Great place in OBX

Group of friends had a great time at Kitchen’s Salt House in late March. We especially liked the fire pit out by the canal. Would gladly come back!

What a great house. We had our three children, three grandchildren, son-in-law and always had plenty of space for everyone. The canal and Kayaks were a wonderful feature. Fabulous location with lots to do

We loved our time in Kitty Hawk, the location is perfect for the beach and the kids loved hanging out at the bay. The trails are perfect for running and cycling and the house is really comfortable and well equipped to cook and relax in the evening. We had a fabulous vacation.

Quiet, well appointed get away!

My family loves coming to stay at the Kitchen's Salt House! The house has plenty of room to spread out and areas where it's easy to spend time together. We love the amenities like kayaks and paddle boards, fire pit, outside games, and board games. So many ways to have fun together!The house is easy to access, clean, and has a kitchen with all of the equipment you would need. The hosts are easy to work with and helpful. We had a great visit and look forward to returning. Thank you!

Winter getaway

We enjoyed our stay! It was just what we were looking for to reconnect with friends and relax. The cool winter nights were great by the fire pit. We enjoyed kayaking during the day and long neighborhood walks.

Peaceful property

It is a lovely home. We very much enjoyed our stay And the neighborhood is quite peaceful. The owners are helpful and responsive. We especially enjoyed the fire pit in the back. We will certainly consider this property again the next time we head down there.

Fabulous OBX Stay

Had a wonderful time at the Salt House. It was a perfect fit for our family. The space is beautiful and the house sits in a beautiful neighborhood just minutes from southern shores beaches. Our kids love fishing in the canals and using the great kayaks and paddleboards. Looking forward to visiting again!

Perfect vacation spot

This property was perfect for our big family vacation. We had three families including four kids under nine. The property was very spacious and allowed for each family to have their own space. There was also plenty of activities at the house to keep everyone entertained. Our family really enjoyed taking the kayaks out in the evenings.

Lovely time

Perfect property for our family and children -- so many small touches added up to a memorable experience. It was particularly important for us to find a great house given that the weather this time of the year is unpredictable, and this fit the bill perfectly. The "back yard" was amazing for our kids.

The perfect retreat.

Great communication with the owners. House is just as perfect as the pictures depict. There were so many amenities that come along with the house that we didn’t really need to leave to enjoy OBX, other than hitting up the beaches. A hurricane breezed by just before the stay, but the yard was pristinely tended beforehand.

Great location with kids!

We had an amazing time at the house. It was clean and well stocked, though the basement bedroom is still a bit unfinished. Our kids were in heaven digging in our own “beach” and parents loved being able to supervise from the screen porch. It was convenient to everything, but we did go in spring so parking was easy. We even took the kids out in the kayaks to explore! Would definitely return.

Great place

We had a great stay. We loved the location, access to the canal for boating, open floor plan with windows, lots of comfortable beds, cool loft for kids, and beautiful kitchen. The only downside was that the house could have used a better deep cleaning - the bathrooms were a little mildewy, we found an empty liquor bottle under one of the bathroom sinks, and there were cobwebs here and there. Not a showstopper problem, though. We definitely recommend for other renters!

Southern Shores Adventures

We enjoyed every moment of our stay. From the moment we pulled into the driveway we felt ourselves relaxing. We all were so impressed with the house and the layout. The kitchen was so well appointed, top of the line everthing. We had a Great time. Short trip to the private beaches at Southern Shores or we drove to Hilton Head, and Friscoe Beach. We enjoyed the kayaks and the paddle boards and grilling out as well as fishing in the canal. We will certainly book again soon.

Meticulously maintained and completely comfortable for the entire family!

Nestled at a canal with a private sandy beach and amongst trees with a hammock, this vacation home was amazing! Our families from New York, Maryland and Virginia were very impressed with the grand kitchen, renovated and beautiful bathrooms, and comfortable bedrooms. The owners have an impeccable and eclectic taste in decor and had genuinely stocked the kitchen and linen closets. We as an extended family vacation together on Memorial day weekends yearly, but this was the best rental we stayed at so far! Close to everything in Kitty Hawk. Highly recommended!

Quiet & Relaxing Retreat, with everything you need!

We celebrated a 60th Birthday and a 20 year reunion of friendship/sisterhood in the Salt House, for an extended weekend. It was fabulous. The Kitchens have built a gorgeous home here. It is inviting, equipped with everything vacationers need and located in such a peaceful and charming area. Any time we needed any assistance, The Kitchens were quick to respond. Couldn't have asked for a lovelier home / spot to spend time with my family and friends. Thank you so much for making your home available for others to enjoy. We absolutely loved it!

A very cool place!

not knowing what to expect, well, our family was blown away at how the home was arranged to accommodate many quests yet it didn't feel crowded. there was plenty of seating the main living and dining areas however, we spent most of our time on the sandy beach along the water! fishing, kayaking, hanging out, playing games and more. the owner was responsive and even called to follow up with needs for our elderly family member. the beach was a short drive with lifeguard stand and there was a bathroom (porto Potty) which was great! definitely a good place! we'll be back. thank you!

Relaxing getaway for family!

The salt house was a fantastic place to stay for the week. Our party consisted of 4 adults, two young teens and two kids! The kitchen has everything you need, whether you want to bake, cook or steam seafood. There is a drip coffee machine as well as a Nespresso (original) machine! That was a huge plus to have Nespresso as an it would have been nice to have an air fryer, but that’s just nit picking because this house is awesome!!!During our stay, we saw a fawn and her mom, as well as a great blue heron catch breakfast!all while drinking our coffee on the backyard beach! A few lizards as well. We even saw a crab by the dock. We did not make time to fish unfortunately! Southern shores is a wonderful neighborhood and perfect for those who want easy and quiet time to spend with family or friends. As a note for guests who may not have experience in the southeast, you may see a bug or two during your stay on the property! There are fire ants in the sand, in case you have kids who may not be fans of bugs. It is to be expected down here!Also for parking, sadly my husband couldn’t make the trip, but I’m not sure his diesel GMC would have fit down the driveway, as my BIL also drove a truck down. 3 SUV/truck combo might make for Tetris parking! But overall amazing stay!! We truly appreciate the Kitchens opening their home to us!! I would come back again!

Fun beach house for big groups!

We stayed here with friends and extended family for a long weekend in OBX. Overall the house was great! Nice location close to lots of restaurants and great quiet little sound side location that was very convenient for launching the boat and kayaks. Loved that we could keep the boat tied up right to the dock at the house. The kitchen was well stocked with everything to cook. There’s a fun loft with twin beds and a TV with a Wii that looked so fun for a group of kids (we just had 1 child with us this time around). There were lots of thoughtful extras like beach parking passes, extra life jackets, bikes, etc. A couple of things that are not at all negative but just good to know for future visitors- there are lots of stairs so this may not be the best for older visitors (grandpa and grandma got pretty worn out by the end of our visit); the driveway is fairly narrow and steep so if you bring a boat you won’t be getting it down the driveway, we recommend dropping it at the marina before you even get in the house; and you need to bring or rent your own towels and bedsheets, as an FYI for those coming from farther out of town. Overall would recommend this house and location to anyone coming to OBX! We had a great stay!

The property is truly GORGEOUS. Perfect for memory making and family time. As a busy business owner, it is refreshing to stay at such a lovely location and have a taste of simplicity and outdoor life for a few days. The owners are pleasant. The house is well stocked and roomy. Nicely decorated as well. The ONLY thing that could possibly make it better is to have a linen service. Oh and the cleaning list was a little more expansive than other houses we have rented, however we always clean up well, so that was not a big deal. The fees were not too high for cleaning. The linens are just a bit of an inconvenience. That is only a suggestion though. I would gladly have paid a little more for linens to be provided. Either way, I am actually booking our next trip as I type this. We truly loved this house. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful home. We can't wait to come back!

Thank you very much Ashley..... we appreciate the kind words here. We really tried to keep it functional and efficient for how we enjoy using it. We are pretty simple ourselves and having spent a lot of time in OBX ..... we knew the vibe we were going for. The house is not perfect and is always a work in progress however it is set up to provide the optimal time for families, entertaining and fun. I'm sorry about the linens ...... with us being in Richmond, it just makes it difficult to offer and support each family as they may need. And the cleaning is a simple gesture of leaving the home in a similar condition as how you found it. We want to keep it in as good a condition as possible and hope that our guests appreciate the condition when they arrive. We hope that you will be back soon and happy 2021!

Perfect for our family vacation

Perfect for our family vacation. A good-sized house with just enough space. The house is well-equipped with everything you need. The kitchen was stocked with cookware and supplies, making it easy to prepare meals. The bedrooms were comfortable. Unfortunately, I missed the part about needing to bring our own bed sheets. For the most part, the house was clean and well-maintained, we did have several run-ins with cockroaches, but nothing terrible. One of the highlights that drew us to this beach house was the canal front. Kayaks and paddle boards were provided by the owner, and we had a lot of fun exploring the waterways. They had plenty of games to keep us occupied when we weren’t at the beach or paddling the canals. The location was perfect for us. A nice quiet community just off the main road as you enter the Outer Banks. This made getting in and out of the area very convenient. A short drive to the beach with dedicated parking. I really liked the fact that we never had to hunt for a parking space. The host was very responsive and accommodating. They were available to answer any questions we had during our stay. This beach house is perfect for families looking to relax and enjoy a stay at the Outer Banks. We had a great time and would consider staying here again. Highly recommend!

The Kitchens live in the Richmond Virginia area and grew up near OBX. Once we saw this location and home, we knew it was our time to make this vacation area a part of our daily lives. The renovations and outdoor layout serves as a great setup for entertaining, relaxing and enjoying. It is quiet and super convenient to get on and off the Outer Banks quickly. Pourquoi avoir choisi cet hébergement ?

It's not your typical beach home .....the design, layout and canal front location sold us immediately and we think our remodeling inside and out helped to make this the perfect destination for any relaxing vacation. We enjoy it as often as possible but not near enough.

Quiet side of the beach, location just across the bridge so NO fighting traffic, close to everything no matter what you are looking for, we created a backyard beach experience so that you always resort back to a sandy location, remodel of the kitchen and entire home to create a functional, warm and entertaining environment, close to everything you need for your stay!
