Set in the village of Gilsland, there are many amenities to hand within a 5 min walk - the local cafe which specialises in handmade cakes and sandwiches as well as providing basic shopping essentials like milk, bread, toiletries. There are 2 local pub , 1 serving food, and a part time post office. You can also walk within a couple of minutes down to the Hadrian's Wall milecastle ruins and look out over the waterfall. Further afield there are many other restaurants, cafes, pubs and shops. Not to mention the various sites of interest, including Hadrian's Wall and the roman forts/castles. There is an outdoor swimming pool leisure centre in nearby village along with private indoor swimming pool facilities which are charged by the hour (must be booked in advanced).
