à propos de cet hébergement
Joe's Cottage - Modern, yet cosy, two bedroom cottage - Brigsteer
Joe's Cottage is a beautiful two-bedroom holiday home situated in the picture-postcard village of Brigsteer, 3 miles southwest of Kendal, in one of the most accessible parts of the Lake District National Park.
Spanning two floors, this traditional Lake District holiday cottage has recently been completely eco-consciously renovated, including installation of fast fibre-to-house broadband. Joes is furnished with quality furniture and is decorated in a contemporary style while maintaining many of the original features, including the original wooden beams throughout and the original fireplace in the kitchen inscribed with the date 1749.
The ground floor consists of a spacious living room with a wonderful AGA wood-burning fire, perfect for the chillier winter months, although the ground-source heating system will certainly keep the chill away. Opposite the living room is the large kitchen with integrated appliances that surround the central dining table for six.
If you don't fancy cooking, then why not stroll around to the Wheatsheaf Inn, where a warm welcome, good food, and a relaxing atmosphere awaits?
We know that laundry isn't on the top of the holiday list, but if you find the need, the downstairs WC/utility room includes a washing machine, tumble dryer, ironing board and iron.
Upstairs, you have two spacious en-suite bedrooms, both beautifully decorated and sure to provide for a wonderful night's sleep.
Outside, the cottage is equally as special. The lovely garden (originally the cobbled farmyard) attracts an abundance of insects and bird life. The patio space with glass balustrade makes the most of the lovely panoramic views of the Lyth Valley to the fells beyond and is a wonderful space to watch the often-spectacular sunset, the stars in the night sky - especially impressive as there is no streetlighting in Brigsteer (on a clear night, blankets provided), and to generally relax and unwind after a busy day exploring the Lake District - truly stunning!
Numerous fabulous walks are on your doorstep from the cottageâvarying length and challenge, and often with a delicious treat at the end!
You're probably wondering why the cottage is called Joe's Cottage... well, Joe was a much-loved local character, "a friend to everyone"; and the last inhabitant of the cottage. He farmed the small fields just above the village (now the Brigsteer Bee Reserve) by hand, using his scythe. There are fascinating photographs and information about this bygone era in the cottage for those who are interested. Joe died in 2009, and the cottage was then re-annexed to Boundary House - one of the oldest dwellings in Brigsteer.
