Historically always a part of England, unlike Berwick, the village is best known for its famous annual ceremony, where Tweedmouth schools elect a 'Salmon Queen' to mark the beginning of 'Salmon Week', a tradition that dates all the way back to 1292. The surroundings of the village enjoy great proximity to a number of beaches, historical landmarks, as well as the Scottish border just a short distance to the north. Visitors to Tweedmouth can stock up on essentials at the Tesco Superstore or the M&S Simply Food food hall, whilst dining options in the village include The Riverside Cafe, Lee Garden, The Thatch and The Angel Inn. The neighbouring town of Berwick-upon-Tweed, offers a range of exciting things to do and see, such as roaming the historic grounds of Berwick Lighthouse, the Berwick-upon-Tweed Castle and Ramparts and the Town Hall, as well as the magnificent Royal Border Bridge, whilst those seeking to brush up on their local history can do so at the Berwick Museum and Art Gallery and the King's Own Scottish Borderers Regimental Museum.
