Beautiful secluded barn with great views
We stayed at Masketts Barn at the end of June for 4 nights. The Barn is huge, with 6 good size bedrooms, a large kitchen which is well equipped and has a tall fridge and a 5 drawer freezer which is in the utility area. The kitchen table seats 10. The two gardens are huge, one is a walled garden and the other overlooks the fields. There were 6 loungers and 2 tables with around 14 or so chairs in the garden, overlooking the fields.
The one major issue we had (which I should have picked up on before booking) is that there is only 1 shower and there were 13 of us. I read it had 2 bathrooms when booking, but didnât realise the second bathroom had a bath and no shower. The ceiling is very low over the bath and is difficult to get in and out, as you canât stand up in the bath. We did manage with the one shower, but it wasnât ideal and certainly would be no good if there were 13 women all wanting to shower before going out.
The other issue was it advertised a bbq. This was actually a small round charcoal bbq that would be fine for 3 or 4 people, but certainly not 13!! We had 2 bbqâs planned and luckily we managed to get one of our party who came later in the evening to bring our large gas bbq. I really do think that a BBQ should not be mentioned as it is very misleading and could have scuppered our dinner plans.
There were a few maintenance problems, one being the latch on the twin bedroom on the ground floor. It was broken so the door could not be kept shut, which meant it banged constantly all night.
Although there were a few niggles, the property is beautiful, the grounds are huge and open up onto some lovely walks and you definitely feel like you are in the countryside, no traffic noise at all, just beautiful views.
One thing to note is that the garden is not secure. There was a gate to the fields which is broken and doesnât close and there is no gate up to the parking area, which then leads to the outside. We had our dog with us who had a fabulous time running out into the fields and back, but if you have a dog that hasnât got good recall or is likely to wander off it might be a problem. The same goes for young children.
