Escape to the pedestrian Lakeland village of Hawkshead with a stay at this beautiful chocolate-box cottage. Sleeping five guests across three bedrooms, this is the perfect base for families and groups of friends planning days of Lake District adventures together. With Hawkshead on your doorstep, it couldn't be easier to head out and uncover its wealth of traditional pubs and cafes, as well as some popular national park attractions – including the National Trust's Beatrix Potter Gallery. For some outdoor adventures nearby, the likes of Tarn Hows, Esthwaite Water, and the shores of Windermere all await within 5 miles, giving you a good choice of lakeside loops and scenic cruises. If you're looking for something more active, nearby Grizedale Forest (2.5 miles) offers excellent mountain bike and sculpture trails, including Go Ape Grizedale for adrenaline seekers.
Step inside this exquisite cottage and find that its 16th-century character blends easily with modern comforts, setting the scene for a comfortable Lake District stay. Be greeted by the heart of the home – the light-filled and open-plan living space which combines a kitchen with a cosy lounge and dining space. Unwind in the lounge after long days of adventure; sink into the soft seating, flick on the Smart TV, and bask in the warmth of the roaring wood burner. When stomachs begin to rumble, the airy kitchen offers everything needed for a self-catered stay. Enjoy your holiday feasts at the table beside the window, or al fresco-style out in the courtyard. When it's time to call it a night, follow the cottage stairs to the first and second floors and take your pick from three restful bedrooms. The first floor hosts a master king-size bedroom with an en-suite shower room, as well as the well-appointed family bathroom. Up on the second floor await a double bedroom and a cosy twin, both offering far-reaching Lakeland views. All the bedrooms feature Smart TVs, perfect for lazy mornings.
Step out to the front to sit at the bench. To the rear, a shared courtyard invites the group to spill out under the sun for al fresco evening tipples and holiday meals. Out here, you'll also benefit from a secure outhouse with storage space for outdoor gear and bikes, a sink and hosepipe, plus a washing machine and clothes airer. Completing the offerings is one parking permit for a nearby car park – a bonus in this pedestrianised village.
