upgrade on cooking pots and pans but otherwise suitable. Internet service not available and would make a nice upgrade to cottage. Overall very pleasant.
