Fantastic home in the woods of north Tahoe. Comfortable living room, modern kitchen, cozy beds, and a FANTASTIC hot tub! Thelma and Mark were very accommodating, and check in instructions could not have been easier. Only 20 minutes from North Star. Would definitely stay here again 100% of the time.
This house is reasonably priced compared to other rentals, but leaves a bit to be desired in some areas.
The listing says plenty of room for parking, but when we arrived, only part of the driveway had been plowed. We called the manager and the best he could do was let us park a couple of vehicles at one of their other properties up the street. We ended up shoveling part of the driveway ourselves to make more room.
One if the toilets had a bunch of toilet paper in it when we arrived (like a roll of TP had fallen in). We're home owners, so we found the plunger and tried to take care of it ourselves, but no luck. We called the property manager partway through the weekend, but since the housekeeper wasn't available to come fix it, we were out of luck. The other toilets started to clog as well (problem because the problem toilet was downstairs).
The kitchen is a decent size, but the appliances need some help. The refrigerator is missing a shelf above the vegetable bin, which reduces the storage available. Part of the display on the microwave doesn't work, so it makes it harder to operate. The labels for the oven controls are worn off, so you just have to keep pushing buttons and guessing until you press the right one. Also, the racks in the oven are hard to adjust (when we tried to move them, they would fall).
We've stayed in lots of houses in Tahoe and other cities. This is the first place I have stayed that didn't have any measuring cups or spoons or a vegetable peeler. The knives are super dull - to the point where we were afraid that we were going to cut ourselves.
The hot tub is nice, although the location is a bit odd (downstairs under the deck). During the winter the snow from above melts and drips on your head.
The internet went out for a few hours. The manager helped us figure out that it was a local outage.
Given the issues we had re: parking, internet and plumbing, I asked if they would discount our rental, but they refused. That was disappointing.
The living area is good. The bedrooms are fine. They could use some new towels.
If you are looking for a good deal, don't plan to do much cooking, don't mind shoveling snow and are fine with 3 star motels, you will probably like this place. If you like to cook and/or like 4 star hotels, this is not the place for you.
the house was TERRIFIC! Home away from home :)
Wifi is F-A-S-T.
Rooms and bath sizes are appropriate.
Kitchen is a great place to gather people around.
Though we spent more than an hour to get out to the freeway because one of the vans were having a hard time on the slopes (yes we did try to avoid old mountain road and terrace street)
Just some minor suggestions:
1. It would be best to attach a picture for your winter route.
2. Put a drape over the areas where guest are not supposed to go and see especially in the laundry area :) That is a place where kids might go play hide and seek and they may be hurt on the tools and other stuff.
3. On the receiving area downstairs, it would be great to position the heater fans as its the ideal place to dry up winter gears, shoes and socks.
4. A simple Christmas tree or just simple lights would be a nice touch in the living room area to give it more homey feel during winter holidays,
